My fiance and I are planning on going to Disney World for our Honeymoon next August.

We usually stay at either the All Stars or Pop Century.

We would like to stay at one of the nicer resorts, maybe even a Deluxe.

My first choice is the Wilderness Lodge. I've always wanted to stay there.

What do you think would be the best choices in a Deluxe resort? We have to have a couple of other options just in case the annual pass discounts wouldn't be for the Wilderness Lodge when we go?

Also, what would be the best choice in a Moderate? I've stayed at Caribbean Beach before. I don't think I'd be crazy about Port Orleans. Seems too big with too many bus stops. Is Coronado nice?

When I think honeymoon, I think lush and inviting. Wilderness Lodge is definitely a good pick. Although I've never dined there, Artist Point seems like a romantic place to dine. Everything is darkly lit and the hot tubs are some of the biggest on property. If it's unavailable, what about Animal Kingdom Lodge? It's pricey, but it's my favorite place to stay. You really should pamper yourself. I think AKL has all the properties of the Wilderness Lodge but better. And Jiko and Boma are amazing (if you're a culinary maven like me). The Poly is a close second. Just imagine swinging in the hammock on the beach! I'd stay away from CBR and Coronado and Port Orleans. They're just too big to feel lavish. Have you considered the Yacht or Beach Clubs?

We had our honeymoon at the Beach Club and had a great time. Fantastic location with easy access to EPCOT and ferry boats to the Studios and lots of things to do with the Boardwalk five minutes away. Beaches and Cream is right there also so dessert is nearby. :slurp: The two pools are great to unwind or be a kid again and night strolls on the sand were unforgettable.

A nice Disney moment: when we arrived to check-in, we were upgraded to a room facing the water with no charge. They must have read our reason (honeymoon) for staying there.

Personally, I think you answered your own question with your first post.

Wilderness Lodge all the way. I've never been so overwhelmed with a resort as I was with Wilderness Lodge. It has a very comfortable, intimate, and warm feel to it, no matter where you are. They did a beautiful job, and seemingly spared no expense....and it shows.

I'd skip the moderates. If you're wanting it to be special and romantic, none of the moderates really have that feeling.

Wilderness Lodge all the way. You'll love it. :)

Meega, nala kwishta!
We did ours at the Poly. But AKL and WL were not open then. So, if we had to do it all over again, I'd choose 1. AKL, 2. WL, 3. Poly.

Have fun!

In my opinion, Coronado is just like any other hotel. There is nothing special about it. I think Caribbean beach is the best one in that category. Go for the WL, that place is amazing.

We were in the exact same situation as you when planning our honeymoon. We had only stayed at value resorts before then and wanted to enjoy something more special for the honeymoon. AKL had jsut recently opened so we decided to stay there rather than WL. However, we didn't want to spring for the savannah view room (just getting a bit too rich for our blood). So we went with standard view (and got upgraded to pool view). The resort is really nice, but I really think that if you don't go savannah view it loses something. If I had to do it over again, I think we would have stayed at WL. We've gone there recently for dinner at Artist Point and the resort just looks amazing--and the food at Artist Point was outstanding.

Well, I was watching my Disney Vacation Planning video, and when I saw the Wilderness Lodge (especially the lobby) I immediately said "I wanna stay there."

My fiance wants to stay at AKL as well. That one just doesn't seem to interest me, pretty much for the exact reason you mentioned.

I think the Wilderness just look amazing.

My wife and I honeymooned at the Poly. It has the best location for transportation aside from Beach Club and you really can relax there. (We recommend the building Rapa Nui since you can walk to the TTC if you want and don't have to transfer monorails.) Beach Club is great too and we stay there often. Personally I would put Wilderness Lodge a bit lower cause it is not as accessible by transporation (if you don't like busses much like me).

