Wild west stunt show @ Magic Kingdom

Continuing the thread drift just a little bit more, the Diamond Horseshoe was an opening day show.

To answer the OP's question, I clearly remember the stunt show in Frontierland at Disneyland back in the 80s, but I've never seen anything similar since I started going to the Magic Kingdom in the 90s.

I've corrected my post to reflect that:) Just a bad memory.

I guess I should also hate to be a stickler as well, but all of the WDW pictorial guides and Birnbaum's guides through the 70s, 80s, and 90s all list Diamond Horseshoe Revue as being a part of Frontierland, not Liberty Square.

As of right now the official WDW website also lists it as being in Frontierland, so I'm not entirely sure when or if the Diamond Horseshoe was ever a part of Liberty Square.

Technically, the guidemaps list it there. But in theme and reality it is geographically and chronologically between the two. The theme of the previous show really pushed it toward Frontierland, in my opinion.

I worked in Liberty Square. During training they went over the story of the land and how the DH is indeed inside LS. Frontierland doesn't start until you cross the "Mini-Mississippi".

Geographically speaking, yes. If you examine the time periods and locations in history, it really doesn't belong. I'd consider it more of a bridge between the two lands.

All of this is irrelevant to the fact that the Diamond Horseshoe added something to the idea of Frontierland when it was still a live show.

Frontierland is not what it used to be.

Years ago, it was bustling with cowboys and Indians. The cast members all dressed in the time period. But the thing I remember most was the shops were filled with gifts from the time period. Old food and candy like the pioneers ate, statues of cowboys and Indians for sale, toy rifles that really looked like rifles, Racoon skin caps with real racoon tails on them.

Now, if it weren't for the building designs, you wouldn't even know you were in Frontierland.

The shops are a disgrace now. Who wants to buy a Mickey Mouse toaster in Frontierland? Or Jellybellys and flavored sugar powder from dispensers? Disney Pins in Frontierland...shame on them!

I bet Walt would not be happy if could see what has become of Frontierland.

Tomorrowland got it worse. Atleast the only tie in attraction in Frontierland is Splash Mountain, which is based on an obscure franchise and didn't replace anything.

But look at Tomorrowland. Time Keeper, Alien Encounter, all gone. What do we have instead? Disney characters. They shouldn't of even added Monsters Inc because 1. It doesn't fit the theme 2. There's already a Pixar related attraction there, Buzz Lightyear. SGE has been bashed, mocked, and hated so much it's surprising the attraction hasn't been removed yet. Maybe they should just make Tomorrowland apart of Fantasyland at this rate. As I said before, with Disney slapping characters onto once original rides and providing the same Micky merchandise, they're just trying to shove their characters down visitors' throat as much as possible.

Frontierland most definitely had a small wild west show - I have a photo to prove it that we took back in 1994. If I can find it, I'll post it. It wasn't anything super fancy, but it did exist. Just another small detail lost over time.

Please post whenever you find it!! I can't wait to see it. I don't think I have any video or photos from the show:shrug:

Yep. In the early 90`s there was a small show a few times a day on the sidewalks and (mainly) rooftops. It wasn`t very well documented.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad I'm remembering it right. I thought for sure it was in the 80's. If anyone has a pic please post it. I just remember walking by it and a shot out going on with people jumping around the the roofs.

Here's the (apparently only) photo that I have. Sorry for the poor quality, it's a scan of a photo. Notice also the Vacation Hoedown banner on the Country Bear Jamboree sign. :)

These are the things that used to make WDW so special! They need to return to things like this(and yes that includes the CBJ overlays!).
