Part 1 - Travel

We were up at 3am on Jan 17th to catch a 6:30am flight. DDRey and DDBelle were up pretty quickly, but DSBuzz was pretty much "why are we waking up in the middle of the night?", LOL. I had actually gotten some sleep (went to bed around 11pm), which NEVER happens the night before we leave on a trip. You know, DH packs his little bag and goes to bed at 9pm while I am packing for myself, three littles, every climate possible and every illness/injury that could happen on planet Earth, so... Plus, both DDs have food allergies (epipens, Benadryl, etc.) and DDBelle has asthma so we've got the nebulizer, albuterol, budesonide, prednisone - essentially we are a walking pharmacy, haha!!

Anyway, we all got ready and were out the door and pulling out of the driveway in record time (for us!) - 1 hour and 15 minutes.

We got to the airport and it was cold, as in, subzero temps before the windchill (I think it was -6F and around -25F with the windchill), but we didn't want to lug our heavy winter coats with us, so we just dressed in layers with jackets and wore our hats and gloves. Besides, it was a little chilly in FL that day, so we figured we'd want our hats and gloves that evening anyway.

We dropped off our bags (already checked in online) and went to security. The line was pretty short - we had about a 10 minute wait. While we were in line DS looks out the window and notices the planes all parked at the gates and begins shouting "Mommy! Look! Look! Airplane!" He was so excited. We told him he was going on an airplane, but really, what does a not quite 3 year old know about riding an airplane when they have never been?? He just kept shouting and getting louder. As we were in the security lane, I kept trying to keep him somewhat quiet, but then one of the planes moved. OMG, it was like all his dreams in life came true and he went NUTS! Jumping up and down and screaming and laughing and shouting and pointing. Everyone in the security area became silent as they tried to see what on earth would cause any kid to become so loud and crazy. At least the family next to us thought it was amusing. Other people, not so much  I finally convinced him to talk about something else, and he did quiet down.

After we went through the podium, I told the girls to do exactly as we had practiced - DDRey was to take out one of our baggies of liquids and put them in a bin, along with her Mickey bag. DDBelle was supposed to take out her nebulizer and put it in a bin along with her Mickey bag. DH was supposed to take DS through security and I had the camera bag, snacks and another bag of liquids to separate (plus shoes and my jacket and DS's Mickey bag and my carryon). I have traveled a lot, especially for work, and getting stuck behind a family that has no clue or just isn't prepared was always annoying, so I tried NOT to be that family and had practiced with both DDs before our trip. Of course, everything went out the window and both of them were asking me 5000 questions about WHY do they have to do this and "Can't we just...?" No, no you can't just do whatever it is you want. Just please do what we practiced so we can get out of security. "But, what about..." and "Mom, I want to hold my ticket" and "Can we eat snacks before we get on the plane?"

In a panic as I see everyone behind us standing there waiting as our family took up the entire belt area, I just grabbed a stack of bins, layed them out on the belt and started throwing things into them while pushing each member of my family through the metal detector just to get them the heck out, LOL. Then, when I got through, the kids were arguing on which stuff was theirs and whatever, so I said "Everything is MINE. I paid for it and it's mine. You get whatever I hand you and you will carry it to the benches and we will sort it out there." Which is exactly what I did. Not really sure how I was able to carry 5 bins and 4 bags, but I guess it was the Disney adrenaline or something, LOL.

Once that all got sorted out, we got to our gate and everyone calmed down. DS was content to stare out the window at the plane that was parked there and the girls were interested in some activity books in their Mickey bags. I had to take our tickets to the counter to exchange them for pre-board passes and peanut allergy alerts for the girls. I wasn't really sure how that all worked since we had never flown SW before, but had read online that I would be able to get onboard first and wipe down the seats for the girls and that they would only hand out pretzels instead of peanuts for a snack on the flight. We have flown Delta before and they had a similar policy, but the flight attendants were pretty obnoxious about it and got on the intercom to complain to the rest of the flight that because of us, they couldn't hand out peanuts. It was embarrassing and especially for DDRey, she hates any attention brought to her because of her allergies since it is usually ignorance and/or negativity and she has dealt with it for so many years she just wishes it would go away.

