Why the Age Limit

So your kids never knew about Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, etc. That's sad.

That's excatly right. I'm hoping they will not suffer any long time ill effects! It's just important to my husband and I that they trust us completely, and - so far - it's working.

wdwishes2005 - I wasn't trying to be self righteous by saying that I don't lie (sorry if I came across that way). I was responding to all those that said "everyone lies". If others choose differently - I'm ok with that. :)

Back to the topic at hand - I am really curious as to if anyone can confirm the actual reason for the age limit on this, as well as other tours. Particularly since there has been a recent change in the requirement.

hmm

IS there a work related reason? I live in ny so i dont know about floridas and I am not sure what this tour consists of but does the tour go around any machinery or anything like that.

Could it be a new state law?

Ok. It's difficult to tell when something is printed. People that come into a thread and say things like I would never do something like that just bug me. I apologize then, like I said it is hard to tell when things are typed out.

So if there is a murderer at your door and he asks if your friend, who he is looking to kill, is inside, do you tell the murder that your friend is inside? Unless your last name is Kant, I'm betting you say, "no, he's not inside."

There are some lies that are okay, even morally correct. Some are immoral.

This is neither. Go on the tour, enjoy it.

You can teach trust, honesty, etc, without depriving your children of essential aspects of childhood. Depriving them of Santa because of your selfish desire for them to trust you more, you are the immoral one, not the liar.

OK, unless someone can tell us WHY the age was changed, this thread will be locked.

We all have a diffent perception of whether or not an untruth, or even an outright lie, may or may not be "moral."

As in so many other choices, one size does not fit all, and each person has to live with his or her decision.

So, again, unless you have official information to add as to why 16 is the age limit, the conversation is closed.

If a parent books their child for a tour, when one of the requirements is that everyone on the tour is that everyone be over the age of 16, then that parent is being dishonest. No amount of justification, or avoidance will change the fact that they are being dishonest, and setting a poor example...

Very well stated....for whatever reason they set the age limit, it is what it is.

You and your mother should do the 'right thing' and just wait a year.

Personally I think the reason the age limit has been moved higher for some of the tours is that anyone younger is going to find it boring. 10 years old, come look at the Disney Florists and here is a big warehouse and don't forget the big square metal building where all the rubbish goes, yay! ...

I did Backstage Magic a few years ago and I really enjoyed it, but at 10 - 14 years old I think I would have been really bored, especially since you are walking past excellent attractions which you can't go on because you are going to look at some admin offices!

Now Keys to the Kingdom is a little different, its more on stage within the Magic Kingdom, you get to go on some of the rides, see a little backstage, it is a little more fun rather than informational. But still, first thing in the morning, nice sunny day at the Magic Kingdom, you are 12 years old.... quick, over to Space Mountain! ..... ermm no, stand here and listen to someone tell you that the windows are smaller on the first floor of main street.

I am 29 now, I really enjoy the tours I highly recommend them (including un-Discovered Future World Tour and the Around the World Segway tour) but there are better things to do at DisneyWorld when you are younger.

In that case, I would think the verbiage would be "suggested age limit". The fact there is a "limit" implies something else.

Come on...out of all of these fabulously informed people, nobody knows ANYONE on staff who can answer this definitively?

Yes and No... I see your point, and there may be other reasons but some parents just don't make that decision logically, often it is just easier to bring along a younger child with the rest of the family rather than make alternate arrangements without considering if the child will enjoy the experience. So you could have a 10 year old complaining, being bored etc. which then directly effects the quality of the tour for everyone else. By having a set limit you don't have that problem.
