Wild Africa Trek Discount

I signed up for this for my trip in two weeks. For four people to do the trek, with taxes it came to $592. Pretty steep, but we'll only do it once, so that's fine.

I want to do this in a major way... Didn't do it last October because we already had so much planned, won't do it in December for fear of it being too cold... will just have to wait. But it's on my list.

I'm sure the discount is because it is somewhat daunting for vacationers to go tropping through the woods in hottest months of the year in Florida. lol

I wouldn't worry too much about December. Average temps are still in the upper 60s. As someone who has done it, it is totally be worth having to wear a jacket for.

Actually, this isn't a surprise at all.

The market for this has been pretty soft. CMs can go for half price for the rest of the year ... and bring friends, which is why I am going to try it out this fall!

I was told about that from a "CM." I might look into doing it during my Oct trip (still yet to make resi's btw).

I really want to do this! It's at the top of my list for my next "adult trip", or when my son turns 8 - whichever happens first!

This was a really fun tour, but the price is definitely prohibitive. If you don't enjoy the animal exhibits at the Animal Kingdom, I would advise against taking this tour. If you're a fan of the exhibits, then take it. It should go without saying, but just in case.

The price of this has ever since it was announced baffled me - and I could not imagine that they would find consistently enough people willing to pay that much. Especially considering that a day at Discovery Cove (which also gets you admission to Sea World and Aquatica) is not so much more expensive. Seems like they have finally gotten to the point where they can't keep up the price, especially for those times when it is so hot and humid outside that one certainly would melt on that adventure.

I think for half price - as it is offered to CMs now - it sounds like something really interesting. Still don't like how the infrastructure of it infringes on the Safari ride, but I can live with that.

I would love to take this tour but not sure if I ever will. That bridge over the crocs seems a little intimidating. I would do it though because I would be more excited for the experience than afraid. The price would have to come down for me to be able to consider it. Half price for CMs and their friends is great.

I've always found the price of this tour outrageous, especially since they eliminated the zip line.

I took one of the first treks they ever offered and got a special introductory rate because I had an AP...even at that price (around $125) it seemed a little steep.

My wife and I did the tour last week at 1230 so we got the discount. I'm glad we did it, but I don't know if I will do it again. It was fun and the guides were great but I wish it lasted longer. As far as the bridge over the crocs, it's Disney, you can't possibly get hurt. You are strapped in and there is a net directly underneath the bridge. This is the third "behind the scenes tour" my wife and I have done. By far the best is the Backstage Magic tour. I recommend it to anyone. It's very pricey but it's seven hours long and includes lunch at Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge, one of my favorite places to eat.

Yeah - I took this the first month they offered it at the introductory rate like Nick. Even at that price, like he said, it was steep. It completely makes sense why they are having to offer discounts for this. It is basically paying MORE than the park ticket price just to get a different vantage point of the same animals - and a snack at the end of it. I think it was a smart idea - and certainly got a lot of people to go on it the first few months it was open...but for what they are charging - I think they will either have to get real and bring the price down significantly, or eventually reduce it to one tour a day like any other tours...

Searched and did not see this posted anywhere, New and rumors may not be best place for this but wanted people see it:

Save $50 on tours at or after 11:45 a.m. from 5/29/12 - 8/25/12

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/to...2WildLessAfricaTrekAnimalKingdom08-06-12@0001
Many African animals are accustomed to seek shade at the hottest time of day. They're not dumb AA's. They are not willing show props. The clever beasts are hiding deep down in some shade after 11:45 a.m. You won't see a great deal of them at that hour.

Also, I too think the price is far too steep. I wish WDW would just have incorporated a walking (unguided) tour as a standard feature of KS. Many of the world's, and DAK's, most charismatic animals are the large game from Africa. Yet one can only catch a quick glimpse of them while whizzing by on a large uncomfortable truck filled with forty people blocking your view to get a picture with their point-and-crap.

I get better animal viewing time in my local zoo.

Much as I love the ride, I would love to just stroll around a bit through and around the Safari grounds without having to pay $592. It's things like this where DAK misses that final bit of magic to me.

That's how we felt until 2010 when we left our room in the morning and it was 29 degrees with a high of 45 or so. We have some authentic character photos with them and us in winter gear including hats and gloves. I could see my breath at the Candlelight Processional and Illuminations. Unusual but possible.

Hmmm... I'm betting Disney's glad they didn't spring for the full-on Night Kingdom concept.
When that was being discussed it seems like they were already making cuts to it. Essentially asking the question how little can we offer for our premium offering.
