Why the dislike for American Idol in HS?

Okay if you want a literal comparison I never liked watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire on the box yet I enjoyed the attraction, but I think you already knew what point I was making.

Idol is something to see at least once. With WWTBAM everyone is playing and may have the opportunity to end up in the hot seat. With Idol, you just sit and watch. You actually need to have some talent to make it on stage...not so with Millionaire.

The actual show itself is very good, we don't go out of our way to do it, but when we see it we enjoy it. The show itself is good, it's just the fact that it was added years after the TV show's popularity started to fade, it takes a lot of time out of the guests day who actually audition and sing, and it was one of the last additions to DHS in a park that needs more to do are just a few reasons why people don't like it.

I am one of the half dozen or so people in the U.S. who has never watched the tv show...it holds zero interest for me. We did it at the request of DD and DW last trip and I was as underwhelmed as I thought I would be and they agreed it was a once and done for them as well. I am glad I did it but really never have to do it again...kind of the same way I feel about SGE.

I'm just not interested, and frankly I don't think I'm wrong for not being interested. I don't like the tv show, so why would I be interested in the H'S show when I have other things I would rather do?

The experience is o.k., but there's a few things I really don't like about it.

The judges are VERY cliche' in their opinions and try a lot of one-liners (jokes) that don't work.

They desperately try to get everyone up and dancing around, clapping, singing, etc. before the show starts, but no...I'm usually hot, tired and like this perfectly comfortable seat in the A/C. I'll clap for good singers and cheer, but that's about it.

There's very silly "look this former American Idol winner is talking to YOU about your performance, isn't that great?". No it's a pre-recorded thing done years ago.

"Look, all of these people and this cute kid are rooting for you". No, they're not, they recorded it before the show having never met you or seen your face or heard your voice.

We enjoy it. One trip we even went a second time to see the finals. Maybe we like it cause we don't watch the show. In fact, I've only seen it once or twice (back when it was Chris Daugherty and that guy with the gray hair... whatever happened to him anyway?)

Because
1. American Idol hasn't been relevant for years.

2. It's karaoke.

I think Idol gives most people a bitter taste in their mouth because it replaced Superstar Television, which overall was the better attraction.

I only remember bits and pieces, but after seeing the full show on Vimeo, I would agree on bringing Superstar Television back to the Studios.

^This about sums it up. The attraction isn't awful, it was just added to the park too late in it's run, there are better things to do, and there are better things it can be replaced with. I just feel bad for the people who Fastpass it.

This explains how I made it into the Hot Seat once....

So did I, but for knowing what the currency of Guam was.
(Dollars--It's a US territory.)
They got me on a $100 sports question, though, and all I got were the pins and cap.

And like everyone says, Idol is a performance show, while Millionaire is a game show, and nobody "plays at home" with Idol...At least, I hope not. With Millionaire, audience participation HAD to be built in.
Basically, the "dislike" comes from the Idol attraction being "the Avatar Land of its day", since Idol TV was already feeling some age long before The Voice started taking over, and the perception was that this was another third-party licensee Disney had been sold by some other ambitious licensor, believing it would be popular forever, rather than something the Imagineers had pioneered themselves.
While it was a good attraction for what it was, I remember a few people did make the Goosebumps jokes at the time.

(And besides, they never had a special Star Wars Weekend show like Millionaire did.)

we don't have the show in the UK (for obvious reasons) so the attraction has never interested me, I'm sure this is what puts off many non-american guests. I also don't really understand how it ties into the theme of HS as i thought HS was supposed to focus on the 'magic of movies'. It takes up a fair bit of space which I just think could be used for something that is unique to Disney

While movies are the big focus, even back at the beginning there was attention paid to the television side of Hollywood entertainment- the house facades on the Backlot Tour, the Prime Time 50s Cafe, and the busts between what is now AIE and the Sound Studio building.

Because like the TV show the audience has grown disinterested over the last few years, it is just coasting on it's name, and it is wasting space that could be used for something new and original.

If you could actually see the work that the cast members do backstage for each production, you wouldn't be using the word coasting.
