Arriving in disney june 4th at the wilderness lodge staying there a week. Anybody got any final opinions on how the resort is or anything to check out there, like the restaurants, food court, grounds, rooms, gift shop etc.. i heard its really nice any opinions or suggestions would greatly be welcomed.

Definately a dining experience you want to try: Whispering Canyon, be sure to ask for straws and ketchup. :)

You can get a great view of the whole back of the lodge from the 4th floor balcony.

I Arrrived On May 17th Had Asked For Fifth Floor And Above With Bunk Beds.the Room They Wanted To Give Me First Floor, Two Queens . The Request Was Made And Payed For In Jan. I Did Call A Few Times To Check On Requestalways Told Don,t Worry Its In The Computer. But Disney Has A Better Way To Give You A Room . Just Whay You Don,t Want . Last Year Same Thing At Cbr. Be Careful

Disney may note your request, but never guarantees you will get exactly the room you want.

WL -Things to do

You didn't say whether or not you have children so I included items to do with/without children.

1. Artist Point has wonderful (but pricey) food. The Berry Cobbler was one of the best I've ever had.
2. Whispering Canyon is good if you like loud, rowdy restaurants and have a big appetite.
3. Ask to be the flag family. If available, you get to hoist the flags above the resort. You see some great views of the resort and the MK.
4. Electric Water Pageant - usually around 9pm(ish) down by the beach.
5. Make sure to see the geyser.
6. Boat ride to MK. Both pleasant and relaxing.
7. If you have kids, make sure to do see when they have crafts and (rubber) duck races in the stream.
8. Take a walk on the trail to Ft. Wilderness Campground to visit the petting zoo and visit the campground.
9. Rent a watermouse (small boat with outboard engine)
10. Refillable mug
11. Sit by the fire and enjoy the ambiance
12. Wake up early, go out on the balcony and listen to the music piped throughout the resort.
13. Enjoy the pool area. Try the slide - its fun!
14. Look for hidden mickeys.
15. Rent a surrey bike and explore the trails.

As you can see, there is lots to do. I hope you enjoy my favorite Disney resort!

One more suggestion: Use an hour one evening and fill your refillable mug with coffee, hot tea or chocolate then go to one of the secluded sitting areas in the lobby on the levels above the front doors. One level at least has a small fireplace and the view looking down on the lobby is spectacular. Very relaxing thing to do. Sounds dumb, but I highly recommend it to anyone that hasn't done it.

Or take that filled mug and sit in one of the rockers in the lobby early in the morning...very peaceful!

It does sound relaxing sitting in the rocker in the lobby having a drink, ill have to do it. 5 more days and ill be there. it can't come soon enough:)

You've made a wonderful choice. It's our first choice when we return to WDW.
The wood, the stone, the overall effect is unparalled at Disney. Yes, there are bigger rooms with nicer views in the Monorail hotels. But there is no finer themed experience at Disney than the Wilderness Lodge (I know some people will site the Animal Kingdom Lodge, I prefer WL) ((architect is the same for both hotels).
We are early park people as well. But we do get up very early and hit Roaring Forks for breakfast and still make it to park opening.
Walking through the lobby early in the morning, late at night is truly a pleasure!
Coming off the bus dock and listening to the wonderful background music is also welcoming.
Artist Point restaurant is one of the finest on property. period. (and it is expensive, though not as bad as Victoria & Albert's, for instance)
Whispering Canyon restaurant is not about whispering. It is loud and the food is good and plentiful. Very kid friendly with games starting every little bit.
Roaring Forks is the fast foot place. Good selection. My youngest son thinks the chicken and fries are better there than anywhere else.
Trout Pass pool bar has snacks and drinks.
Territory Lounge also a nice spot to stop for a drink in the late afternoon or evening.
You're going to like this a lot!

:lol: order up a mixed drink when you get back from the parks in the evening and sit on your balcony and just enjoy the view (where ever it may be). they have one called a northwestern something or other that's really good. we love the WL. don't forget to hit the hot tubs. my dh was in LOVE with the hot tubs there.

In addition to all of the great advice, take the boat to Ft Wilderness and go to the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue (advance reservations required) or talke the buggy ride from the WL to Ft Wilderness and do some exploring.

Take some time to soak in the details, like the furnishings, lamps, etc at the WL. The theming is amazing. I know you'll love it, so enjoy :wave:

Its the only resort i have stayed at, me and gf stayed there last year, an amazing place, the lobby when you first arrive just takes your breath away.

Whispering Canyon is a scream too, and i agree, always ask for straws and Ketchup and and wear anything with the stars and stripes on :p oh and the foods pretty good too :slurp:

Didnt have too much trouble with the transport either, boat to MK and busses were all pretty good (especially to DTD when i feel asleep at the bus stop lol......too much ale maybe :lol: )

One thing nobody's mentioned is find the time for the electric water parade, (Don't remember the name at the moment). Each night the water parade travels to each of the resorts on the Lake. Depending on your room location you can watch it from your balcony and still hear the music from it too. Doesnt take very long, the kids love it and it's a nice way to put the day to rest.

Also, one thing I have yet to try, but was recommended by a CM last time I went while taking my dining reservations-go visit the WL Disney Vacation Resort part of the Lodge. I wish I'd made it over there last time, but didn't.

Finally, explore ALL of the resort. Not just the lobby. Walk around every floor if you get the chance. There are tons of artwork, native american inspired crafts, etc. adorning all the hallways. And pay close attention to the light fixtures. WL is all about the details. I too get up very early, but I explore the resort. Having WL all to yourself at 6:00 a.m. is wonderful and you can take your time.

a slight drift in topic:

we are going in december, is there anything special done at the resort for christmas? we've never been to disney during the holiday season and we don't want to miss anything.

My family stayed at the lodge over Christmas 2004. GORGEOUS decor and on Christmas morning, my brother and I had "gifts" outside of our door...those "wonderballs" the chocolate with the surprise inside. I can't rememeber if there was anything else, let me think. But the decor at Christmas itself just made the hotel so...whimsical. I'm tearing up thinking about it, I really wanna go back :cry:
