Before writing the script.

The originals script and shoot had Matt Smith as the villain. So there was a major deviation in production and the finished film.
Yes, that may be. But you said you only heard rumors, I'm providing proof that it was confirmed that it happened. Doesn't matter the outcome, the point is that JJ met with Lucas about Ep9.

It would be interesting to find out what role Matt Smith was supposed to play. Maybe a Sith Time Lord?

Which means absolutely nothing. I'm sure JJ met with Lucas before TFA. The suggestion that the sequels, or Rise is in anyway Lucas, of Lucas's involvement in crafting them is the thing that almost certainly didn't happen.

I never suggested that RoS was anything other than a product of Abrams. I only suggested that Lucas had been consulted about Ep9, which is 100% true and has been confirmed by both Abrams and Lucas himself. Whether JJ used any of George's suggestions is 100% not the point.

It was rumored and speculated but never confirmed. Matt Smith even denied any involvement (which could mean nothing). He was rumored to play a young, rejuvenated clone of the Emperor I believe. That or a dark side acolyte attempting to bring Sidious back from the dead. Not sure if any of this had any development at all because the first bit of concept art of Palpatine for TROS was drawn up in November of 2017 looking very similar to his appearance in the film.

On topic, I still like Galaxy's Edge. All of the pieces for a great land are there. Now, would I have done something different? Yes. lol Hindsight is 20/20 They certainly had a missed opportunity for having a pod racing/ speeder bike racing coaster glide through that giant mountain that surrounds the land. If I were given to chance to expand I would use the plot of land behind Oga's and The First Order store and add a "Thieves Den" which would include secluded winding walkways, the second hidden Cantina and Full service Restaurant as well as an indoor thrill ride. A coaster of somesort.

As a SW nerd, I was absolutely entranced by Galaxy's Edge. My only regret was not getting into Oga's or being able to spend more time just exploring every nook and cranny. I only made one visit there. All that being said, it absolutely needs another attraction and full service restaurant.

Agreed on the attraction, and hopefully they figure one out. On the restaurant though, from a park ops perspective, they aren't the best option. They take up a lot of space and the capacity/turn around isn't great. If it came down to having another attraction or a restaurant, I think I would rather have the attraction. Try to avoid another Cove Bar situation.

Absolutely. In a land full of dining options, I’d take more attractions in GE in a heartbeat

Interesting looking at Rick McCallum's career after the prequels. He has only produced a handful of short lived tv series and Red Tails (which I enjoyed).
He was George's boy...I do wonder if SW and the general reaction to the prequels overall hurt his ability to get work. He was everywhere during the production of I-III

I just took a look back through this thread and we've come up with several ideas that would help GE a great deal, even if Disney keeps to the ST timeline and doesn't drop half a billion on a 3rd attraction. If Disney added:

Music throughout the land.
Greenery, trees, flowers.
More walkaround characters.
The roaming bounty hunters, droids and aliens we were promised.
Use force powers with a lightsaber.
Battles between Resistance and First Order like during the press opening.
Lightsaber duels, Jedi v Sith.
Live music, dancers and street performers.
Jedi Training Academy
Transportation ala Main Street Vehicles.
Mandalorians.
Beer garden.
Expanded cantina/dining show.
More things to do with the Datapad.

I'd certainly enjoy GE a lot more. I'd prefer opening the timeline to all Star Wars eras and characters, but this wouldn't be bad.