Anyway, when it was time to board, we were let on first and they actually told my DH and DS to go ahead and board with us to make sure we could sit together as a family, which was really nice considering on Delta they would only allow one parent to preboard, which was weird considering we had assigned seats anyway.

We got onboard but they were boarding people right after us, so trying to wipe down seats while people are trying to get in and sit down was a bit of a hassle - and something that happened on every flight. I wish they would give us at least 5-10 minutes so my kids aren't having to move from seat to seat and blocking the aisle while I wipe down everything as people are trying to board, but what can you do?

We got settled in our seats - DDRey was at the window, I was in the middle, DDBelle was in the aisle and then in front of us DS sat by the window with DH in the middle. The plane started to move and DS resumed his excited state and began shouting again. I reminded him we were on a plane and other people don't want to hear him shout. So, he shouted in a whisper instead, which I found really funny, but it was probably not as funny to other people, haha. Then the plane stopped because it had to be de-iced. At which, DS starts shouting out loud "Mommy! Plane is BROKEN! It not going!" I told him it wasn't broken, we just had to wait for them to clean the plane. He was fine with that, but then when the truck drove to our side and started spraying the plane, he thought this was really fun and laughed and laughed. Then the truck moved on to the next section of the plane and he starts shouting "Wait! My truck! My truck is LEAVING!" Thank goodness it only took a few more minutes before we started moving again. Pretty sure most of the people on the plane were relieved when my very excited son finally calmed down.

26733744_10155221709540267_3529065997054429375_n.jpg

As we took off, DS was mesmerized by staring out the window, DDRey got out some assigned reading for school and DDBelle got out her math homework. The flight crew offered pretzels, but didn't say anything about peanuts until someone near us asked about them and she just told them "We don't have any for this flight." It was a great relief to not be called out in front of the whole plane or to be treated as an annoyance by the flight crew!

Our flight was pretty short but we were still late. When we got off the plane and got to our next gate it was already about to start boarding. This flight had some computer issues, so we sat at the gate for quite awhile. When we finally got in the air, everyone kind of took turns snoozing, except for DS. He was still staring out the window. No one asked about peanuts, so once again we were relieved that it was a non issue. Our flight was about an hour and a half and then we had a stop (but we didn't need to get off). We had about 20 minutes before the next group of passengers would start boarding, so we had some snacks, cleaned up and then DS started to get really whiny and grumpy. He hadn't slept at all and he normally takes a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon. For a 2 year old to be up at 3am and eight hours later still be awake, he was doing pretty good. We finally convinced him to put his head down and he fell asleep for most of the last leg of the flight. Good thing too, because he woke up later super happy and refreshed! The rest of us also dozed off a bit.

We landed in Orlando about 2pm, about an hour late. We got on the tram at MCO to the main terminal, which was another amazing experience for DS. When we got off, we saw the Disney store and DS went bonkers for the fake Mickey. For a 2 year old to ride in a plane for the first time, take a "train" and then there is a Mickey Mouse bigger than you, well, I think he pretty much thought that WAS Disney World. Seriously, the kid lost it. He ran up to Mickey, kissed him, tickled him, tried to hug him, laughed and well, you'd think he lived in a cave and never got out much. He was just THAT excited. Neither of my girls were ever that excited over anything at that age, so it was a whole new experience for me! Although, they thought it was hilarious that their little brother was so excited over a plastic statue. :hilarious:

We got it through Tusker's but for breakfast. We ate at Rainforest for dinner. I sent an email to Disney about our great service at the Plaza and included a comparison to Rainforest. They got back to me and said they would have someone contact me this week to go over all the details about the bad service at Rainforest.

Thank you for following!
Ok got it! Glad you contacted Disney. What happened at Rainforest is unacceptable.

