Why does everyone hate SGE?

I'd echo a lot of what I've read above but some points worth repeating:

* Most of the humor is too childish for adults (sentenced to jail for stealing donuts WITH NO MILK!), but the ride itself goes pitch black which scares the you-know-what out of a ton of kids under 10. Never sat through this without at least 2 or 3 kids loudly freaking out.

* The sci-fi remnants of Alien Encounter clash horribly with the aesthetic of the Stitch universe animation (which itself is clearly TV series quality, not up to the high standards of, say, Philharmagic).

* The preshows drag. The Stitch spitting bit drags. It takes a long time to get to the relatively brief dark sequence, which should be the highlight of the attraction (even if, again, IT SCARES A TON OF KIDS).

* The chili dog joke. You can't bring food in there. Everyone knows this. So the joke falls flat. And yeah, the smell is annoying and lingers, unlike the skunk scent in JIYI.

* "E-arth". "Flor-E-duh." A friend of mine was management at SGE, even he considered these the worst jokes on property. Make the Jungle Cruise sound like the Algonquin Roundtable.

Keep in mind, I'm a huge Stitch fan. And I really don't have a problem with his inclusion in Tomorrowland (not ideal, but you pick your battles, fits here better than anywhere else in MK). It's just a boring, unfunny ride.

Not everyone hates Stitch's Great Escape, there are some guests (of all ages) who love it, but most of the fan community doesn't like it because they know it replaced a better attraction. I say better because Alien Encounter was meant to terrify you with a truely unique storyline. Sure, it may not have fit in the Magic Kingdom and was known to scare children, but you can't say that the signs didn't warn you. Stitch's Great Escape is essentially the same idea, but has been toned down a bit for the kids. As a result, the storyline isn't the best because they had to work with what they had.

Many guests that come to Stitch's Great Escape are confused about what it actually is. The guidemap lists it as "an alien experience" which doesn't really say anything. With the height requirement, most come in thinking it is a ride. Even the final chambers look as thought they might spin. This may be because the unique circular theater, the shoulder restraints, and also the black and yellow markings that can be found of the wall. Those markings on all other Disney attractions mean the border of a ride envelope. That no one should step beyond that black and yellow line due to moving parts of vehicles.

The other problem is that the attraction doesn't follow the movie, but rather the television show. Most people saw the movie, but less people saw the television show. People who have seen the movie come in expecting the cute lovable Stitch alongside Lilo, but instead Stitch is a troublemaker and Lilo is no where to be found.

The storyline itself has been toned down for kids, and in most cases, it was successful, but Stitch's Great Escape does still have scary moments that even with posted signs out front, do scare children. The loud noises, simulated canon firing, and period of pitch black darkness along with suspenseful lighting and music can easily make a child feel uneasy if not completely terrified. The only part in the show that combats this is the ending where Stitch is at the Magic Kingdom and visits Cinderella Castle.

The special effects are also a reason many do not like it. Most of these effects are taken from Alien Encounter, but in this storyline, they barely fit. Some complain that the 7 lbs of pressure that the shoulder restraints push down is too much. Other point out the sickening smell after Stitch essentially burps in your face. Some find the seats claustrophobic. Others come to find that their service animals and handicapped children cannot experience it because the use of strobes and loud sounds. Some even have trouble with the extensive use of theatrical smoke.

Working cast members typically do not like the attraction for many reasons as well. Due to the scary nature of the show, many kids get scared. As with most shows, people are typically allowed to leave is they need to. With Stitch's Great Escape, the period of darkness, narrow aisles, and swinging canons pose a safety threat. The restraints can be easily pushed up allowing for anyone to get up and leave unless they are stopped. Some parents try to sit their kids on their laps before and during the show which is also a safety issue once the restraints start bouncing up and down. Another huge issue that both working cast and guests can agree on is when someone turns on a lighted object during the dark scenes. Cell phone screens, flashlights, cameras, glow swords, laser pointers, flashing shoes, etc can all spoil the attraction for everyone by destroying the illusion and ruining the magic.

All in all, there is a majority, especially in the fan community who just find it a waste of time. The attraction doesn't have a good re-rideability factor, the storyline is not that great, the attraction replaced a better attraction, the attraction is confusing to most people who have never done it before, the attraction ends up leaving some of those people disappointed and expecting more, and finally, many factors such as cell phones, screaming kids, and broken effects can ruin the show.

To explain why people do like is harder, but my guess is that it is a unique show experience, it does have some very cool special effects including an outstanding audio-animatronic figure, and some of the script has some humor in it. Kids do seem to enjoy it more than adults.

