Why This Resort?

So you make your decision what resort to stay at.But what is your number one reason for picking that particular resort. Is it the price? Or the location ? I've often wondered what is the main reason when deciding where to stay.

Price factors in some...I mean, if it didn't I'd be staying in nothing less than a MK facing tower room at the CR or MK view room at the GF.:D That being said- room size (nothing too cramped), bed size (double beds are a deal breaker), location (being close to a park helps w/transportation time), and having nice surroundings (we are not it's just a place to sleep people) - all are huge factors in deciding.

It's not about where we want to stay but where Disney will allow us to stay on a limited budget. We are a party of 5 making it impossible to stay at Value's and all Mods except POR (CS Suite is not an option $$$). So we stay at POR because it is the most affordable for a family of 5. So until we feel like stepping up to the extra $$$ for AoA it will be POR. This year we considered AoA but decided that a longer stay at POR was a better option.

"Value". I put that is quote because each person defines value differently. For us, it's a consideration of multiple factors that, when combined, lead us to make a judgment call on what presents the best "value" to us. Usually it involves starting with the least expensive option and then asking ourselves if we want to pay the incremental cost to upgrade, thinking along the lines of "For X dollars more we get Y. It is worth it?"

For this trip it's LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!!! It's our first time traveling with a 7 month old (olders DS's are 13 & 9). My husband insisted on staying on the monorail, so The Poly it is! We have previously stayed at both The Contemporary & The Grand Floridian. Which leads me to another reason for chosing The Poly, we have always stayed at a different resort each trip. Thus far we have stayed at: GF, AKL, WL, BC, CR & BC...AKL being my personal fav!!!!

convenience is primary, price is secondary.

being on the monorail line is the biggest issue for me, since its just so much easier to get around. price definitely matters, but fortunately it's still just the two of us so we can easily get by with a single room or studio and there's more disposable income to cover the premium of a monorail resort.

that and we both just love the atmosphere of the contemporary and polynesian.

The first time we went it was about location and atmosphere (Poly). This time, it's about the critters and it was my son's preferred choice for his graduation celebration - Animal Kingdom. In 2014 it will likely be price and location as there will be more of us going.

Price is the main factor. If I can afford the deluxe or moderate we stay there if not value. When we stayed at Wilderness Lodge we stayed there because I thought it would be homey and cozy for our winter vacation in February. Then in 2011 we drove to WDW so we stayed at POR to keep our Southern theme to our trip.

I've only stayed onsite 1 time and we stayed at the cabins. We were a party of 6 including my MIL (5 to Disney since 1 was an infant), but we really needed the extra sleeping space, the room for the kids and the kitchen.

When I price out future trips, I really want to stay somewhere closer to transportation. I absolutely loved the cabins, but it was very difficult having to catch a bus, then a ferry, then a monorail or another bus to get to our location.

What I look for is, of course price, number 1. I have to be able to afford it. But I also look at living space, bedsize for sure, how close it is to the park we'll be spending most time at and so on : ) I always read TONS of reviews.

As said about, location. Now my family won't stay anywhere other than a monorail resort and my dear wife and dear son don't care for the Polynesian so basically it's either The Grand Floridian, my wife's favorite or the Contemporay my son's favorite. I have trying for years to get them to try the Yacht Club but I always hear the same thing "It's not on the monorail."

Primary:
- Atmosphere
- Location

Secondary:
- Price

These lead me to Boardwalk. IMO, you can't really beat their atmosphere. In the afternoon you see kids playing in that small park, people chillaxing, a few entertainments outside and a great lake view. It's hard to beat that.

Plus a funnel cake station located outside :)

Please don't take this the wrong way. I agree with 01 and 02 but am unsure how 03 applies to the Boardwalk.

We love the Boardwalk, it's our Home Resort (DVC). However, at over $400/night for many nights, it's hard to understand how price is an important factor when selecting most Deluxe Resorts. We've stayed offsite in nice 3-bedroom town homes for an entire week for less than the price of one night at most WDW Deluxe Resorts. I know, it's offsite. But it's also one-seventh the price for four times the space.

Ah sorry, the way I structure those points makes no sense. I did not mean to sound that way. I probably should have said the atmosphere and the location are primary while the price is secondary.

Everytime we choose it usually comes down to atmosphere, then location, and food options. Now poly is one of our favorites it has just about everything we want, as does BC and BW for the fact the food options are plentiful being so close to epcot. AKL location is one downfall for us but still great to stay at for the atmosphere and food. Price wise, it is obvious that the location and food options will change as you move down the scale from deluxe to value. Do not get me wrong though, we love just about all the resorts at wdw.

Price is the main thing for us! I haven't stayed at any deluxe resorts yet because they are way too much for our budget, but either the WL or AKL will be my first stay in a deluxe in the future since they are not outrageously priced like Poly, GF or the others. I think for what you get at the moderates, you cannot beat it and the price is GREAT!!! For me, it was love at first sight with POFQ when I stayed there in 2008, and that is now my first choice resort whenever I go back. Next week I will be "home" again!!! I just love the atmosphere, size, grounds, boats to DTD and the location is great, bus rides were not long at all, with the exception of AK of course! :D

For most people, money is a factor. For some, it isn't.

Assuming the money didn't matter, the thing that would matter most to me (for a wdw hotel) would be location. Then...services (bellmen, valet, room service), the looks of the place as I drive up and when I enter...and the room. Do I like it? Is it relaxing?

Generally, though, you can get much better service and more room for your money in non-Disney hotels. if you want the best and can deal with a 3-20 minute ride to the parks, non-Disney hotels are where you'll be staying.

In WDW...assuming the money doesn't matter...my favorites, in order:

AKL
GF
Poly
Beach club

We like the convenience of the monorail resorts, but money unfortunately is a factor.:( The deluxe resorts are best because they offer so much more than the values and moderates. I agree w/ most posters. It is the location, and the fact that I have a choice of transportation besides the bus!;)