Part 9 - The Weirdest Ride, Movietime/Naptime & Disappearing Joy

When lunch was over, the lines for most rides were pretty long, but we had an FP for Journey into Imagination with Figment. We have never done this ride and I had heard that the original was better, then there was a new version everyone seemed to hate and then they semi- returned it back but it was still missing all the good parts from the original. I have no idea - but we decided to try it. While we were waiting to be let through the FP, the Castmember gave a stuffed Figment to DS. It was just meant for him to hold, but, try telling that to a 2 year old! When she asked for it back, he gave it to her, assuming she was going to give it back to him. When she didn't, he was about 1 nanosecond from having a meltdown, but we distracted him by telling him we had to get on the ride and we couldn't take Figment on the ride. He was okay with that. I know she meant well, but it's obvious she is young and doesn't have kids - you don't give them a toy to hold, LOL!

26904569_10155235095835267_5720656201772555873_n.jpg

Anyway, we get on the ride and the girls were intrigued. DS was looking all around and interested by what he saw, but as the ride went on, the girls had a confused look, DH was like "WTH is this?" and DS was starting to go into that "I'm about to pass out from exhaustion" trance. When it ended, the DDRey says "That was the WEIRDEST ride I have ever been on in my life. I don't even know what I just witnessed." DDBelle said "I like the ride with the plants better." At least when we got out we were able to go into the interactive area. DS loved being able to run around and the girls liked the conducting stations. Then we went to the store where there were stuffed Figments. I thought DS would want one, but he saw the playsets of various Disney characters instead and wanted one of those. He loved the girls' Mickey ears at home, so I tried to get him to pick one of those, but he said "I wear my sissy's." Okay. We didn't want to lug around a box of a bunch of Disney action figures, so we tried to get him to pick up something small that he could carry. Nope, he didn't want any of them, just the boxes of figures (he couldn't decide between Nemo and Toy Story). I got an FP for the Disney/Pixar Short Film Festival and told him we were going to go watch cartoons, so he put down the box and we headed out.

So, I don't really know why they have FPs for shows like D/P Short Film Festival, Frozen Sing a Long, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Mickey's PhilharMagic and some others. There is no FP seating, so you use your FP only to walk into the same room and go in at the same time as everyone else. It serves no purpose, but anyway... So, we used our FP and went in and a lot of people were sitting on the floor. It's an incline, which makes it very hard to stand for very long, especially while holding an increasingly sleepy 2 year old. After a couple of minutes, they announced that everyone had to stand up. We mistakenly thought that meant we would be going in soon. Nope, they were about to play a 12 minute video. A few people sat back down, but a CM walked through and told them to stand up, or if they wanted to, they could exit. Kind of annoying. They said it was to make sure everyone could fit, but there was no line out the door or anything and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit/stand as they pleased.

27067336_10155235095840267_3603420069783837112_n.jpg

After the video they finally opened the doors. As I said, an FP was pointless as we were no where near the doors and you know how well people listen to the instructions to go all the way to the end of the row . We had to keep moving back row by row until we got one where people moved down far enough that we were not going to be stuck at the very end. We sat down and I am prettty sure before the first movie even began, DS was fast asleep. The rest of us enjoyed the shows. DDRey loves old school Mickey cartoons so she loved that they incorporated some of that into one of the shorts.

When the show was over, we weren't sure what to do, since DS was fast asleep, with no signs of waking up. I found an FP for Living with the Land, so we decided to head over to the Land Pavilion and ride that. DH would sit outside the building with DS in his stroller and relax. We got on the ride quickly. I have ridden this probably 4 or 5 times and I do enjoy it, but all the long days finally caught up with me. I fell asleep! The girls thought this was hilarious and tried to take my camera to get a picture (they failed, however!). Good thing there are no ride pics on that one, LOL.