I'd also agree with all of this in addition to what I stated above.

it's just not drawing. i mean, it's decent enough, but compared to the rest of the park it's a pretty stupid attraction (sorry! :( ) i mean, it was built on the foundation of a stupid attraction, i guess that's why. the ExtraTERRORestrial wasn't that impressive to begin with. changing it to Stitch didn't helpt at all.

The attraction, in trying to please everybody, pleases nobody. It is clearly a watered down version of the Extra TERRORestrial Alien Encounter. It offers none of the suspense or psychological trickery that made the attraction so iconic. The whole of Stitch's Great Escape is taking that and trying to make it pander towards children.

Another contradiction, if memory serves me well, is that we are rookie prison officers. So why are we held down if we are needed to help with this big prisoner? And if it's for our safety, since we are rookies, why put us in there in the first place?

Because it stinks. Literally.

Really, that chilli dog breath or whatever smell that was was just disgusting. Made me want to throwup.

Also it hurt. The contraption you sit in was really tight on my shoulders.

And, I hate the Stitch character.

It is your first day of training. You are just starting to learn the basics of our teleportation system when suddenly there is an emergency that requires "all hands on deck". Since you don't have the complete training you are simply just watching how a level 3 is handled as it happens. The shoulder restraints are "DNA scanners" that make sure that your DNA doesn't interfere with the teleportation. As the story continues, the level 3 doesn't seem as threatening so the others go make sure it wasn't a mistake leaving you to keep an eye on the alien while they figure thing out.

Because I'm not paying to be chained in while having that burp smell sprayed around me. It smells more like vomit. Or at least I think it did because it made me throw up a little bit in my mouth.

Also Disney's forcing Stitch into the main park characters essentially turned him into Poochie.

The only part of the attraction to me that feels the least bit "Disney" whimsical is at the very end when he is trying to find Cinderella in the castle.

The rest is a cold (scenery wise), dark, place that's either scary or annoying depending on what age you are.

To put it bluntly, it's because it's not Alien Encounter. I understand why they toned it down but they overdid it, plus the choice of Stitch was not the best. You either love him or you hate him, and I think for many it's the former. Personally I think Monsters Inc. characters would have been a better choice. (Obviously this would have been pre-Laugh Floor).

Because the attraction is not a "Lilo and Stitch" attraction. It has nothing to do with the movie. They took the cheaper and easier way out by doing a partial refurb on an existing attraction instead of rebuilding or gutting the building and doing it correctly.

The former attraction is still very present and completely contradicts the theming and overall mischevous yet cute aspects of the character and the movie.

It is like remaking the movie Silence of the Lambs but having Adam Sandler play Hannibal Lector and passing it off as a completely new and amazing movie that everyone should watch.

...and I actually don't hate the attraction but this is the problem I have with it

Stitch is extremely unlikable in the ride, and for kids he's way too scary. The smell-o-vision is not fun, it's a turnoff. The chairs press down painfully on your shoulders (or at least MY shoulders). And it's a bit of a downer when the lights go out and you hear little kids crying in fear around you. Some fun!

The ride's a disaster IMO.

All the obvious reasons are said but there is one I think that should be made clear.

This is the type of product you get when something is done solely for the sake of money first and artistic value second. It was a move to give Stitch an attraction as quickly and cheaply as possible. This is the kind of creation one gets when creativity is under that kind of thing.

For me i hate it because of how much i loved the ride before. It was my dads and sisters favorite ride and we came back one time and it was stitch. Its not the worst ride but it just is so much worse than it was. It used to be scary, and now its ''silly''. And i love lilo and stitch, but the ride feels forced.

-I hate the character of Stitch.
-The 1st pre-show is incredibly boring.
-The 2nd pre-show tries to get cheap laughs, but isn't funny.
-The chili dog smell is gross.
-The spitting thing is just stupid and pointless.
-The writing is awful.
-The animation is awful.

I've been wondering about this for years. No one has ever really given me a specific reason why anyone hates this amazing, fun-filled attraction, and is definately a must for me at Magic Kingdom. It is second best followed behind Space Mountain (at least for me). I've looked everywhere but the only responses I've ever seen is, "SGE stinks!" or "Shut it down!"
Okay... any good reason?
Can you guys give me a reason?
(20 reasons and I will post why I LIKE it so much).

There only needs to be one reason, it's bad. AND I don't care why you like it, I still won't go. Like I tell my wife, most people have bad taste and now I have a reference to go to.

Its a poor mans "Tough To Be A Bug", the steam in there makes it drip condensation from the ceiling, I got soaked on my shoulder more than one occasion, and what about it seems like a great escape, there is no thrill to it at all except that when its hot you can go inside and cool off.
