Which water park for a 4 year old?

We are going to WDW at the end of Jan 05 into the first week of Feb 05. For a 4 year old which water park is better Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach? Also would the time of year play a part in the decision?

We have gone to Blizzard and would like to try Typhoon if we go to a water park but were unsure for our daughter which would be better if either really is.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

At that time of the year the water parks usually go down for rehab. (one at a time) You will have to check the calendar to see what is going to be open at that time when they release the park schedules.

We did both with our 4 year, and I tended to think Typhoon Lagoon was better for her. But that might be b/c I personally liked TL better than BB. We were there at the beginning of September and the day we went to BB it was overcast, and that tended to make it a little cool. Psychologically, with all that faux-ice and cold water dripping on you, I was freezing the whole time and didn't really enjoy it. My husband loved it though. I thought that TL had more that my 4 year old enjoyed (she is quite daring as well). I also say that so many people mistakenly skip the waterparks - I think they were the most fun we had. Are you worried about the temp. when you go. I'm contemplating a trip in Feb 06 (we are getting ready to leave on 9/25 for 7 days at WL and I'm already planning our next trip!), but worry about being too cold for the waterparks.

Thanks Pam. That should help narrow it down for me.

We may not even go to one as the Polynesian pool will be awesome for my daughter. We can't wait!

We have been to Blizzard before my daughter was born and I thought the place had no shade which was a turn off for me. I wanted to try TL but was unsure if they had enough for kids as I heard it was smaller. But as Pam pointed out, my choice may be made for me by WDW.

As for the weather. We were there at the same time this year and about 1/2 the week was warm enough to swim in the pool at POR durring the day. Night it was too chilly. People stayed but we did not want our daughter in the pool when it got too cold. I figure on this trip the first warm day we will try to hit one that way if it is not warm any other day we would have gotten it out of the way.

Enjoy the WL that was our runner up choice for a resort for this trip. We chose the Polynesian for a few reasons one of which was the monorail access. It was tough doing buses to POR on the last trip with my daughter. The wait times were too long.

A friend of mine just got back from WDW a few weeks ago with her 4 kids (ages 16, 8, 5, & 3). She preferred TL because as you said, they seemed to have more for smaller kids. There is definitely more shade at TL, too.

I hope the weather cooperates. You NEVER know how it is going to be until that day. One day could be freezing and the next in the 70's or 80's. Barring any major cold front, you should be able to go at least one day.

Thanks, I hope it does too. Last time the weather was chilly to begin the week then hot in the middle and ended chilly.

My fingers will be crossed.

Wet is wet!

I will second (or fourth) TLas being a little quieter, definitely shadier and having more for the younger. With that said, I think your observation on the Poly is right on. The volcano pool has a fun slide and has a 0 walk in side. There is also the second "ordinary" pool. They call them "quiet" pools, but I always found that one to be noisier than the volcano.

Also, at the Poly volcano, you can have an adult beverage or two while she is enjoying the water.

Even though park hopping is not encouraged, it is also an easy walk to the GF pools. Their slide pool is on the Poly side of GF.

Thanks. I use to stay at the Poly as a kid and liked the look of the old slide better (though I have only seen the volcano in photos). The old one looked more natural.

What is a 0 walk in side?

Thanks,
Mike

I think Typhoon Lagoon is better for smaller children. Blizzard Beach is known for it's slides, which have height requirements. There is lots for smaller children to do at Typhoon Lagoon, between the wave pool, the kiddie area and the lazy river (as my son calls it). My son is 7 and has been to Typhoon Lagoon several times and loves it.

As for a 0 walk in side, they probably mean a zero depth entry to the pool, which means you start walking into the pool from the side and it gets deeper and deeper the further you go.

Thanks. If they do have a zerp depth entry I think that must be new (at least not original). I don't remember it in the original pool.
