Why isn't there a connection between the Contemporary and WL?

Yeah, I know...there's a boat..........But look..........use the tunnel or explore something going across that small island (which I have no idea if it even has a name......but....it could be built out and named - think a restaurant or shopping - wouldn't be more than a half mile walk - maybe 8 minutes). A bridge type walkway would need to be as high as the monorail track - there's a lot you could do with that.

I'd like to walk from WL to Contemp (or vice versa) and be able to explore........and spend more money (in case anybody from Disney is reading...)

If you told me I could walk about 20 minutes from my room at WL to the MK gate....sold.

It is a longer walk than you think. We walked from the Contemporary to MK once because they said it was a nice walk and not that far... well it sure felt like a long walk which is probably why we only did it once an didn't see any other people when we did it. I think it is about a half mile walk from Contemporary to Main Gate at MK... From WL to Contemporary as the crow flies its about 2000 feet so you would basically be walking a mile to go from WL to MK... Most people probably don't want to walk a mile when they know they'll be walking all over the place once inside the park. So I really don't see them making any walk way for what would likely be a very low number of guests.

As for the island, assuming they could make a quick and cheap bridge to the island and then over to the Contemporary... that would really just be asking for lawsuits when people got eaten by alligators since that island is uninhabited and people would likely go exploring as you mention which is great if you are prepared but most people are not prepared for exploring in wetlands inhabited by the likes of alligators and water moccasins. So that would only leave the option of turning it into a restaurant and shops... That's doable but it would be very expensive because the island is just that an island. But restaurants and shops would require water and sewer services that would cost a lot to connect to since it is an island. So yes they could do it but the cost would likely be so high that the question would be why? They have Disney Springs for the shopping, so they have no need to create a new shopping area... They could make a restaurant but if that was all they created on the island it would mean that the island would have to charge insanely high prices to cover the cost of creating the place.

In short I just don't see them having any reason to do what your hoping for.

I'm sure there are other people who think as you do. I'm also sure there's not nearly enough of you requesting walkway access between CR and WL to make the $$$ necessary to create that presumably free walkway any kind of priority.

Funny, the main reason we stay at the CR is so we can walk to and from the MK. To each his own.

I like to walk. A mile, 2, or 3 isn't a big deal as long as there are diversions along the way.

My dream scenario would be 3 walking paths - GFR to MK - CR to WL and a third connecting TTC to WL. You would be able to walk to/from anywhere on the MK resort loop and could even walk from the Poly to Pioneer Hall. In theory you'd even be able to walk to the MK from the TTC. (Which is a path I would use every day if I were there at park close)

Alternate forms of transportation could be offered. In many European cities (and some U.S.) you can basically rent bikes by the minute. Find them at one location - ride them to another - turn them back in. Taking a golf cart from Pioneer Hall to the Grand Floridian would also be fun.

I'm all for opening up the "world" a bit.

I like a walk also, but I do so much walking just getting around the parks, I am not particularly interested in walking a mile from my resort to a park. I would walk from the Swan and Dolphin to Epcot, but I wouldn't walk to DHS.

Made that trek many a time. I've also walked from DHS to EPCOT. I think it's more about having options. When I do the DHS to EPCOT walk I usually stop at Boardwalk for a quick drink or bite.

I will say that one of the worst walks I ever made was from OKW to DS.

And I get that. But having the option to is what I'm after. A person walks at a little over 3mph. Meaning a mile is about 15-20 min.

If I'm at a resort with the option to walk that mile - and I get to the bus stop and see the next bus isn't arriving for another 15 minutes and the crowd is such that I question whether I'll even make it on to that first bus. - I'd walk.

And that was the reason we stayed there the first time, because we had been told about that nice walk to MK... But as I said it was a lot longer than expected. I supposed it just depends on how much walking you want to do. Given our family probably averages more than 10 miles a day when we are at Disney World adding an addition half mile just to get there just seems silly.

Not sure I understand the reasoning behind that... if the time taken is about the same between walking and using a bus why would you walk when you're going to spend most of your time in the park walking? Aren't you a bit tired of the walking by the end of a long day at the park? I don't think I've ever been a full day at Disney where I wasn't tired of walking by the end the day, sure if we are only at a park for a half day then it doesn't matter much but a full day at the parks usually requires a very high number of walking miles... I would think anytime you can trade some of those miles in for an air conditioned bus ride for no loss in time would be a no brainer.

I'm not committed to walking everywhere. And yes at the end of the day I'd probably like to use transport. Unless it closing at the MK and boat and monorail lines are just insanity. If I had the option to walk I probably would. I don't think I've ever taken transport back from EPCOT when staying at an EPCOT resort. I think at the end of the day its all about pace. I don't speedwalk through the parks, and I plan my FP based on my course of visit. I don't zig-zag back and forth across a park to meet a FP time.

We all have our dreams. Mine is probably more like having the People Mover connect each ride exit to the next ride I want to ride - we can all dream.

All those bricks with names on them at MK entrance? Those were planned as a Walk Around The World connecting all three Seven Seas resorts. Never sold enough bricks. Don’t think Wilderness Lodge was part of that plan though.

I too find it dumb the resort area around MK is not walk-able. Alas that's what happens when the company values money more than convenience.

Part of what they value is safety. If they created walking paths along roadways, no matter what signage or protective railings they put up, guests will do stupid and dangerous things resulting in injuries.

Who cares though? Let the stupid people injure themselves. It shouldn't be Disney's (or anyone's) responsibility to protect the world's population of idiots.

Until the news media and social media splash the incident all over the place of visitor "Injured at Disney World" or worse. It doesn't have to actually be Disney's fault, in today's media and social media culture the dramatic headline is all that counts to most and the guest behaviour will never be blamed, Disney will be. Which means there is absolutely no upside for Disney at all to putting these pedestrian routes in place; it's nothing but downside for them.

So there has never been, and probably never will be, a "Walk Around The World" for which they advertised and sold pavers?
