Which should we choose for our first Deluxe resort?

Hi all, we are considering staying at a Deluxe resort for the first time and needed some advice on what you think we should choose. We usually try a new resort for 1-2 nights and then stay at one of our favorites. There's so many we can't choose but were thinking Polynesian or AKL but the Beach Club looks like fun too with stormalong bay. My husband and I have a DD 17 and new baby boy 9 months! He will be 11 mo in June when we go if this helps. Thanks so much!

Can u hear the MK trains?

I don't think so, no.

I don't recall ever hearing the trains there, but I've not stayed there, only shopped / dined / walked the property. It's close to Magic Kingdom, but not that close. It's further away than Contemporary is...[/quote]

Yes you can. We had a room on the top floor facing the monorail (sorta) and we could still see the castle and hear the sounds even the opening ceremony, trains, ect. It was the most magical stay we've had! Having said that we LOVE the boardwalk.

You took the words out of my mouth, however as a warning after we stayed on the monorail my family won't stay anywhere else.
We stayed at a Monorail Resort for Thanksgiving and then planned out next three stays at non Monorail Resorts.;)

The Monorail Resorts are fun but WDW offers so many great hotel options. Why limit yourself to the Monorail? Besides, they get a little claustrophobic. WDW has so much more to offer. They are a great place to stay though if you plan to spend most of your vacation at MK!

I have been trying for years to get them to stay at on the boardwalk, but they won't budge. Next trip can I stay with you?

I just took a trip with a stroller-aged child. She wasn't big enough for the rental strollers at the parks, so we had to haul one around with us. I am guessing you will be in the same boat. Based on that, I would recommend the Yacht and Beach Clubs or the Polynesian. We liked the atmosphere of the Polynesian the best out of the monorail resorts. The GF was too quiet for us and seemed slightly snobby. The Contemporary was nice, but it didn't feel all that special. My husband kept calling it the "hotel themed resort" because it felt like a hotel we could stay in anywhere. The Polynesian really does feel like Hawaii, though I always think of it as a more romantic resort. The Epcot deluxes are all really nice. The pool at Yacht & Beach is insane. The best slide on the property, white sand bottoms, and a really nice baby pool area. With the Epcot resorts, you also get the benefit of the Boardwalk area. They have lots of little acts out there in the evenings. That could be cool for your teenager. If you plan on spending the most time at the MK, I would go with the Poly. Otherwise, I would pick the Yacht or Beach.

You can hear the wdw railroad whistle. We were watching our video from our trip when we stayed at the gf in August and you can clearly hear it! It is very cool

Thanks for all the great responses-gives me a lot of ideas! It seems the Poly would be great for my little guy since we will probably spend a lot of time at MK but the BC would be great this trip it sounds like for the pool. Tough choice.

Split stay! ;) Although that would probably be tough with the younger kiddo.

Just a warning - whichever one you pick, you WILL get spoiled (by either the monorail access at the Poly or the ability to walk to 2 parks from Beach Club). Not a bad choice to have to make. :)

The Polynesian is my favorite resort! It has easy access to the monorails, and you could even walk right over to the Ticket and Transportation Center to catch the monorail to Epcot if you don't want to wait for the resort one. The atmosphere is so relaxing and gorgeous, and they have some wonderful restaurants there. I'm sure the other deluxe resorts are awesome as well, but I'll always love the Poly above all.

I hope you enjoy wherever you pick! :)

If you're going to spend a lot of time at the MK, the Poly is a great idea. Getting to the MK is much easier from the monorail resorts. :)

And, IMO, the Beach Club's pool isn't all it is cracked up to be.

If just the two of you were going, I'd say the BC because of its proximity to epcot. However, with the kids I'd do Poly because of the monorail and the ability to walk to the T&TC to take the monorail to EPCOT. Have a great time!

Beach Club is my vote, In June you'll want to take advantage of the best pool on WDW property. Plus, you have a lot of food options all within a boat ride. If you are getting a park hopper, you can send someone in to EPCOT in the morning for fresh pastries from France. Just inside the entrance.

That being said, pick it based on your family.

We love Beach Club because of the pool and convenience to parks, feeling like you are in the middle of it all. Contrastingly, we also love Kidani Village. It takes a little longer to get to the parks, but once at the resort you feel removed from the hustle and bustle of WDW. They also have a really nice pool, that is not nearly as crowded as other resorts.

Despite a stellar view, we were very disappointed at the Poly. Felt isolated with not much to do in the evening at the Resort. Rooms were worn, too, and common places were just "common."

Yacht Club, and Beach Club too, have spoiled us. Even if you aren't at a theme park, there is entertainment down on your promenade, across at BoardWalk, or even World Showcase. The number of "things to do" like ice cream places, bars, restaurants, shops, and entertainment cannot be beat at any other Disney Resort. Amazing location, which might help your daughter out if you both stay in the room with baby, or vice versa if she stays in and you two go out.

I recently stayed at the Poly and, while close to the MK, I agree it was tired-looking, aside from the landscaping. If I had my choice, I'd pick the GF every time (if you want to be close to MK); otherwise, I'd choose Wilderness Lodge, or Yacht/Beach club.

I'd recommend either Poly or Beach Club. Poly is nice because of the theming, restaurants, and I just really love the smell of the lobby for some reason.

I also really like Beach Club though. Stormalong Bay is probably the best pool I've ever been in.

There is no better theming than the Wilderness Lodge!
Except for the Animal Kingdom Lodge. They took everything they learned from WL and made it better.;)

Seriously though, WDW is great at theming. Perhaps one of the most enjoyable aspects of WDW is staying at one of the resorts, where the extensive theming and attention to detail distinguish WDW from many other resorts. The "best" WDW resort is largely a function of which theming appeals to each individual.
