Connor, i thought you'd be all for KH in the parks, well, judging by your avatar...

Carpe per diem - seize the check.

That's what's really important in the business world.
Besides, I rather like KH as it is, yet to be over-comercialized.

I hate to pick on ya, my big blue buddy, but that's a horsesh!t response.

If you were to apply that logic to every discussion and every idea, there'd be no progress.

No. He commented on "do they know how much money they are giving up". Yes, they know exactly how much they are giving up. Thus, they aren't selling the KH stuff here.

In addition, you're "the only thing video games sell is video games" is pretty baseless too. It's about as fair "the only thing cartoons sell is popcorn and soda pop."

Really? Ok then, what do video games sell? Besides the hardware that they are played on. Not a thing. The movies do awful. There are some exceptions to the movies, but other than that, they don't sell anything.
You are much better off taking a movie franchise and turning it into a video game. Video game toys, as a whole, sell badly. If you are going to call a statement baseless, give a couple examples to back up your wildly inaccurate statement.

And, the nail in the coffin to anything more Kingdom Hearts related is that the Final Fantasy movie did awful in North America. It had decent draws in Japan, but here it wasn't good. You have the occasional appearance of the characters. Thats more than a lot of other, much more worthy, Disney properties get.

Well I think the plausibility of KH dolls has been put to rest, however, FF gets decent but growing draws in the US and does great in Japan and gets high ratings in both nations.

The games have always been highly rated. Thats fine. However, the movie did awful. No, it did worse than awful. Didn't even make the money back that it cost to produce. (in North America)

That just furthers my point. The game can be highly rated by everyone by it doesn't sell anything except for the game. And Kingdom Hearts was by no means a blockbuster in ratings.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the game itself. But you're right, while i thought the movie was good, it did do disgracefully in the box office.

Kingdom hearts got an 8.2-great from gamespot, a site which to date has never given a rating above 9.7. I'd say thats pretty good:veryconfu

Simple question: You are the decision maker at TWDC. You have to choose between two rides. It has been narrowed down to two, which are both targeted to the same audience, boys ages 8-16. You want to target them and their families with an attraction they can all enjoy.

Which would you build?
Kingdom Hearts
or
Tarzan

'nuff said.

Plus, you can sit here all day and come up with more popular Disney properties than Kingdom Hearts that are more deserving of increased merchandising and promotion in the parks than KH.

How many scores of over 8.2 have they given? I'd say conservatively, thousands.

No, I completely agree with you at this point that KH merchandising wouldnt be such a great commitment. However, for the boys 8-11 i would choose Tarzan, for the boys 12-16 i would choose Kingdom Hearts. 8-16 in developmental terms is a very wide audience.

As for giving out 8.2 to thousands of video games... um, no lol. the games are all reviewed by one guy who is considered as having the stereotypical "gaming tastes" and he evaluates them on certain aspects. He does alot of games but not nearly in the 1000's per year

Gamespot is run by a lot more than a single guy. Don't make blantantly false statements. I am a gamestop complete member. Hell, part of my business is setting up LAN game centers. I know what games are popular, I also know the industry inside and out. I've gone to E3 the last four years, and I'm going to BlizzCon this weekend.

Just to prove my point:
http://www.gamespot.com/reviews.htm...&mode=all&sort=score&dlx_type=all&sortdir=asc
Theres no less than 4 pages of just PS2 games with scores of 8.2 or higher. 50 per page, so thats 200 just PS2 games.

Heres PC games, 9 pages of 8.2 or higher: (450 more games)
http://www.gamespot.com/reviews.htm...ll&sort=score&dlx_type=all&sortdir=asc&page=1

Xbox, 3 pages (150):
http://www.gamespot.com/reviews.htm...ll&sort=score&dlx_type=all&sortdir=asc&page=1

GameCube, 1 page (50):
http://www.gamespot.com/reviews.htm...&mode=all&sort=score&dlx_type=all&sortdir=asc

I think thats enough to prove my point.

I didn't say it was run by one person i said the games were reviewed by one person. Not to mention those games i guarantee came out over a span of years. and 200 is hardly "1000 in a conservative estimate"

edit- somehow missed the other 3 links. but although that does add up to quite a bit those game undoubtedly came out over the span of years. and "great" is not a mediocre score "fair" is a mediocre score on that site.

Thats not the point. I said that 8.2 isn't a blockbuster. You argued that. I clearly proved that isn't. It doesn't matter when the games come out. Especially when the PS2 has only been out for roughly 5 years and there are no less than 200 higher rated games than KH. It simply isn't a blockbuster game. As I said previously in this game, it has no innovation.

Right there. You didn't say the word blockbuster, but you used the rating to imply that my saying it wasn't a blockbuster was wrong.

Also, your 9.7 comment isn't correct, as my first link shows.

how can you make such sweeping statements? Unless the exact story line was used in a different game, then of course there was at least some innovation. As for most people having no idea what it is, i'd say that probably have no idea what the story line is but they do know what it is.
