Which moderate resort would you recommend?

On our next WDW trip we would like to try a new resort. On our last two trips we have stayed at POR (alligator bayou & oak manor) while we loved it both times the kids want to stay somewhere different this time. We are going for 10 days and thinking about maybe spending 5 at a moderate and the last 5 upgrading to either WL or AKL.. any comments on which of those two is best would be appreciated too.. thanks ..

I really did not care for CBR. I did not like how long it takes to get dropped off or picked up. I was always the first or the last. It got old real fast. I prefer to stay at WL if its available.

POR and POFQ really are the best of the moderates. I have stayed at CBR and CS as well. Of those 2 I would pick CS but just barely. You really cant go wrong with either one.
IMHO AKL will win out over any other resort on property. Without a doubt it is the best themed resort on property with unique dinning that can be found no where else on property.

POFQ is a beautiful resort. The pool is fun and whimsical with all the statues scattered about. The size makes it very easy to get around. The lack of a sit down restuarant is a drawback, but you can easily walk to POR. The boats to DTD are a definite advantage over the busses and run more often.

I'd recommend CS. I love the theming.

Also, I am one of the few people on this site that HATED POR. We had to walk so far to get to the main building (which we did use a lot, our vacation was part relaxation and when we tried to pay extra for a "closer" room we were not allowed to)... I didn't like the idea of staying at the bayou... It was also the only resort where my family had to complain about the CMs working there. We had to spend two hours at check-in because the CM couldn't find our reservation. It also felt too crowded for my tastes, but that's just me. Sorry for the rant.... Usually, we love every resort we go to. I do love Pop Century a lot so I'm not that picky... We usually end up going there due to financial constraints...

I love AKL. It's smaller (or so it seems) and the rooms are all connected in one building. When I was at WDW during one of the hurricanes, it was great that we could just walk down to Jiko or Boma to eat. If we were at POR or one of the values, it would have been vending machine food.

Caribbean Beach. The food court is awesome, the rooms are bigger than those at other moderates, very colourful decor, they play Jimmy Buffett music in the food court building, nice grounds, they have their own bus. I've never stayed at Coronado Springs, but they too have their own bus and that is a big advantage. I don't think I'll ever stay at Port Orleans again because of the horrible bus service.

I've never stayed at the AKL, only the WL, but the WL is great. Close to the MK, boat transport to MK and other resorts, monorail is a boat ride away, Electrical Water Pageant, courtyard view is amazing, the lobby is breathtaking. I personally do not see the thrill of the AKL. Unless you get savannah view, the views look to be pretty bad. There are actually rooms along the ramp to the bus depo!

How old are your kids? While I personally love Coronado Springs among the moderates, many conventioneers stay there and as a result, it has a more mature feel and there aren't as many children running around for your kids to meet in the arcade or at the main pool. Some kids may see that as a negative. There always seem to be tons of younger children at Carribbean Beach Resort.

My teens really like Coronado Springs.

As far as the deluxes you mentioned, Animal Kingdom Lodge has the benefit of animals. If you are into that, stay there. Wilderness Lodge has more interesting transportation and access to the Magic Kingdom. (I like the boat ride to the Contemporary) Both have great family restaurants in Boma and Whispering Canyon (anything but whispering) You will probably love either and both.

Have a great trip.

I personally feel that Coronado Springs is the best of the moderates, with the best bus service (on property even), nice pools and theme, and great location.

And AKL I would say is the best resort of property...but WL is nice too, and MK is just a boat ride away.

Have fun! :)
