Why Universal is not actual competition to WDW, a theory...

Carlsand is right next door to Disneyland, the second most visited park in the world of theme parks. So no, no comparison.

Jimmy Thick- 16 million people to walk a few hundred feet...

What does Disneyland have to do with Cars being a single property (that's less popular than Potter, mind you) and will most likely fade out in a few years? Cars Land is popular, now, but that could significantly change years from now, and Disneyland can't help that. If people don't like it, they won't go.

So what you're saying is Cars as an IP doesn't have the staying power without riding Mickey's Magical Coattails?
I personally think that Cars Land, in and of itself, will continue to be an attendance driver for decades to come.

Not at all. Carland is spectacular and worth the price of admission by itself, that just so happens to be next to the second most visited theme park in the world which will always ensure continued success.

Universal does not have anything remotely as valuable, or viable to hang their hat on.

Jimmy Thick- Butterbeer in stores?

When JK farts, it international news. Lucas? Not so much.
Well now that he has removed himself from one of the biggest franchises on the planet yeah. The other being Indiana Jones is kind of dead in the water IMHO. Unless they take the Bond route and recast Indy but I do not know how well received that would be.

I know right! That why Harry's Wand Shop has a line wrapped around the building. When Harry comes out to fling a $120 wand at the stupid people they go nuts.

Well, the Potter area is kinda small, once you hit Forbidden Journey and the value engineered coaster, your only other real option is to wait in line at the wand shop.

Jimmy Thick- " Ah...Ah...AH COO!!!" "Bless you honey" " Hey, were is the Potter area" "Oh, we just walked through it when you sneezed..."

Its not Harry though, that's where the "charm" is.

Jimmy Thick- Rawlings name does not equal success.

Spoken as someone who isn't a fan of the series. Most fans of the Potter stories are there for Hogwarts and the Wizarding World at large. Not Harry.

Just spent a few days at Uni last week. It's hard to go through this thread and follow the arguments being posted, but I think I get the gist. I'll offer the following observation:

On Monday and Tuesday of last week, my family was at Uni and my parents were at WDW (they hit MK, Epcot, and DHS). They reported significant, although certainly not unbearable, crowds from park opening to park closing at whatever park they were at. Lines at both Uni parks were minimal, to the point that Tuesday evening, we entered Wizarding World at 7:00, at at Three Broomsticks with no wait, walked onto Dragon Challenge, Forbidden Journey, and Flight of the Hippogriff, and could have walked into Ollivander's with no wait. This was a holiday week and we were in the most popular section of the park. Earlier that evening, we had walked onto Hulk, Spiderman, Dr. Doom. and Cat in the Hat. Crowds during the day were more than walk-on, but waits were minimal except for Minions and Forbidden Journey (Even Transformers had a short line most of the time).

So, based on my anecdotal evidence, it appears to me that Disney is likely winning the battle for quantity of guests. And this, after years and years of Uni outpacing WDW in attraction development.

Glad you bring up LOTR. Because those stories clearly failed and left people's memory after there were no more books.

Oh wait...

Jimmy Thick - Dumber than ever...?

LoTR only gained modern momentum with the films that were recently made, if they never were made I seriously doubt anyone under the age of 25 knew they existed. LoTR would be a fantastic "stop the bleeding" pick up but it too, would have a limited lifespan, much like Potter.

Jimmy Thick- Truth hurts, unfortunately.