After that, we headed over to see if we could catch Baymax and Joy & Sadness. We walked over there and DS woke up just as we were about to get in line to see Joy & Sadness. He was refreshed and excited to see them (well, mostly Joy, he said he didn't want to see Sadness, LOL). We got in line. It was a short line, but barely moved. One of the dads in front of us left the line to go around where you could see them interacting. After a few minutes, he comes back and says "No wonder the line doesn't move. They're having a playdate with every kid that goes in there. Twirling around and talking and stuff. Let's go do something else." Well, for me, that means two things - people will leave and our wait will be less, and, we will have a great interaction! So, we decided to wait it out. We waited for about 20 minutes and then the CM came and said that they were going on a break. The line was still short - only two families behind us, but there was no one in line for Baymax, so we decided to pop over there while Joy & Sadness were on break.

DS thought Baymax was pretty funny, but mostly, he just kept calling him a balloon and wanted to squeeze him, LOL. The girls thought he was adorable, but didn't know what to do because he is limited in his ability to interact. They couldn't help but crack up when he tried to walk.

EPCOT_BIGHERO6CHAR_20180120_408195602171.jpg

Anyway, we looked over and saw Sadness was back out, so we walked over to get back in line. The two families who had been behind us said "FYI, Joy isn't coming out now, so we are leaving." I didn't know if that meant she was done for the day or just for awhile. We waited in line until the CM came over to get the next family and I asked about Joy. She said Joy would be back, but there was an emergency in the control room. Okay... How long was this emergency going to take? We had ADRs in an hour. She was sure it would be fixed in no time. So, we waited. 15 minutes goes by. No Joy. There is only one family in front of us now. When the CM came to get the family in front of us, she had them stop and wait for a minute and there was Joy! Yay, she was back! The family has their time and then the CM comes back to get us. She says "Just so you know, it's only Sadness at this time." What? Where did Joy go? Was there another emergency in the control room? The CM said Joy was done for the day. I asked the girls if they wanted to just meet Sadness or try the next day to meet both. Since DS and DH weren't going to be there the next day, they opted to go ahead and meet Sadness. However, DS was not thrilled. Of all the characters, he really did NOT want to meet her! I asked him why and he said "Because hers crying everywhere!" I said "Well, you know Buddy, she's SAD. Maybe you should make her feel better." He tells me "No because she makes all the mess " *he sighs dramatically (his sisters taught him well)* "she's a problem." Not going to lie, I thought it was funny. But, he still didn't want her anywhere near him, so I didn't press him. The girls kept trying to get him to give her a hug. The closest thing we got was this:

EPCOT_INSIDEOUTCHAR_20180120_408196441710.jpg

He finally cooperated for a family photo:

EPCOT_INSIDEOUTCHAR_20180120_408196441712.jpg

As we left, we heard a bunch of people yell "Joy!". We looked over and Joy had come out to greet the next family. We didn't have time to go back to the line and as soon as people yelled her name, a bunch of people hopped in line so we left. The girls and I planned to try her the next day.

We walked over to Mexico where we had ADRs for San Angel Inn. We saw there was a short line for Donald, so we hopped in line. As we got there, he was taking a break, but then DS saw his feet from below the gate and cracked up. "Donald Duck, FEET!" He pointed at the gate and then the gate opened and he stops laughing and with big eyes he says "Woah." He knew just what to do and started grabbing his autograph book from us and led the way to the #1 Duck. After he handed him his book, he started running around him in circles, pointing at his feet and laughing, turning and looking at us and shouting "Donald DUCK!" While Donald was interacting with the girls, DS starts going over and trying to tickle Donald's feet. Donald starts stomping and chasing him and he starts laughing so hard, he chokes, LOL. The kid had tears coming out of his eyes, he was laughing so hard! He was so wound up, he wouldn't stand still for a pic, so Donald had to hold him in place, LOL.

