Why Do You Use that Screen Name?

Hey, this is an interesting thread!

I agree, this is a great idea! I've often wondered how people came up with their names. It really says something about them.

I think mine says that I'm sort of lazy and clueless. I'm not very savvy with these boards, and when I signed in, I just ran my names (Gary Hoover) together.

In the beginning, my name was even more unimaginative than the current one! ;) However, when I was a newbie, I took offense to a post, and "got into it" with someone. After saying something pretty rude, I looked at his profile and realized how young he was; so I apologized for my remark, and noted that I was old enough to be his mother, and should have known better. He started calling me "Mom" from that point on (he's on my favorites list, BTW) and others started picking up on it. And I've tried to avoid sparring with people, especially since I AM old enough to be most everyone's mom!

Last December a banned (and IMHO, unstable) poster listed my real name (which was also my screen name), along with a few others' screen names, on his website as being a terrible person and insinuating (but never actually saying anything) that I should be dealt with...since he doesn't live too far away, it spooked me...that's when I changed my screen name!

And, he started out with "minor" incidents, which then escalated out of control. This is one reason why some "problem" posters are dealt with so harshly by the "old guard" ....many posters felt that they had somehow failed to protect me (and others) from him, and don't want it to EVER happen again, to me or anyone else!

Interesting story Mom ( I seriously doubt you're old enough to be my mother though ) :)

I haven't been on this board long enough to have experienced some of the past events I've been hearing about, but the more I hear the more interesting it gets.

Maybe someone will make a movie someday.

"tigger" because he's my favorite character, and 1968 because that's when Disney introduced him, AND that's the year I was born.

Very interesting thread! I had always wondered about some of the names. Some are obvious, but it's neat to read the thinking on why people choose what they do.:D
