Why does SSE have a blinking light ontop of it?

I know EE doesn't have to have it because it's not 200 ft. (it's 199 ft.). How tall is SSE? It looks a lot shorter than EE! Why?

Thanks!

I think the light was added because the height of the top of the wand is over 200 ft, thus requiring the beacon.

Yeah, sorry, I didn't word my OP right. I meant why does it have a light on the wand. That's so weird, I always thought that the wand looked so much shorter than EE!

Because they've build E:E using forced perspective, and for the wand they didn't...

Thanks! I just looked it up and they did use forced perspective! Didn't they paint shadows onto the mountain to make it look a lot taller than it really is?

A cast member told me on my last trip that Disney never builds in-park structures over 200 ft. (they typically stop at 199 ft.) because they don't like to have the blinking light. I was surprised that they went over this to have the wand.

Correct. SSE was built below that threshold, but when they added in the wand, to make it look right (no comment :lookaroun), the height was over the threshold.

I don't know about the shadows, but I believe the upper portion of the mountain is much smaller than it should be, making it appear further away from the viewer. Because it's difficult to see the base of the peak from the ground, the viewer assumes that all of the proportions are proper.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

They also have a foreground, middle ground and background in the 3 mountain peaks. Of course, as soon as you see a train going up the lift hill it totally kills the effect

The only time I remember hearing about a structure being specifically designed to 199 feet to avoid the blinking light was ToT, out of concern for the theme. The castle's far under 200, and so is SsE, I think. I think the actual sphere is something like 189 feet in diameter.

Maybe SsE looks so much smaller because of the gargantuan Mickey hand swiping at it? :lookaroun

I know the castle is defineitly (I spelled that wrong) not 200 ft! They used forced perspective on that too (I know because I saw it on a TV show)! Who doesn't learn stuff from TV?!?! LOL
