My only cruising experience was several years ago here in New Orleans, using a smaller cruise line called COMMODORE. (They have since gone out of business.)

You should be receiving information with your tickets, which will give you an idea of what to expect. Or visit the Carnival web site, if you haven't already done so. Like with any vacation, you can do as much or as little as you like.

I remember my travel agent gave me some excursion information in advance of the trip, so I was able to see what other activities were available at each port. I like to plan ahead, so that worked well for me.

On one excursion, I snorkeled for the first time in the beautiful crystal clear waters of the Grand Caymans, where I fed tame stingrays, and snorkeled again in the Montego Bay National Marine Park. It was such a relaxing way to spend some quality time with nature.

The ships photographers will want to take your photo for everything...Just go with the flow...there is no pressure to buy anything.

The food will be wonderful (I hope) and there will be plenty of it, day and night. There will be lots of entertainment, hopefully something for everyone's taste.

I hope you have a great trip !

You may be better off doing a search for cruise line info. I have given many a tip , plus so have many others. The planning section always seems to have lots of questions and answers surrounding the cruise line, plus there are great general tips for first time cruisers.

Yea we have found other forum sites...
but honestly..I got more out of you guys within an hour...than I got with other forums in days....

Thanks for the information Cam...
Out boat doesn't stop at Grand Cayman
but we will make it to Cozemal (sp?) which I believe does have good snorkling..but nothing compared to the GCs....

We're also hitting Belize....doing the ruins tour at the "itza-a-chichen" place.....

Hope all goes well....

Ahoy DISNEYDUDETTE!!!

I just got back from my first cruise last night!

It was on the Disney WONDER and it was AWESOME!

I'll post a full trip report once I got caught up here, but let me just warn you: bring clothing that fits you now and some that is a size larger to change into mid-way through your cruise!!!

The ocean was very smooth for us, but just in case get yourself some motion-sickness pills (Dramamine or the "less drowsy" Bonine).

Some of the most exciting parts of the cruise, in my opinion, were the pulling in and pulling out of the ports. It's quite the operation for the crew!

Also, be sure to check with your travel agent to get a list of shore excursions you may want to go on and book them in advance.

Disney was so awesome with everything from paperwork to customs, to debarkation, etc., that it really made the entire cruis experience stress-free!!

The only bad news.....I'm now HOOKED ON CRUISING!!!

:sohappy:

If you have any questions of a more specific nature, please drop me a PM and I'll be happy to help out!

Our one and only cruise experience was in 1985...does that count?

It was on a Carnival ship, ports of call St. Maarten (had to bypass), St. Thomas, and Nassau. Some of the things I remember which might help, I'll try to list. Others can correct if some of these tidbits have changed.

Can you say suncreen? I don't know if you've been that far south before, but the sun gets pretty intense. Very intense.

As soon as you walk on the ship, you will be asked about every five seconds by a small army of waiters if you want a drink. Problem is, the only drinks that are free are milk, coffee, and tea (and possibly fruit juice). Any sodas or alcoholic drinks cost money (and that includes your main meal seatings).

Make sure you budget for tips. This may have been covered in your brochures. At the very least, expect to tip your cabin boy/girl, waiter/waitress, and bus boy. Our cabin boy was so good, the room was immaculate all the time, and we never saw him until the last day when he was collecting tips. He earned every penny. And about the tips, everyone we had to wait on us went 110% to make us happy. My wife made a nice comment about a potato dish at dinner one night, our bus boy overheard her, and he brought three servings for her!

There's a lot of acitivities on the ship each day you're at sea. Enjoy them. I won a trophy at a trivia contest (a very small trophy). My wife and I went to a basic class for ballroom dancing. We had a great time!

Did you know they use filtered sea water for the pools on cruise ships? At least ours did.

If your ship has massages, sign up as soon as possible if you want one (they cost extra). The list usually fills fast.

That's all I can think of right now. Like I said, this was in 1985, and on a Carnival line ship. Things may have changed since then. Have fun!

My wife and I honeymooned on a Carnival cruise and had a blast! Plenty of activities. One thing we discovered was the joy of room service breakfast. We left our order hooked on our cabin door at night and barely had to crawl out of bed for breakfast in the morning. The price of the food was covered, of course, so we only had to throw in a tip.

Also, we vacationed for a week in Cozumel once, and I can tell you that the national park/beach there is great for snorkeling. We also took a short excursion to the mainland to see the Chichen Itza ruins near Piste. The temple was spectacular.

Have a great time!

Thanks for all your help...I love hearing about past experiences...

The only time we down "south"...was last thanksgiving (01') we stayed at Beaches Inn at Jamaica.....it was wonderful but man was that sun hott....

  BRER STITCH....I guess thats the down fall or the whole "all-included" thing...  I can't wait to read your trip report....

I'm a little nervous...about the sea sickness thing....we've been on boats before....like on snorking trips and what not....so I don't think I'll be too bad....I'll definatley get the Bonine though....

GenerationX...were thinking about doing the same...the ruins in Cozumel....but we hear the snorkling is great there too....since we're not going to Grand Cayman....we might switch things up...hit the Mayan ruins tour at Progresso...and snorkle at Cozumel...:veryconfu

Thanx for all the help!! Like I said..I love hearing of past cruises...thanks again...

I went on a cruise around the Hawaiian islands in July of 2001. It was a blast! Make sure you bring nice clothes if there is going to be a formal dinner. If your ship has a photographer taking pictures, be sure and check them out because they turn out awesome. I have a great one of me and my cousin and we had some nice family shots taken. Take advantage of any activities they have. Day trips, stuff to do onboard, etc. My cousins were 5 and 7 at the time and did stuff with the kid's group and had a blast. My brother and I didn't check out the teen group, but it probably would have been fun, we just chose to stick together and with our family. I agree with whoever said to bring clothes a little bit bigger for later in the week because there's ALWAYS something to eat and you do gain some weight.

Hey Disneydudette!!

Don't worry about the whole sea sickness thing....not many people get sick on cruises.....if you do get sick..try green apples...I've been on two cruises and on my first we did hit pretty big swells I got pretty sick but I still dragged myself to dinner...when our waiter asked what was wrong with me I told him I wasn't feeling well so he came back with a big silver bowl of green apples...I ate one and within a half an hour I felt fine...I know it sounds silly but if your on the cruise and feel sick just try it...it may work for you too!!! :)
