Why hasn't there been any new castle stage show?

The show is still playing because this IS WDW and they can get away with using the same stale entertainment year after year after decade.

This isn't say TDL where they have multiple new shows every year because REALLY why would anyone want to see anything new? If you like chocolate ice cream and plain pizza, why ever try anything new?

It is the same reason the MK (the supposed #1 theme park in the world) hasn't seen a major new attraction that was an addition since 1992 ... and why the relic that is the MSEP coughs and wheezes its way around the park.

But, hey, if you get bored, MK is now one giant video game/card collector's paradise.

Correct. No matter what any of us think about any given entertainment offerings, management is actually able to pretty accurately gauge how they are doing.... And it can actually be even more important as a show or offering gets older, because it does run the risk of getting stale, or not pulling guests in the way it is intended.

I would STRONGLY disagree.

Management is capable of only gauging how the bottom line looks. Period.

The show pulls people in because it is the ONLY stage show in the MK now. One venue in Tomorrowland was demolished so execs can park their Yukons closer to the office. Another in Frontierland sits empty except when they are either offering free dining plans or holiday periods and then it opens as a QSR.
Another in Toontown was turned into a character meet-and-greet years ago and demo'd recently.

When all you give folks is one choice, most will stand and watch. That doesn't mean they like it ... or, more importantly, would like something else more. Just that they have about as much choice as a fanboi at an Imagineering party!

Nobody has any insider info an I mean really insider info why mk hasn't received anything new?

Yes. It's very simple.

They (TDO) sees no need to swap out entertainment when they can run the same show for years.

Beauty and the Beast at TPFKaTD-MGMS would be another example. That show was never supposed to be permanent. There were plans as far back as the late 90s to replace it ... BUT Disney management felt there was no need for a fresher product.

MK recently had a new pyro show killed because management didn't see any reason to replace the syrupy and tired Wishes.

WDW is run very differently from every other Disney resort around the globe.

Well, that's kind of the point. The majority of guests are typically thrilled with whatever is offered entertainment-wise, because they spent thousands of dollars to be there - and it is Disney, so it must be wonderful. This is probably a big reason why many entertainment options HAVE been shuttered...it takes away the ability to compare and decide one was better than the other. As with television networks (lookin' at you, ABC) can spin their ratings numbers, so can WDW management. And they do.

I'm not so sure. If the only store in town is Walmart because they've put everyone else out of business, then you have no choice but to shop there ... but it doesn't mean you like it. ... And Disney is finally having some real competition in O-Town with both UNI and SW stepping up their games/offerings.

You also have more returning guests by the day there and folks (some, not all certainly) might be getting mighty bored with WDW's product.

Why do you think they're turning MK into a giant video game?

This is probably a big reason why many entertainment options HAVE been shuttered...it takes away the ability to compare and decide one was better than the other.

That much is likely true. The number of live shows at any given time at say TDL vs. MK would shock most WDW-centric visitors.

As with television networks (lookin' at you, ABC) can spin their ratings numbers, so can WDW management. And they do.

I'll give ABC some props for some great new offerings in Once Upon a Time and Revenge and funniest 23 minutes of my week with Modern Family.

As you said before, management is not concerned with whether anyone gets emotional or weepy everytime they see a show - just that people are watching the show. If guests are stopping to watch - it is serving its purpose. I am not defending it - I am just saying that this is why we keep the same shows year after year. Once the "one trip every couple years" guests stop watching the show because they have "been there, done that, and don't need to see it again" - that's when we see changes (no matter how minor) happening. Again, I don't necessarily agree with it - but Disney doesn't care what I think as long as their system is working.

I agree ... and it's why a truly intelligent leader (which I believe Tom Staggs is) should be replacing all the management that tries to defend such -end backwards thinking as you state above.

But what they miss out of are those people who just aren't at the MK to watch the show in the first place. Those who used to come every two years and then decide that maybe they don't have to go back so soon because there is nothing new to see.

^^ THIS. Cause Queen Meg and TDO don't wanna spend ANY money for anything new cause they know people going to MK have never been.

I think Spirit is meaning that Summer Nightastic was a recycled show from the defunct Pirate and Princess Party. It was not a "new" show when it played a couple of summers ago. MK had a whole new fireworks show planned that was axed in favor of keeping Wishes.

All Hail Her Imperial Majesty Queen Megara! She is MOST wise and inspired!:hurl:

At least they didn't keep Cinderellabration *shudders*
I think this would be neat during the summer as they did at TDL have these little character show segments throughout the day called Cool the Heat.
