I would recommend staying at Disney's Beach Resort, I've heard nothing but good news about the Resort. Or if you have kids and need somewhere that is somewhat cheap, I would recommend and All-Star Resort.:sohappy:

It depends on your budget, but personally, I don't think you can go wrong at Port Orleans. If the boat transportation is up and running - and everything I've read seems to indicate it will be, if it isn't already - it can't be beat. Of course, the Disney buses also service Port Orleans, so transportation is pretty easy even without the boats. It's got a food court, nice merchandise shop, and lots of atmosphere, too. The landscaping is terrific. I also loved the Caribbean Beach Resort, but it is a LONG bus ride from almost anything else, and for a first-timer, that can be frustrating. If you're driving your own car, or renting one for the duration of your trip, that's different.

If money is no object (!), try one of the Monorail hotels. The only one I don't care for is the Grand Floridian, but I guess that's just me. I'm more of a moderate-priced girl, I guess.

As a first-timer, it's GREAT that you're going to be staying on the property - it's the only way to go! And I envy you, with that first Disney visit ahead of you - you'll LOVE it.

Although I've never stayed there, I love visiting the Boardwalk. Part of it is reserved for Vacation Clubbers and part is a regular hotel. It's pricey though! I've stayed twice at Dixie and once each at All Star Sports and Caribbean Beach. I loved them all. I don't stay off property anymore. I like to be immersed completely in the Magic! Next trip I'll be at All Star Movies but I'm for sure taking a look at Animal Kingdom Lodge while I am there.

Wherever you choose, I know you will have a great time! You really can't go wrong! :sohappy:

PS If you do decide on the Polynesian, you might want to check out their luau! My husband and I did that on our honeymoon and had a great time. If you've been to Hawaii though for the real thing, it's probably something you can skip, since Disney has so much more to offer.

Any resort will be better than you will be expecting if you are new to wdw. You will not be disappointed with any of them. Make sure you take the time while you are there to use the bus system to explore the other resorts.

See the Avatar??? Same Resort Different Name (Port Orleans - Riverside) It's the Best of the Best. Only Bad thing is that you don't get the resort monorail experience.

For the first time -- I would recommend Port Orleans -- Riverside (Magnolia Bend). I wouldn't stay at a deluxe resort until you have had an opportunity to see which one you would prefer. For the first deluxe resort -- I would pick the BoardWalk.

I'd say to go for the cheap route and stay at the All Star Resorts for your first visit. Then while you're down there you can look at the other resorts and get an idea for where you'd want to stay on your next trip. Plus by going the cheap route you'll have just that much more money available for better dining options and more souvineers to remember your trip.

I would stay at the Polynesian because it is close to the monorail which means you can get to MK and Epcot fairly easy. It has a nice theme to it and it has been my most favorite resort in Disney World.

Stay at the Poly. Ride the monorail to the MK from your hotel! Walk to the Ticket and Transporation center. Great views of the MK. New pool.

I'd say beach or Port Orleans, those are great.... Not too overwhelming for a first timer

But regardless you can't go wrong at a Disney Resort in my experience

Meega, nala kwishta!
Animal Kingdom Lodge...it's expensive, but well worth the money. Best theemed resort IMO. I'd take the Poly or Wilderness Lodge as a second choice. All are Deluxe Resorts, so you'll have a fun time at any of the choices.
