Whispering Canyon Cafe Menu Change

If it's for lunch, I'd wait and see what the new menu brings. Personally, I never cared much for the a la carte options there. The skillet was very good though. Has there been any mention of breakfast changes? For that meal, I always go a la carte.
I am a big fan of WCC and always get the skillet myself. I'm not sure everyone in our party will feel the same. It all depends on what changes take place. Our reservation is October 24 for dinner so I am posting here to keep up with any info to alter our choice on keeping or canceling.

I am so glad I was able to get the skillet today for the last day. I knew today was going to be a good birthday. When our server told me what was on the new dinner I was bummed. Still debating about keeping my adr there for dinner tomorrow

What a shame. I can appreciate why Disney have made these changes but will not be going again as one of our party wouldn't eat the skillet and we never have a TS lunch at Disney (waste of sunshine and park time)

Well crap. We were supposed to have our rehearsal dinner at Whispering Canyon, but now we'll probably have to change it. While some people in our party will like the skillet, some definitely won't.

This is the story in the latest allears.net newsletter

Starting this week,
Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge will be changing its menus. The most notable change is that the famous "all you care to eat" skillet will no longer be available at lunch. At dinner, the skillet will become a "platter", that will include your choice of three of five meats offered (choose from ribs, chicken, sliced beef, fish, smoked sausage) plus four side dishes (mixed vegetables, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes and baked beans). If you order platter "refills," you can choose any of the meats even if they were not one of the original three that you chose. Cornbread will still be included, but salad is not. A dessert sampler will also be included with dinner. (The platter is NOT offered at lunchtime.)

Sounds to me as if they are only changing what is on the newly named "platter"
Meat choices and only for dinner. Not sure if this is the only thing on the meneu

Wait wait... am I understanding right what you just shared... dinner at WCC will now ONLY be the skillet? If so I'm not necessarily complaining... it's all we ever get when we go... but it seems like a silly change to me.

Are they definitely only offering the skillet at dinner? We are in the same boat as many having ADR but not everyone in the party would eat the skillet/platter. Can anyone enlighten us on the subject?

Yes, that is the heart of the change. Lunch no longer offers the skillet and dinner no longer offers the ala cart menu. Basically, WCC is now a table service buffet dinner like Ohana and the Garden Grill.

IMHO the "platter", formally know as the skillet, actually got a little better. I love the addition of fish, smoked sausage and the dessert sampler. But alas, change is rarely good for everyone.

They are without a shadow of a doubt, officially only offering the skillet for dinner. Whether they will bend the rules is yet to be seen.

I also always have ordered the skillet in the past but everyone in my party orders something other. I still have 4 weeks before I get there so I will hold my reservation a little longer

Oh wow I had no idea they had added to the platter... that definitely seems to make a little more sense. Like I said, when we do WCC the skillet was all we got anyway so no worries here! LOL

This will be our first year trying WCC, and were pretty much going for the skillet for dinner anyway. Not too sure about the fish (depends what it is DS wont touch fish or anything that has been within 5 feet of fish LOL) Once the menu is out and we can actually see the choices, then that will determine if I get voted down or not.

They will leave off anything you do not want.

From someone that goes to WC quite often (twice a year, total of 16 to 20 days)... this change makes VERY good sense.

WC does a VERY large Breakfast service... as I understand things? Both the wonderful skillet, and ALC items are retained. LUNCH at WC is lower volume - it made no sense to offer an All You Can Eat Skillet here. DINNER was primarily focused on Families, most of whom were looking for the Skillet.

I think this entire change represents a General Manager (in Consultation with his head chef) fine tuning his restaurant offerings to what actual guests WANT. I know the restaurant, and the menu change makes total sense. In fact, it's one of the few cases where I have seen a Restaurant GM do exactly the RIGHT thing, both for his Restaurant, AND his clientele.
How exactly is it the right thing? In almost every review I've seen of WCC, some people in the party ordered the skillet, and others didn't. Now, none of these parties will be satisfied at lunch/dinner, since someone will be stuck eating food they wouldn't have wanted.

Honestly, I think the new skillet sounds better than before, and I like how fish is a protein option now. But knowing that others in my party would hate the skillet (and I'd hate most of it as well), now WCC is basically ruled out as a dinner option.

Oh well. I guess I'll be sticking with Artist Point when I feel like dinner at WL - it's our favorite restaurant on property anyway. :D
