Why are value resorts so expensive right now??

Because it's Disney World :) I've yet to feel like the cost of a value is worth dealing with having to share buses and the noise levels I've heard report of. Not cheap enough for me to deal with. LOL

So I'm trying to get just 1 night at a value this Friday night-preferably Pop Century, and it says it's $175???? In what world is this a value?? I'm seriously blown away.
Resort rates switch form value to peak on or around February 14th. This is due to demand going up due to a number of holidays and ruining events. You chance of a promotion and the value of the ones available go down the closer you get your travel dates.

You also have the Daytona racing events this coming weekend. My wife is going for the half-marathon. We know some people who are staying at a Disney resort but going over to Daytona for the duals Thursday another race Saturday and the 500 Sunday. Plenty of people stay in Orlando for the Daytona 500. Lots of reasons for rates to be high right now. Of course the main reason being it is Disney and they can get those rates.

We go up to WDW at least 1x month and have yet to stay at a on-property resort. I am there for the parks. I could care less where I lay my head. As long as it is clean, has a shower, and the bed is bedbug free, I am happy. I go on priceline and spend no more than $60/night for at least a 3 star hotel. Never have any issues finding one!

I am an AP holder, so parking is free at the parks too, so I don't need shuttle service.

Yeah, this weekend is in demand from school vacations, tail end of Presidents Day week, and the Princess Half Marathon. Looking at next Monday, it's $20 less than Thursday. It's just a busy period right now.

On-site Disney is never cheap anymore (if it ever was.) I suggest that those who want to stay on site do so for the resort itself, not the parks, to which the transportation should be viewed as a bonus, not the other way around.

For $175, I'm pretty sure you should be able to come up with a very nice room over on hotel row which also comes with bus service to/from the parks and is very convenient to DTD. I'm seeing $140 at the Wyndham, did not check any of the other 6.

I go and stay onsite for the resort, bought into DVC specifically for this and so I wouldn't break the bank with my resort addiction. Some trips we don't even touch the parks and it's even more relaxing :D. If I were there only for the parks I'd never pay those onsite rates. EMH isn't a selling point anymore as there are just too many folk staying on Disney property, and only one park is open for EMH at a time, so you know where everyone is headed.

We enjoy the resorts too. Our last on-site trip was 8 days, only 2 in Disney parks.

You soooooo nailed it! Often the perks for staying on site, are no longer perks because it's available to so many now! I love that mindset of resorts being the reason to stay, not the parks. That if you're just needing a place to sleep...look outside the fences, especially when so many offer transportation to the parks!!
