Why does MK close at 4:30 tomorrow?

A petty pet peeve.
When is "tommorow"?
If you make the title "Why is park closing early on 11/30" people would know when you are talking about. At this point not only is it irrelevant it is misleading.
That's funny. Thanks for the laugh.

The early closing time has been posted for at least 3 months, so no reason not to be able to change plans surely?
That is not the point-most people plan their vacation to Disney more than 3 months in advance. For the inconvenience they should allow free admission to MK for ticket holders until 4:30 and then let them use their ticket for another park. Nothing unreasonable about that concession for Disney patrons.

I'm not following your reasoning here. If MK was free, everyone would go, lines would be impossible, and no one would get near as much done as they would with the lowered crowd level of the 4:30 close.

With all due respect I would ask you to read my post. I was referring to people that had tickets- I said nothing about free admission-that would be more unfair to those that had tickets and planned to visit MK on that day.

Yes, I read your post. I did not think you were referring to free admission for everyone. My assumption was you were referring to those who were planning to go to MK that particular day. I think in your scenario, most everyone with tickets, hopper or no hopper, would go to MK, making it crazy crowded. Then, they would just go to whatever park they might have been planning for that day, on another day.
Maybe I am just confused, I have been for awhile now. If I had multi day tickets I would certainly head to MK that day regardless of where I had been planning to go. Was your idea only to apply if you already had fast passes and ADRs for that day?

They should make attendance to MK free for ticket holders and then at 4:30 use your daily ticket at another park. I glad we didn't make reservations 9 months in advance and arrive at WDW to find Mk is closed at 4:30. Just another decision that shows no concern for the patrons.

This is so incredibly rude to the people who work hard everyday to keep people happy. This is a huge reason why people in customer service get worse attitudes all the time. Not many companies do things like this for their employees. Learn to plan ahead and it won't be an issue. I applaud Disney for this, good for them.

I have not commented on this other than answering the OP's question. I figured this was all self-explanatory. The people running the park closed the park for something thought was worthy of closing the park. They announced it early enough that anyone could make plans accordingly. Here's what I don't get:

-Most people on this forum complain that Disney only cares about making money no matter what. One could argue that closing at 4:30 cuts into that profit a bit. They closed anyway to celebrate the people who have been with the company for years.

-They considered people who travel and have to plan in advance by announcing the closure far in advance.

-People are saying they should not use their park to host an event honoring people who work for their parks every day. Are people really saying they should not get any perk for their service and tolerance of the abuse they get every day?

I would venture a guess that anyone on this forum who has ever been to the park has witnessed multiple events of patrons being down right mean to cast members for trivial matters. Yet those same cast members are back at work with a smile and a high-five for our kids the very next day. It's not as if they are getting paid $100/hour. It seems to be the very least we could do as lovers of Disney is to support them and be happy they do get some perks and some appreciation from management.

Just found a post on TP from May this year, in which someone asked about park days, saying "MK has one 4:30 close for a staff event on Nov 30th" ......

So this date was posted as early closing from when park hours were posted 180 days+ out. No one should have had to rearrange anything concrete, not even an ADR. I believe there's another date in May next year that's already posted as early closing.

In this case whiny patrons like you deserve to the get the shaft. If it comes between inconveniencing entitled WDW Guests or giving Cast Members who have hit a service milestone a fun celebration, you bet I'm going to side with the CMs. If you are too lazy to plan your visit around a 4:30pm close of the MK, then you deserve to be miserable.
I agree with you that Cast Members fully deserve this celebration but the patrons deserve the respect also. I was proposing a common sense solution-that is not whiny it was being practical. Calling me lazy and insinuating I would be miserable is rather rude on your part. I generally find people on the this forum nice and considerate sorry you didn't want to have a civil conversation.

Actually it was not my intention to be rude to anyone. I think the cast members are the best and deserve this celebration and would hope Disney would find a way to make sure the customers were taken care of as well.

What time do you have to leave if you're not attending the Christmas party event?

I'll have to differ to the 6:00 as noted above. They do not immediately "kick you out" but unless you have an event band they will not allow you into queues for rides and it is my understanding that they politely direct you towards the exits. I can't say 100% for sure because I have always refused to pay extra to stay in a park I already paid full price to get into.

Right, it's a soft close which means they don't clear the park and then re-open. This allows non party people to "shop". But they do politely encourage leaving as time rolls on.

That's why they sell park hoppers. Like the party days, I don't think it's fair to charge a full day's admission for only 8 or so hours, but it's their park and they can do what they want with it.

The CM event was for all CM's with service milestones starting at 5 yrs and 5 yr. increments 10,15,20 etc.

The service celebration is for CMs starting at 10+ years (5 year CMs do not attend)

What time do you have to leave if you're not attending the Christmas party event?

The rides stop for non-party guests at 6pm. However, they don't have to leave the park until 7 (because of castle lighting, and shopping if they want)
