Why does everyone hate SGE?

First - I dislike the character and that is enough reason for me.

Most importantly, they seem to keep trying to 'revamp' and original attraction (Mission to Mars) just by changing the story and some effects....I wasn't crazy about Alien Encounter but it was better than Stich.

sorry I have just two reasons, but it is all I need to not ride it ever again

1. features character few care about from movie few care about
2. bad show in more ways than one

I posted about this before, but let me start by saying that I am a big Lilo and Stitch fan; love the movie, love the reformed Stitch, love Stitch pins. BUT I really don't like SGE for several reasons.

1) For me, it's the actual type of attraction that doesn't appeal to me. I don't want to be trapped in my seat while Stitch jumps on my head and torments me. Shoot, the princesses could be singing me an opeara in a fully lit room, but as long as those shoulder harnesses are down while I'm not moving, I get really freaked out. And they HURT; I wasn't prepared for how hard those things push down on you. Maybe if we could lower them ourselves, maybe I wouldn't care, but they are really kind of painful the first time they clamp down on you.

2) The smell, quite frankly. If it lingered for a little while and went away, I wouldn't care. But it seemed to follow me everywhere I went, and I couldn't get away from it. I still remember it to this day, and the last time I went was 4 years ago.

3) The portrayal of Stitch. Yes, he is designed as a monster. Yes he is supposed to be mean and evil and starts the movie off that way. But Stitch ends up being really really cute, even calling himself "cute and fluffy". And I love that version of him. Even in the movie, when he's being a little rascal its cute, its not scary. I just wish Stitch would get a place to be his good little self with Lilo. I wasn't prepared for how mean and creepy they made Stitch look. :goodnevil Judging by your avatar, you like the crazy monster version of Stitch, which is fine, we just have different opinions.

4) If an alien society can build spaceships, engineer genetically strong super blue fluff balls, and actually construct and operate a teleporter, why can't they bring the right prisoner to the right chamber? Just saying.

Overall, for me, the ride is dark, stinky, and ruins one of my favorite original Disney characters. I don't enjoy the harnesses, the cramped theater, or the storyline of the attraction. The whole thing just didn't work for me the last time I went. :brick:

Has it been a while? Yes. Should I probably go on it again to make absolutely sure that I hate SGE? Yes. But I just have such bad memories, I never take the time to try it.

Specific reasons for hating it:

1. It's NOT "fun filled".
2. It's NOT even amusing.
3. It's a waste of my time, much like "Sounds Dangerous" at DHS is/was.

LOL another Stitch thread? Yes we all know the OP adores him and loves the attraction...and that's fine...also known that a vast majority of posters here don't like that attraction...and they have already stated the why's....:lookaroun

But a Stitch vent is a stitch vent nonetheless....I did not mind movie...but much prefer the disney classics, and rather thought it was cute when Stitch tried to take over the MK...the monorail spiel, the bathroom giggles...it was fine short term....like 6 months. BUT as an attraction?!?!?! :brick: I did not think Alien Encounter belonged in the MK...and Stitch either.
It's like we learned on Sesame Street..."Which of the things doesn't belong?" Yep it reminds me of the caliber attraction I found at Universal which I refuse to ever go back to....I see imagineering at it's lowest...excepting the Stitch stage show that only lasted weeks.

My only hope is that the Kingdom Keepers will eradicate Stitch and the attraction in the upcoming book... :king:

It's really simple.

The vast majority of people who go on it don't have fun.

It's not fun, it's not enjoyable.

I can't break down the ride and say "it's this" or "its that."

I go on... I get off... and my natural emotions are "wow that sucked I wish I could have the last 15 minutes of my life back."

Not to mention Alien Encounter, before it, was one of the most original and engrossing rides I had ever been on.

So to replace it with the watered down, kiddie garbage was just a joke, in my opinion.

When Disney closed Alien Encounter (poor choice, imo), you would expect them to use the space for a different ride with better technology and an overall better experience.

Unfortunately, that's not what happened with SGE.
They took the cheap way and used the same ride system as AE, but with a more unlike-able character and a really bad story.

The space is not very big, but a much better attraction can go there.

Actually, I think I hate SGE as much as I hated AE before it......and that was a lot. Entertainment value for either attraction: ZERO.

--Burp from a monster (not exactly in the spirit or classiness of what most consider to be the Disney brand and especially not in the Magic Kingdom park)

--Mechanical things coming down on your shoulders that hurt, even if briefly, for what is clearly not a roller coaster ride (so unnecessary pain) for a character designed to be obnoxious.

--The fact that it is a butchered version of a butchered attraction. Alien Encounter was too scary and cynical, and this is just a prime example of not thinking things through.

I think much has happened in the way of space exploration and the Mars rovers would be really cool to incorporate into a Mission to Mars attraction on the tame, family friendly side. The idea of REAL space exploration is pretty neat, and certainly Tomorrowland themed.

I went on SGE while it was in previews, and I wrote a rather detailed, point-by-point post about what I thought was wrong with it (example, the ending - it was so abrupt, and it basically was the toon on the screen saying, "Oh well, might as well let these people go").

Then it went under, and when it finally opened - they literally had addressed every single point I mentioned. It was almost like someone printed out the post and checked them off one by one, LOL.

For what it is, I think it's a great little diversion now. I think many fans resent it because they don't like the "dumbing down" from Alien Encounter (how dare Disney actually try to scare you), and because they simply don't like Stitch (who in the mid-00's was the definition of over-saturation).

It's nice and AC in there, and I still drop in occasionally. It's not that bad, and when it was in previews - it was a HECK of a lot worse. They cleaned it up, though, and for what it is - not a bad attraction these days.

I love Stitch the movie and the character.

The ride stinks because:

- Characters have no place in Tomorrowland.
- Stitch is Hawaii more than 'science fiction'. Mischievous more than scary. Cute and cuddly more than annoying.
- What is the point of a scary attraction that isn't scary? What's next, a stationary Space Mountain because people complain it is rough? :brick:

4. It's hilarious! I wonder if anyone here paid attention to the dialogue half the time. I've literally memorized EVERY SINGLE WORD from the two preshows and the main show. Can YOU do that? Just listen to the funny dialogue and it is funny.

My favorite line of dialog comes from the lady assistant in the main chamber theater right after Stitch "tickles" the audience and hot wires the controls. She says "Ohh, this is really bad." and I laugh every time because I just think of an Imagineer sticking that dialog in the show to describe the show itself. That and also when Captain Gantu says, "is this some kind of joke?" I'm sure that is what most people are thinking. lol