EPCOT_WSMEX_20180120_408199577106.jpg

EPCOT_WSMEX_20180120_408199577118.jpg

By that time, there was quite a line and I kept trying to get DS to move on, but he and Donald kept chasing each other for a bit before we finally convinced him we needed to leave. Sorry for everyone behind us:oops:

We went into the Mexican Pavilion and checked in for dinner. We were sitting and waiting in the little area before you step down into the restaurant and behind us was a fence type wall. There was a little boy running around on the other side. A CM had tried telling him he couldn't play there, but his mom didn't seem to care. He came over to us and DS looks through the bars and says "You in jail. Policeman gonna get you." The little boy stuck his tongue out at DS. He turns and looks at me with this shocked look and then a manager and the CM who had repeatedly told the boy not to play there came over and said to the mom "Ma'am, this spot is for scooters and wheelchairs, he can't play over here. If he doesn't stop playing here, we will have to ask you to leave. The little boy looks at us and DS squinted his eyes and says "Policeman get you." It was a little creepy, but kind of funny - then again, it wasn't DS getting told the Policeman is going to get him from some other creepy kid. Note to self - maybe DS needs to stop playing with his Mickey Mouse police car for a bit...

So, after DS stopped being a creepy tattle tale, we got our table and sat down. It's very dark, which kind of bothers me because I can't see if my food is cooked well. However, I like the food there, so it doesn't bother me enough to skip it, haha! I had the carne asada, DH usually gets the chicken mole, but he couldn't with the girls there, so instead he got some kind of taco like dish (I forget the name now). DS got a cheese quesadilla (which he never ate), DDRey got the steak tacos, which she devoured and DDBelle got grilled chicken and rice. Everyone who ate their food thought it was delicious. DDBelle took two bites and said she was full. DS eventually ate the fruit (mostly picked out the papaya and ate that), but he never touched his quesadilla.

After dinner, we debated on whether we wanted to leave or stay to watch the fireworks. The crowd that day and that evening was increasingly less family friendly and since DH, DDBelle and I had already seen IllumiNations, we decided to head out early. We did ride the Gran Fiesta Tour first. We ended up having to give a statement to management/security due to a group of 5 young adults in the boat in front of us jumping off their boats and onto the sets along the ride and then three of them getting out before the exit and climbing over the railing and running out. They were all clearly quite inebriated. Something I didn't mention along this day was that it was the Arts Festival and multiple times we came across incredibly drunk people. When we walked to the meet and greet for Baymax & Joy/Sadness, a woman fell into me and almost knocked me to the ground. She then continued walking and falling into others. When we were waiting to ride Living with the Land, two couples were shouting in slurred speech and one of the women started vomiting. When DH, DDRey and DS ran over to Germany to grab some pretzels earlier in the day, DDBelle and I were sitting on a bench and two guys came and pushed us off because they could not stand up - they were so drunk. Lots of people smoking in non smoking areas too - most of them were drunk, so they didn't care that they were not in the right area. Not exactly the Disney environment we go to see with our family. We had never seen Epcot like that before. It was all day long, not just in the evening. Kind of disappointing.

Anyway, we stopped at MouseGears and picked up the Toy Story figure set for DS as his souvenir for his trip. He couldn't wait to get back to the room and open it up!

I felt like we accomplished a lot with a 2 year old in one day and overall, we had a good time. We even made it back to our room by 9pm. We all took showers and were in bed by 10pm. The boys would be leaving the next day. The girls and I would be heading back to Epcot for our trip around the World Showcase.

OMG! I am so glad I am not the only one that notices how “unfamily friendly” Epcot gets the later it gets. It is really a shame. It is very noticeable in WS the later it gets. We were in the Germany area later last year and I went in the ladies restroom and it was full of loud, obnoxious drunks! We are going again in March & I was considering an ADR at Tokyo Dining to watch Illuminations, but now thinking it might be better to get out of there. I recall lots of people drinking in the vicinity of the big Japan store, while I waited for my teens to finish browsing. They didn’t seem bothered by it, but it was very obvious to me. Not what you want at Disney. We had the same experience you had w/Joy and Sadness. It was very late at night. There were EMHs & I swear I thought we would never get thru that meet n greet. Just like you, there were not that many people, but the line did not move. They ought to post a sign warning that it is a sloooow meet n greet! We loved the original Figment back in the day. It felt like back then that it was one of the few things that little kids could really enjoy at Epcot. So sorry they’ve changed it. I had an original Figment, but gave him away years ago. What was I thinking!!! Great TR, glad y’all are having fun!

