In order to select which parks better fit into your family vacation I have to ask a few questions.

-Do you have young kids? if you have kids 10 and under, epcot is a long day without a ton of stuff for the kids to do. Skipping epcot may be an option.

-Do you and your family appreciate animals? If you and your family are into animals and nature as mine is, Animal Kingdom is a must see. If not, you should consider skipping. However, if you are animal kingdom is without a doubt a full day park.
-Do you have teens? DHS, and both Universal Parks are geared towards teens. So if so, these 3 parks are a must.
-Is this your first time to the Disney Parks? If so I would not combine DHS and Animal Kingdom into one day. Way too much to take in if this is your first time. Definitely consider skipping one park.

I hope this help

I also forgot to mention that we went back to Ak in the morning one day and did what we didn't do the first 1/2 day we went..Took a couple of hours then we went to DHS for the rest of the day and did what we do there, and saw Fantasmic. Worked out great. We obviously paid the extra money for hoppers. We were going to do a park a day, but we had my mom, age 78 and her boyfriend, age 80 for two days, and we knew they would slow us down, so after they left, we hopped back to what we missed.

I voted AK, but we are going to do AK in the morning and Universal in the afternoon. But I will say, we have 5 day park hoppers, so if the urge hits we can return to AK on another day to catch anything we miss. We only want to visit Harry Potter, so we don't need a full day at universal.

If it's not too late to chime in, I think the answer would depend a lot on you and your touring habits, What is your energy level when you tour? Are you alone, or with other people, and if so, what is his/her/their energy level(s)? Do you want to soak up the scenery in the parks or just hit the highlights/"e-tickets?"

Were I traveling alone in October (when attendance is often not too high), and only had 2 days to visit four parks (that is what we're talking about right? You have 3 days in the area but one day is for Uni, leaving you 2 day for four parks?), first thing I'd try to do is score a ticket for one of MK's MNSSHPs. That morning, I'd hit either AK or the Studios, tour it until 3:30 or so, then go to the hard-ticket event from 4 until midnight. Then whatever other day I'm spending in "the world" I'd visit the Studios or AK (whichever one I didn't visit the other day) and then go to Epcot until it closed.

I specify "were I traveling alone" because quite frankly, I can muster more energy at WDW than my wife, and she wouldn't appreciate that breakneck pace.

If I'm wrong about how many days you can spend in the park, and you have 4 days in the area but 3 to spend at WDW, I'd still try to score a ticket for MNSSHP. And then I'd spend one regular day at MK but not for the whole day, allowing some time to rest somewhere in the afternoon, and then still follow the plan I specified above. This would give me the opportunity to experience MK during the day and during a special nighttime event where parades and shows and fireworks are all potentially different.
