I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that even getting a statue of him (Partners) originally caused a lot of debate and "issue". Those wax figures are horrible....

It has been said that Walt strongly opposed such a thing, and in fact specifically stated he did not want any kind of 'memorial' or statue done of him.
He found it all rather distasteful in his opinion. Felt it created a distance between the public and himself.

I cannot recall the article i was reading about the topic...but he definitely made it clear to the people he was working with at the Studio at the time that he wanted none of that....AAs included.

Which brings to light a interesting thought - that 'Partners' statue.
Was creating this, with the intention of placing it in front of the Castle at the Parks, going against Walt's personal wishes?
Some view it as a wonderful tribute to the man, but when you are aware of that man's own personal feelings on the matter, it brings to light a alternative view.

I like the 'Partners' statue quite a bit...but i don't think Walt would have been very keen on the idea of having it actually in the Parks.

Theres also the bust of Walt that can be viewed at DHS. Thats captured his likeness quite well. I see a lot of guests getting photo shots of themselves with Walt.

It's the only one that's eye level at the resort. The one in Legends Plaza you can walk right up to..

I have been wondering this and after watching a History Chanel DVD about WDW, my wife and I were wondering why there has been no AA built of Walt. Is there a curse if they try? Or is it more they have to have the family's permission?

He didn't want it - and the family has been advocates of that since. Even the statues have been highly debated and edgy

I agree the wax ones are hideous replicas. I asked mainly because of the statue, which I have never been fond of. I think that with TDO today, it is something of a miracle that it has not been done. I also think that it could be very tastefully done by the right people. But with the chance of it becoming a mostrosity, I'd rather never see it happen.

Yes, and seeing as how the Disney Company has done absolutely nothing that would tarnish Walt's memory it is almost unthinkable.

You know, though, it seems funny that a man that made a legend out of duplicating the faces and mannerisms of famous people would think that it would be a belittling thing to do. Does that mean that he was trying to minimize Lincoln?

Partners was used as a trump card to prevent the hub from continuing to be used as a place to put up promotional junk.

I see nothing wrong with making an attraction that is a tribute to Walt Disney and all he has acheived.
It could be a boat ride, like Living With the Land, and Walt himself, could do the narration. Imagine sitting on a boat, looking up at Walt himself, not just any AA of Walt but the best. most realistic AA ever done of anything or anyone. And as we listen to him speak, the boat goes down a river and each scene displays a time period in Walts life. From His birth in Chicago, to his childhood days in Missouri, to his stint in the Army. Scene after scene of the trials and tribulations of his life and sadly, ending...but not with his death, but with his dreams still up for grabs for the future of his company and the pubic to decide.
It would be like the film in One Mans Dream, only the whole thing would be in real time3D, with Walt, himself explaining everything going on around us.
I think it's very doable, and as a big fan of One Man's Dream, it would be something spectacular to see.

Honestly...the Walt Disney Family Museum does that far better than any ride could.

Mind you, I'm not saying it couldn't be done...but...I'm not sure it should be done.

None of those people ever said they didn't want to be memorialized in a public venue, or specifically in a theme park. Walt and company were truly honoring all the presidents and celebrities in their attractions, and at the same time he wished to lurk in the shadows and remain humble.

It wasn't about him....to him. It was about the incredible things he could accomplish by surrounding himself with the world's greatest artists, engineers and creators. It was about doing the impossible...about being one step ahead of everyone else AND himself.

He was proud, but not an egomaniac. He applied his last name to the company, but it was Roy who insisted on adding "Walt" to the Florida resort's name. I'm sure, today, he'd be honored to see the Partners statue standing proudly in the heart of the flagship park in the World he designed on the ceiling of his final hospital room.

He would have never commissioned it, or placed it there himself, but he would certainly get a glimmer in his eye if he saw it second-hand. He liked being recognized, while, again, being humble and quiet.
