I don't know if this thread has been posted before, but I might as well...why are Disney fans getting all worked up about the arrival of Frozen in Norway?

Don't get me wrong, I'm just as against Frozen in Norway as you, but I just want to know EXACTLY why. What is it about this corporate synergy that gets under everyone's skin?

First, let's get the big elephant out of the room: does Frozen even take place in Norway? Well, the answer is more than likely--no. In fact, one reason that many people may have against Frozen in Norway is the fact that Hans Christian Andersen (who wrote "The Snow Queen", which inspired Frozen) was Danish. But, the film does take large influence from Scandivanian culture.

Second, characters have been here at Epcot since Eisner came into office. (don't believe me--watch Some Jerk with a Camera's "30 Years of EPCOT: The 80's", and see for yourself...
)

And, at first, it was relatively low-key, with characters from the countries their film takes place in (i;e Snow White in Germany, Mulan in China, Winnie the Pooh in the UK, etc.) And, it's not like characters have invaded EPCOT pavilions before. In fact, when Nemo and the Three Caballeros invaded The Living Seas and El Rio del Tiempo, no one really gave a rat's hat. So, why does Frozen have everyone in an uproar?

In addition, some of the performers aren't even FROM the country they say they're from. I won't name any, since I fear it'll ruin many things if I do. Plus, nearly everything merchandise-wise in World Showcase, is (of course) made in China.

So, again...I just don't understand why so many people hate the idea of Frozen in Norway. So, if you would like to share your beliefs or opinions on this matter, post 'em here.

Yes
People are completely sick of Frozen-mania and see this as just another quick cash grab by replacing a beloved attraction. People are afraid that the new attraction will be awful with minimal effort put into the ride. Personally, I've gotten over my hatred of Frozen, but I'm still livid that Maelstrom closed.

I am impressed that the frozen frenzy has left the parks. It is much more enjoyable. But once that horrible frozen castle light show returns i will be upset.

You know, when there really wasn't anything Frozen in the parks, people were complaining. "Why isn't Disney capitalizing on the biggest hit they've had since The Lion King? Shouldn't they have known it would be a huge hit despite everyone commenting on the trailers how it looked like a disappointing retread of Tangled with snow? Unmagical!"

And then when Disney actually DOES start to capitalize on it, in ways little different than how they did it in the early 90s (which you may recall some posters speaking of fondly)- "UGH! Too much Frozen! Greedy corporate shills! Tangled only got a bathroom! Why does Frozen get the attention? I mean, aside from $1 billion+ worldwide box office and two Academy Awards. UNMAGICAL!"

It doesn't fit in Epcot.

It deserves better - a purpose built area with a purpose built attraction (see TDS) in the right park.

To hell with all the story, development, theming and purpose of World Showcase. This is being done purely to attempt to boost the parks attendance instead of developing and adding more suitable attractions.

The main reason for me is that World Showcase is supposed to highlight the history and culture of the people from that country. There is an intellectual depth to what is presented.

Frozen has the depth of a kiddie pool, at least as far as it's setting is concerned.

I am not all that concerned that it will suck. I have heard that lot of the effects from Mystic Manor will be utilized along with some great AAs. So, while too short with a massive queue, the ride itself shouldn't disappoint.

I think Frozen the ride will be better than Maelstrom. Frozen also is a great movie that looks fantastic on my 3d blu-ray, my lap filled with popcorn and little nieces.

But World Showcase is WS. Frozen in World Showcase is as grating as The Hulk coaster smack dab in the middle of Fantasyland, complete with bare steel inversion through Cinderella Castle. ('But he is a cartoon character...and FL features toons so it fits!!')

It seems to me that the biggest periods of park growth come after boosted attendance.

Don't be so sure...

Yeah, we know all that. And still....the country of Arendale, the one Elsa is Queen of, is NOT the country of Norway. Which is what this pavilion is supposedly about. Actual, factual history about Norway. Frozen fits in The Norwegian Pavilion in World Showcase in the same way Star Wars fits in Africa in DAK.
