Who else here prefers a stay at a Value Resort versus a Deluxe?

One of my favorite things about the value and moderate resorts is the food court. I miss having a variety of food choices when I stay at the deluxe resorts.
Yes. The theming, landscaping, comfort, fine dining, and proximity to parks all favor the deluxe resorts. Pricing and casual dining favor the moderate and value resorts.

No question on landscaping, comfort, fine dining, and proximity to the parks.

But I would say that for theming, it depends on the people. Many people like the more "in your face" Disney theming of the values. For us, traveling with small children, the theming of the values holds far more appeal than the deluxes.

Never stayed Deluxe. The price is what does it for us. We have stayed at CBR, POFQ, POP, AoA, and ASsports. Our favorite Moderate so far is the FQ because of size, accessibility to Riverside, the boat to DD, & the main pool. Our favorite value is POP. Dedicated bus line, huge food court, & ability to jump on AoA's bus when POP's is too busy.

My issue with the "values" is.......just too many people. I can look the other way at the baseball teams, cheer squads, and the like (even though a coach/chaperone once on a previous trip knocked on my door to announce "lights out"....imagine his surprise)

Values are very hectic. A lot of movement, overcrowded food courts, long bus lines, usually a room that is a cab ride away from the main hall. When you could get a value for $80 - okay I get it. But now plunking down a buck fifty a night for the privilege of staying at a "value"........The "value" doesn't seem much of a value anymore.

Excluding the costs of a value resort versus a deluxe resort, the reason I mostly stay at a value resort is because of the theme. I don't mind the buses, and I don't mind the crowds. I absolutely love love love the theme of the value resorts. My absolute favorite are the Movies and staying in 101 Dalmatians or the Mighty Ducks.

Maybe it is because of the simplicity and slight cheesiness of it all, but when I get to that hotel first thing, it puts me back into my 12 year old self's shoes and I get super excited.

Don't get me wrong though. I have nothing against a Deluxe resort. They are cool in their own right, but I prefer an All-Star stay. :joyfull:

Anyone else?
ASM was the first disney resort we ever stayed at. we liked it from the get go & stayed there quite often.
i enjoy the grounds, larger than life statues, the CM’s are always great. every experience we’ve had there was great.
we’ve stayed moderate a few time & will be at the FQ later this year. i wouldn’t hesitate going to ASM again.
on a side note, i’m happy to hear the rooms will be getting refurbished this year. they’re a bit overdue

Mmmm.... Would I'd rather eat at V&A or Burger King....
I would not want to eat at either every time. Some times, I'm in the mood for and willing to spend the money for fine dining. Other times, I am in the mood for fast food and want to spend very little for a meal.

The wide variety of resorts at WDW all have pros and cons that go beyond the straight forward issue of price.

I love the expansive grounds at the moderate resorts. It's great to just walk around the lake at Coronado Springs for example.

Higher priced resorts have monorail access, or walking access to certain parks. That's a huge benefit.

Pop Century and Art of Animation have theming that is the most "Disney".

Nothing unusual about preferring a resort that happens to cost less than others on property.

I'm sorry but no, no, no, no, no. Yes the values are just that-- a value-- and they do have some cool theming at Pop Century and Art Of Animation but the moderates and deluxe hotels are way more better than the values. I have stayed at Pop Century twice, Dolphin once, Beach Club-- about to be twice, and Bay Lake Tower once, with a stay at Grand Floridian coming. You think I'm gonna ever want to stay at Pop again? It's part of the reason I joined the DVC so I could stay at the deluxe resorts in a more affordable way for a long while. I hope the original poster of this thread was joking. If they aren't, then I don't know then. I mean yeah, Pop was cool till I found out about the other hotels, now--unless I've been invited on a Disney trip and I'm not the one paying or in charge of making accommodations, then no way in heck I am ever gonna be at a value again. They give you your money's worth but they are also very lacking in other things compared to the moderates and deluxes. Now I also understand some people may never be able to afford a deluxe in their life and so yes, the values and moderates are a plenty but even if I wasn't a part of the DVC, I'd still save and save and then splurge on at least a moderate or go all the way and go deluxe. The values just aren't all that. They are like those big chain motels that have a pool and a food court, but it's just that--a value. You don't have any special restaurants or a marketplace to buy a few groceries and it's just lacking compared to the amenities you get at the moderates/deluxes.
Geez. No need to get your panties in a wad just because someone has a different preference that you don't agree with  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Maybe value resorts work the best for the OP.

In the Parks
No
As I have grown, my opinions have changed greatly. Before my wife and I had kids, when we went to an amusement park, we were in the park from rope drop until they basically kicked us out at night. At that time, all I needed was a place to get a few hours of sleep each night and I didn't care what the room was like or the amenities that were at the hotel. At that point, the price was always the driving factor.

Now, as I am older and have kids, I find I spend a LOT more time at the hotel. As such, having nicer amenities, having a bigger room, and having more at the hotel becomes much more important to me. Additionally, with kids, being closer to the parks becomes a much greater value both in regards to the fact that you are back and forth between the parks more often and it's much easier to get sleeping kids back to the room at the end of the night.

Certainly pros and cons to both and certainly reasons (even beyond cost) to want various levels.

I have not stayed at a deluxe resort before, but I have stayed at both value and moderate. I personally prefer Art of Animation to Port Orleans Riverside, for example.

Different strokes for different folks and all that...

And I wasn't talking about Pop. I was talking about the All-Star Movies. Guess I don't have a champagne taste, even if I did, it would be Champagne taste with a Pepsi-Cola pocketbook.

Agreed on both counts.

I'm not sure why it is so difficult to understand that the same things do not appeal to everyone, even if they are perceived as being some how objectively "better" or "worse."

The Grand Floridian, for example, is considered Disney's flagship resort. I understand that by many measures, it is considered to be the "best" on property. Yet it holds no appeal to me at all. The theming, the atmosphere, everything is way too "stuffy" for my tastes. Even if I had an unlimited budget, that wouldn't be my resort choice. Others love it, and that's fine.

For me, having a large room doesn't matter, because I'm a single gal. I also don't have a lot of money, so deluxe rooms are out--for now, anyway. Someday I would love to have a room in the main building of the Contemporary. Some years, I can't afford to get out of Orlando, so I have a short staycation at a theme park hotel. I've stayed at both values and moderates. I've generally liked the values better. They are more fun, with their giant architecture. Sometimes, I end up in my room a lot, or I explore the grounds of the hotel, because the theme parks aren't exactly a vacation to me, seeing as I go to them so often during the rest of the year. I just really love staying at hotels, and even the rooms at value hotels are cool to me.
