Hi,
This is my first post, so if I get it all wrong forgive me!! We are thinking about Disney for the first time with our kids next year, and want to stay in one of the Disney luxury hotels but don't know which one? I have heard good reports about the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Thanks:)

Welcome
If you're undecided on which one resort to stay at (and AKL is pretty good) split your trip between two resorts - GF or the Poly would compliment AKL

I'm currently at the Boardwalk Inn and my stay couldn't get much better. The atmosphere is great and the service has been top notch. I don't want to leave tomorow =(

Welcome to the boards and you did a great job on your first post!

I would recomend the AK lodge and Wilderness lodge combo myself.

Have a great trip!

AK lodge is probably the most kid-friendly resort we've stayed at. Lots of activities for kids, great theming, incredible restaurants, and hey, ANIMALS right outside your window. It doesn't get much better than that. When we were there in May there were lots of kids there, but they weren't in tour groups like at the discount lodges, they were there with their families, so behavior was quite a bit better.

There are always CMs at the animal viewing areas to answer questions, and at night they let you look through night vision glasses to get a better look. If you can afford to splurge, to the sunrise safari. You have to be in concierge level, but you can do what we did and stay in a standard room until the day before your safari, then switch to concierge so you can do the safari. It's pricey, but worth every penny. Make sure you bring your camera and have fresh batteries and lots of film or disc space.

Definitley AKL!! Been twice over the last 3 years and it's amazing! It's great for kids and it's such a family friendly resort.
Runner up - Poly. The kids loved it being so close to MK and the views are sure fantastic.
Wherever you decide to go, have a great first trip!

You are unlikely to be disappointed at any Disney Deluxe hotel.

If money is not object, I'd go with the Grand Floridian. It is fantastic and just one stop away from Magic Kingdom.

Of course, for the classic Disney experience, the Seven Seas Lagoon side of the tower at the Contemporary is hard to beat.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge does get great reviews. Menu is a little different. Setting is excellent. It is on the southwest edge of the property, essentially.

The Wilderness Lodge is by the same designer and often gets marks as the most impressive theming of any Disney Hotel. It's a boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom. Bus service can sometimes be a little nerve-racking.

The Yacht & Beach Club and Boardwalk are all centrally located from an Epcot and Disney MGM point of view.

The Polynesian is the other monorail hotel and is excellent, as well.

I suppose I haven't helped at all, now have I?

You can't go wrong.

Have a great trip.

We have fallen in love with AKL. Great pool and awesome atmosphere! And Jiko, The Cooking Place is a great place for a great meal. My mother in law can find her way to our room from the bus stop. We'll be there soon, can't wait!

i'm gonna have to agree with almost everyone and say AKL. i stayed there with my sister and my aunt in May, and although we didnt have any kids with us, the kids that we saw there LOVED it. the pool is awesome, kids really love that zero entry thing that the pool has, like a beach, and also get a real kick out the animals roaming around. it was first deluxe i've stayed at, so i dont really have anything to compare it to, but i have spent time at the other deluxe resorts, and AKL just has a different vibe. its very comfortable and layed back, it seems like a better environment for children. :)

You can't go wrong with any of the deluxe resorts. Our personal favorite is Wilderness Lodge. You might want to go to disneyworld.com and see what each resort has to offer. We did that not too long ago and have decided that our trip after the next one we are going to stay at two different resorts or maybe three!
