Not sure where to stay Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans French Quarter. I thought port orleans may be better with my young son, any suggestions or experiences?

I've been traveling alone with my granddaughter to disney since she was 4. Unless your son is a die hard pirates fan and that's the biggest consideration I feel like POFQ is a little more user friendly for someone traveling alone with a child for two basic reasons. CBR is so spread out with multiple bus stops, the check in/front desk in a different building than the food court and the really cool turrets at the pool make it impossible to see your child from poolside the whole time. POFQ is the smallest of disney's resorts. Pool, food court, single bus stop all user friendly imo for traveling alone with a child. It just worked better for me for those reasons but we've been fine at CBR just for us better at POFQ.

Just wrapping up our 4th stay at POFQ-. DGS5 LOVED it here! And so did we. The compact size was ideal, bus service was great all week, we all loved the pool. Very friendly and helpful CMs. Can you tell it's our favourite mod resort?

Just to confuse the issue, my favorite moderate by far is the Coronado Springs Resort. Look at the theming of all the moderates, and pick the one that suits you best.

POFQ because of the water taxi to Disney Springs (it is relaxing and SO much nicer than taking a bus!) and also because you can walk to POR to eat at Boatwrights, which is one of my fav restaurants on property.

I have been to both, but I don't have kids yet. I enjoyed both resorts though I would say CBR is much more spacious. I think you'd prefer Port Orleans-French Quarters. The pool and slide is fantastic.

I've only been to POR, POR (when it was Dixie Landings), and CSR. Based on the buses at POR, I will never stay there without a car again. If I didn't have a car, I would demand a room as close to POFQ as possible so I can use their buses instead without a huge walk. CSR in my opinion is the best moderate. It has luxuries of a deluxe at a moderate price. However, the downside of that is there is less Disney theming. It has one of the best pools on property and it is never crowded because convention goers do not go there. The buses are one of the best on property. You are never too far from the main building. Just hop on the first bus you see and get dropped off at the lobby.

I do like the looks of CBR and will stay there eventually.

POFQ. We came home today after a split stay with two nights there. Dining options are a little limited right now with a refurb in progress. We had a car and didn't use the bus, but talked to a few people that had no problems with it. We really enjoyed being able to take a boat to and from Disney Springs on Sat. night without having to fight traffic or hunt for a parking spot. We were at CBR briefly in Sept. and I took the bus to and from Epcot one day. There are multiple stops around the resort so the walk isn't that long to get to one. The other side of the coin is that you have to make multiple stops before leaving the resort, unless the bus is full. We enjoyed both, but prefer POFQ.

How old is your son? I can't speak to POFQ as its still on my list of places I want to stay;) But, we have stayed at CBR and loved it. I will say with small children having an enclosed kiddie pool area with slide was a huge selling point. I could actually sit down while my 3 year old played in the water and DH could be in the big pool with our 5 year old or we could all be in the kiddie area. If, you plan on spending down time at the pool this was ideal for a family with not strong swimmers. My boys also loved the pirate theming. However, POFQ looks beautiful, it's compact and essentially has the amenities for two resorts. GL deciding!

Between all moderate resorts I'd probably choose CBR dead last, the theme does nothing for me and Shutters long has a reputation for being one of the worst restaurants on property (though I've heard some say it's better than it was). However with POFQ you have no designated on-site restaurant at all, though you can walk "next door" to Riverside and have dinner at Boatwrights.

With POFQ you have a smaller layout which as others have said might be easier to manage with a young child. It also has boat access to Disney Springs if you plan on spending any time there (as does PO Riverside, but Riverside is a much bigger resort).

If those are the only 2 moderate resorts you're considering, I'd opt for POFQ, too.

My kids prefer the CBR, but they like pirates. There is bit of a walk to the food court, but then you do have a pirate adventure you can sign your kid up for for about $40 which will allow you a couple of hours of time alone... sadly I don't think they have the boat rentals but I could be wrong on that one... Really it just depends on the what your kid enjoys, if he like pirate CBR is the best option.
