Why aren’t there more stand alone DVC resorts?

The new tower is still going ahead. My gripe with that is that it’s nearly all studios. We won’t bother staying onsite in a studio when we can stay nearby for far less.
But I bet they can fit a whole lot more studios in than one- and two-bedrooms. Plus most people don't do DLR for a whole week and there are many more food options in walking distance, so maybe they assumed fewer people would be interested in the perks of a full kitchen and laundry.

I guess that’s true.

Thing is though if we’re coming from the U.K. we’d be staying at least a a week or so in LA. Somehow doesn’t seem much point staying in downtown LA and then moving to a studio for three nights. That adds to the cost, whereas a 1-bed would be a good base and “costs” us nothing for accommodation. Plus with two grown sons we want our own space. So studios don’t cut it for us.

My point was there needs to be an all DVC resort near DLR, in other words one that is only DVC and not tied to an existing hotel. This would have studios, one, two and three bedroom units available.

Do you think if they really tried Disney could do 4 star? Like a DCL level experience at a domestic resort? Or is it just not what people want from this brand?

Honestly, I think that is already what Disney Resorts provide with room service, etc.

I am not sure what they are missing that the high end resorts that aren't Disney has and I have stayed at some before.

Disneyland Resort area....sorry, we live 15 minutes away, that's here.
Gotcha! DLR defintiely needs more!

Absolutely the deluxes could. It just costs money to do so. Just go down the street to four seasons and learn a thing or 3. As it is WDW is not bad like a Holiday Inn or any place I stay for work. No motel or anything, but nothing super fancy. Often service is better too.

They are missing service that makes you feel welcomed and special. Kirk at BRV was an example but he's no longer and it's rare you find specialized service at Disney. You're just another name. Not to mention linens and furnishings are not great. Amenities lack at many resorts as a whole.

I was shocked at how easily the Disneyland tower DVC project sailed through the Anaheim zoning committee and city council. Disney brought their A-game from the perspective of trying to make it work for the neighborhood and it worked.

I wonder if it will embolden them for the future. The Disneyland master plan that the City Council has already approved includes approval for thousands more hotel rooms, but they need a zoning variance to use those rooms as DVC instead.
