You will get a medal if you finish...so aslong as you can maintain the 16 per minute pace then you shouldn't have an issue. Just make sure you've trained for it and you'll be all set. It's really a great race.

The guys at WDW Today do the marathon scene, and have some great podcasts on the topic. I'd definitely check them out.

I've always wanted to run the half marathon, but I can never get down there for just a weekend. The cost of the airline tickets is just always too prohibitive.

You should write a thread about it if you decide to go!

I ran it back in 2007. Here are my observations.

Good parts:

* It's mostly flat.
* You see parts of the parks and surrounding area most guests don't.
* Running down Main Street in MK with people cheering is really fun.
* You will get a medal if you finish.
* Temperature in January is usually pretty good.

Not so good:

* There are a lot of runners (~15,000).
* It starts early.
* It's still a marathon.

Outside of the logistics with my work and family, I would do it again.

My dad is a marathon runner, and he runs it almost every year. It is his favorite one to run. He said it goes faster because of all the Disney scenery around you. He loves running through the castle, which is where the photographer takes your picture. He got second place for his age group last time he ran, which was a Donald Duck medal, and he had it framed w/the photo. I don't know how generally difficult it is to place. There are a lot of runners & a lot of competition, so just train train train! :)

The cons are that you really have to be on the ball and register the minute it opens. He has gotten shut out before because it's so popular. The other con is that family can't watch you run in the parks - nobody is allowed in the parks but the runners. My mom & I like to wait at the finish of his races but we couldn't there. Not many cons though! Many more pro's!

I have signed up for the half in 2010. Pretty excited for it. Like people have noted, you get a donald medal for the half, a mickey for the full, or both and a Goofy if you sign up for the Goofy Challenge (you must finish to get the medal). Just make sure to keep up a 16 minute pace and you shouldn't be swept. If you haven't, i would sign up as quick as possible. The Goofy Challenge is already 75% full for 2010, and normally the half is full by March. Now if your only doing the full, there is a little time, as I have read it normally doesn't fill till later in the year.

I'm also considering signing up for the half marathon - it would be my first, and my mom and I would move our Ladies' Vacation back a month so I could have at least one fan in my cheering section! I've been slack about registering though; I sprained my ankle pretty badly a few weeks ago, and it's hard for me to remember a race when I can't even run a few steps to get out of rain. :)

Marathon

I came back from our vacation at Disney about a month ago (which was during the marathon) and after seeing the excitement and the support, there was no way I could pass signing up for at least the half. I would say if your thinking about it, do it!!!! From what everyone I have talked to says, this is one of the best marathons to run (except for the crowds). I mean, how many times are you "legally" going to get to run through the Castle, or for that, the parks!!!! Disney is also pretty generous on their pace times. 16 minute miles makes it were pretty much you could walk briskly if needed and still aviod the sweepers. Hope to see all runners and walkers down there in 2010!!!!

Oh, and dont forget, you have to be at the bus stops at like 2:45 or 3am. Who doesn't love waking up that early in the morning!!! hmmmmmmmm.

Ok.. since I am sort of a grammar nut, the title of this blog was bugging me. So I had to look it up.
The perfect tense of the verb to run
present | imperfect | perfect

I have run we have run
you have run you have run
he has run they have run

So the question should be "Who has run the marathon race"

and my answer is ... not me.... lol ... or is it not I ??? Oh, no.. now I have to go look that up, too!

I am not a runner. My brother suggested we run the half marathon. I trained very little. He had a scheduling conflict (was sent to Singapore!) and I was not going to do it alone. A week before, I figured I would go and get my shirt, and figured "What the heck, I could use the exercise." So, I got up early, went to the park, and had a great time! I ran about two miles, walked the rest of the way, until Epcot, and ran to the finish. I would not recommend going in cold like I did, but it is not a fast pace.

This year, we did the Tower of Terror 13K (yes, me brother made it down!). I trained moderately, and walked about half of the route, but it is shorter, at night, and the Studio is open for racers and guests (yes, your family can come in - with a ticket) to ride the E-tickets.

I worked the day of the Marathon, and had many participants thank me for how organized and well run the race was. Whichever race you run, I know you'll have a great time!

Well...

I ran the marathon in 2005.

I have run several marathons.

The Walt Disney World Marathon is by far the best organized and most enjoyable of all the major races I have run thus far.

I encourage anyone who enjoys exercise or who is looking for a challenge to experience WDW from this totally unique perspective.

You are correct. Run = present tense. I run because I like it.
Ran = simple past tense. I ran a marathon yesterday
However, there is past participle =run. I have run a marathon.
He has run a marathon in the past.
He had run the marathon twice.
For the complete rule on this, please check: http://grammartips.homestead.com/pastparticiples.html

By the way, I apologize for starting "off topic" comments. I hope you got your marathon questions answered.