I didn't get a chance to continue the TR the last few days - dance competition season, church commitments, work commitments, birthdays, school projects and lots of snow have derailed my availability for free time! I'm hoping to get back into it tonight!
I hear ya! We are in competition mode here in TX too. Will be glad when we are done. My daughter is a junior in high school & on a Brigade team. She did a solo weekend before last. Glad she got that done. Enjoying your TR.

I know that Epcot is more geared towards adults, but honestly, as an almost 40 year old woman, I don't want to be in that environment either. I want to enjoy the food and drinks too, but how can you enjoy it when someone is vomiting near you. Had a friend of mine say she went during the Food & Wine Festival and she had to go to three bathrooms before she found one that didn't smell like vomit from all the drunk people. I think the weekends are probably worse, which is when we went, but still. Epcot needs to do something to make sure it doesn't continue to escalate - especially since they keep extending events and adding new ones. It was bad for us in the afternoon, I can't imagine what it's like by the time the park closes! We didn't stay either of our days there - and Epcot used to be my favorite

I'm so thankful I've never experienced the drunk people at Epcot. I've been to two Food & Wine Festivals and one Flower and Garden Festival and never saw a drunk person. I'm hoping my luck continues with the Flower and Garden Festival next month *knocking on wood* lol. And I agree that the line for Joy and Sadness was sooooooo slow! It was just me and my husband and they took plenty of time with us too. It was a great interaction but we had to wait over an hour. It also seemed like they were taking a more breaks than usual, which I found strange because they are in AC.

We have never experienced it before this trip either! But, this last year seems that I have heard a lot more complaints from friends who have gone. I can't recall if they were only there on the weekends or not. We were there on a Saturday and Sunday, so that might make it worse, not sure. I hope you have a better experience when you go! I really want to go to the Food & Wine festival sometime, but I am leaning against it now =(

Are we allowed to go off topic on our own TR? LOL, I plan to put in another entry tonight about our second day at Epcot, but I just booked a trip to a special event at Universal that just so happens to take place on DDRey's 11th birthday. We are going to surprise her (okay, well, DH didn't want to go, so it's just me, but anyway...). I can't wait! She is a HUGE HP fan and so am I. I've already been, but we have avoided that park with the girls because in the past they were not so good with allergies and a lot of people tend to eat the peanut butter ice cream they have there (which looks like vanilla from afar) and when it is hot, it drips everywhere. I swear it was on everything when we were there. We were stressed when we were there by ourselves thinking about all the possible contact for our kids so we stayed away. But she is older now and is very diligent (and I swear she has a 6th sense of these things, as you will see in the rest of my TR) so going with just her, I think we should be okay -although I will still be worried like crazy and probably pack 10 epipens and 10 boxes of Benadryl and a case of disinfectant wipes, and maybe some latex gloves and a surgical mask and well, why not throw in some bubble wrap for good measure, but other than that, we'll be fine :hilarious:

Okay, back to my TR...

I've always avoided the Festivals on the weekends because of the horror stories. I schedule our Epcot day on Tuesdays hoping it's less crowded (and less drinking) from those visiting on long weekends. I'm doing the same this trip so fingers crossed!! If you want to go to Food and Wine definitely try it during the day during the middle of the week. It's such a fun festival and we've always enjoyed it. Probably won't go back for a while because we just have bad luck traveling in September and October :)

I finished another entry last night, but then our internet connection dropped and I lost the entire thing! Ugh... Now I have to write it all over again! LOL, there needs to be a voice activation so I can just tell the story and it will post for me :banghead::arghh:
