Why do things like this happen???

OK, my family leaves tomorrow for WDW and I swear if I had any luck at all, it'd be bad luck. Today, my daughter and I are on our way home from dropping off one of my two sons at school when we get slammed into from behind by a dump truck barreling in at appr. 40 mph. Our entire minivan is smashed in from the back and from the front from where he pushed me into the car in front of me. The van is totaled and my daughter (who's 2) and I both got taken by ambulance to our ER where I have whiplash and a sprained neck and she's got scratches all over her neck from where her car seat got her upon impact. Why do things like this happen right before we leave??????? I've been planning this trip for a year and now we're down to 1 stinking day and this happens???? UGHHHHHHHHHH...:brick:

First of all be glad that you came out of that with only minor injuries and that your 2yo is fine. I have two little ones and I worry about this sort of thing happening. The trip can be postponed while your well-being is the most important thing.

Also... just an FYI. It's suggested that you destroy a car seat that has been in a wreck. We had to get rid of one (per the police officer) even though our daughter was not in it. The insurance company is supposed to reimburse you for a new car seat -- ours did.

Again, I'm glad it wasn't any worse!

I am so sorry to hear that. It could have been worse......not to be morbid, but someone could have died. Just be grateful that you both are alive and all intact, minus a sprain and some scratches. I hope you were planning on flying and not driving.....

Don't let this ruin your trip. Dwelling on it is not going to make things better, just make everyone miserable and ruin all the time, effort and money you and your family spent.

Have a Magical Trip!!!

It's good to hear that you both have minor injuries. Hopefully this will not put to much of a damper on your trip. Just make sure you are prepared that you will probably both be a pretty sore for the next couple of days.

Wishing you both a quick recovery and a great vacation!

It is good to hear you only had minor injuries. Four years ago we purchased a new truck and were driving down. The day we were leaving, my husband ran up to Walmart to get a few things. He and another car were both backing out of their spaces and did not see each other. It was minor damage, but it does put a damper on things especially when you are trying to get a hold of insurance when you should have left an hour ago. Since our vehicle was new, they pinned the accident on my husband (insurance agents words) since both were backed out into the lane. Don't let it ruin your trip. I made fun of my husband the entire trip and he laughed to. It was his first accident and he was uptight, so the joking helped him. Go to WDW and put it out of your mind for a week. That is what is great about the place.

I'm so sorry.
Hopefully the trip will help you get over your injuries and the stress related to the accident.
We're all happy to know that the injuries to both you and your little one were minor.
Have a happy and safe trip!

Glad you are OK.

Good news is that in a case like this Disney will move your reservations without any cost to you. Several months ago my mom had a seizure the day before my wife and I were to leave for a weekend trip and Disney gave me a full refund with less than 24 hours notice.

The better news is if you get a decent lawyer your Disney vacation will be paid for by the irresponsible driver that could have easily killed you and your daughter.

I'm sorry you had to go through this, but I'm glad you made it out alright with only minor injuries.

Like most people are saying, be very fortunate that you were this lucky...someone could have had serious and even fatal injuries. Just imagine how ruined your trip would have been then!
Even though it sucks, the van CAN be replaced; lives cannot be replaced.

Even if you have to postpone your trip, I hope you have a wonderful time! Maybe you will enjoy your trip a little more than you had planned. :)

Be thankful that you and your daughter are fine and still able to go on your trip. Of course it's aggravating, but things could be so much worse. I'm sure having your daughter with you when this happened was very scary.
Go on your trip and have a great time.
I'll tell you a little story about my trip in 13 days. The air conditioner went out on our SUV, then last Saturday night while at a football game, someone busted a window out to steal my daughters purse (we know it shouldn't have been there and hopefully she learned a lesson). My mother-in-law had knee replacement surgery yesterday, and I had to have a biopsy Monday (everythings fine thank God). My sister asked me what I was going to do about my trip if I had to have surgery. I told her as long as I had enough pain pills to get me through the car ride, nothing was going to stop me from going.

Have a great time.

Glad there were no life threatening injuries.I asked myself the same thing last month.I am 35 and never been in an accident.I moved here to Indianapolis from Florida and 2 days after moving here a lady runs a red light and hits my family in the mini-van going about 60 miles an hour and t boned us.The 3 witnesses( one was a cop) said we got spun around 3 times then went up on 2 wheels and almost rolled but since we hit a curb we went back down on all 4.Spent out second day in Indiana in the ER getting family checked out.Wife hurt her knee bad and I smashed my face up bad when we came back down on all 4 wheels by smashing my head on the side window.THANK GOD my kids only had minor scratches.

So I definately feel for ya bro.

Sorry that happened to you, especially with 1 day to go :( . Glad you both made it without serious injuries.

Enjoy your trip and be thankful it wasn't more serious. It would be a great reason to make a stop at the spa! :) :) :)

Circa 1989. My wife and I leave at 5:30 AM for a 5 day cruise, then on to Disney for 3 days. We we arrive at the cruise terminal in Miami, my wife decides to call her Mom one more time to say good bye. By 6:00, our house had been broken into (67 year old mom caught him in the act at chased him!) and we had lost a VCR, jewlery, bonds, checkbooks, etc, and the TV was halfway out the door. After arranging for my sister's fiance to stay at our house, we went on with the vacation anyway and were glad we did. The mess was still there when we got back, but at least we weren't sitting around stewing about it.

Sometimes "stuff" happens, and you're not alone. Glad to hear you are all OK. Enjoy your vacation.