I don't understand how so many people can hate the Grand Floridian. I have stayed there three times, and the service there was impecable. The service there was definitely better than the other two resorts which I have stayed at, The Swan and The Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Hey there!!!!! It is me again!!!!! Dont be scared though!!!!! Never having stayed at any of the Deluxes I cant comment that way, but it seems as though you have your heart set on the Wilderness Lodge. If that is your heart's desire, by all means go for it!!!!! Dont skimp on yourselves especially on your honeymoon!!!! Belle

If I were to spend my honeymoon at WDW (and I hope to one day :D). I think my vote would be for the Poly (have not stayed there yet). I think that would be a great resort for a honeymoon stay.

Animal Kingdom Lodge

We honeymooned at the AKL last year and loved it! We put a comment on our reservation to tell them that we were honeymooning and got upgraded to a deluxe savannah view.:sohappy: I haven't stayed at the WL, but I have heard people say that the honeymoon suites are over the restaurant which gets quite noisy. Our experience at AKL was so different from that...every morning and every evening was perfectly quiet and peaceful. Waking up to see the giraffes, ostriches, etc. feeding outside your window was a truly magical experience.

Pricewise, we lucked into the 7 nights for the price of 4--hopefully, you can get as lucky as we did!

There are so many places to choose from when deciding to stay at WDW resorts. All resorts are fabulous and geared towards different tastes. Everyone has their favorites. You will find many great advices from people on this site..

We stayed at Dixie Landings (now Port Orleans) for our honeymoon and we had the time of our lives. For us it was more important to stay at a moderate resort and use our extra money for a new house. We didn’t want to break the bank.

We also stayed at AKL once and loved it. We were upgraded to a deluxe Savannah View. For us to stay there again, we would need the deluxe Savannah View. There is nothing wrong with the other views, but for us it wouldn’t be the same magical time. We would rather stay at another resort and keep the fond memories of AKL.<O:p</O:p

Also, you stated about the bus stopping too many times to stay at Port Orleans. Well, AKL has some long bus rides to and from the parks. So if being on the bus for an extended period is a concern, AKL may not be the place. You don’t want to be frustrated on your honeymoon.<O:p</O:p

Only you two know your situation. You know your likes and dislikes. All we can do is tell you what the resorts are like and what they offer. If you’re like most newlyweds and strapped for cash, you won’t be disappointed with a value or moderate resort. You may want to consider a place you never stayed at before. <O:p</O:p

No matter where you stay you will have a special and romantic time, after all it’s your honeymoon. It’s not where you are, it’s who you are with that’ makes the time so magical.

Honeymoon

For my personal honeymoon, we stayed at the Caribean Beach for 7 days. I have stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and it is very nice as well. I would recommened the Caribean Beach because it is cheaper than the Wilderness so you can maybe squeeze one or two more days out of the vacation.  :sohappy: :xmas:

The very best is the Wilderness Cabins (2500 loop) close to quiet pool. This is the most refreshing pool during Aug at Disney because of its depth. Without ALL the screaming kids at the crowded Wilderness Lodge pool!!! The boat ride to MK in the morning is most relaxing after the bkfst buffet at Trails End. The cabins give you so more room inside, great car parking, Hoop-de-doo, Wishes by the marina, Trails End (best priced buffet without characters at WDW) Best internal bus system of an resort at WDW. You just cant beat the midnight swim at the very quiet pool. Maid service is supreme. Just ask for extra towels and the maid doesent have to come for three days at least. The extra closet in bathroom comes already full. Where ever you pick to eat from FW you got the best using boats, mono to MK area, bus, car to rest of WDW. Everyone loves there favorite resort. I've stayed at every Disney resort that I liked. Poly(suite(P1), logoon, pool(3608-3610), Cont Tower (Both sides), Wings (Both) GF(Lgn), WL(Pool), FW(Cabins & Camping (100 & 200 Loops) ,PORS (1810-1815), Golf Resort(gone). AllStar Sports & Music (Never Again) stopped counting trips at 50, and this was 365 days in WDW resorts. About 5 trips ago my daughter got married at the gazebo at the Boardwalk. She stayed at the WL. Her choice was because of the Roaring forks snace bar. She had her 1 Yr old and other people in the party wanted to stay at WL. Great for kids. Cheese steak is good to. Towels are by the outdoor snack bar. Fort Wilderness Cabins are the best for atmosphere. Have a great time.
