Game Cube.. Small, light, and graphics are great!

I vote Gamecube, Resident Evil Rocks, and Mario too.

Plus Crash and Sonic are coming soon, so you get some of all the systems.

The big thing that bugs me is that people seem to smash X-box.. because of its lack of good titles...do we forget that this is microsofts first shot at a console? remember when the original playstation came out? Game companys need a year or two to get "comfortable" with the system..once they do..more and more games will pop up. A good majority of companies already agree that its a TON easier to develop for the box than any other system..which to them is a way to save time and money.

I am very anti gamecube tho...it may be a slightly powerfull system..but its design..the controller..(xbox suffers on the controller front too)...its just very...playschool. Not to mention nintendo seems to LOVE making the same mistake over and over....by using a propriatary media...no DVD = bad sell point.

...personally..i still love my Dreamcast ;)

I've owned and or used just about every console system since Pong, and I went with X-Box for several reasons:

Superior hardware.
Built in hard drive (no need for silly memory cards).
Standard programming languages (It uses Direct-X as well as other PC standards, which makes it easier to program for, as opposed to PS-2, which from what I've read is a nightmare to write for. It also means that hit PC games can easily be ported to X-Box).
Built in network card (X-Box Live looks like it's going to be amazing).
Dolby Digital 5.1
Support for widescreen TV's.
Halo, which is simply the best video game I've ever played.
DVD-Player, which I didn't need, but at some point games are going to be on DVD's.

As far as the selection of games goes, PS-2 has been out for a year longer than X-Box, so there are more games to choose from. But there is an excellent library of games for the X-Box, and the second generation titles coming out look amazing because developers are getting a handle on what the machine can do.

To put it simply, there are things the X-Box can do that no other console can touch.

Halo is a great game..im a bit bitter tho seeing how it was SUPPOSED to be a PC game...3 years of waiting..hehe....but its not the BEST game....tho it is the reason i got my x-box (well..the thing that sealed the deal for me)

they are all great systems. when I was first looking I didn't know what to do. actually I just got married last year so I sold off alot of my old NES, SNES, Genesis etc. didn't have anything until my wife got me the playstation the origional one. I like to play videogames but I don't like to pay alot to play them except for the few I really want (like disney). any way a year or so went by and playstation 2 cameout gamecube and xbox came out. and I was doing some research on each. but they were still so expensive, and I liked paying $5 and up for psone games at my local funcoland. now in that time my friend got a Xbox. the graphics are cool, xbox online really seems to be cool also. there are a few games on there that are decent and yes it's the first year. so then I was leaning toward the xbox. then nintendo announced mario, zelda, starfox, mickeys magic mirror, better price. I didn't like nintendos controller though. so then I was going to go for the gamecube. still I couldn't afford anything. then disney came out with some new games for the playstation and playstation 2 and announced kingdome hearts. cool but I still couldn't afford one. then the prices came down. still out of my reach. then someone pointed me out this crazy deal on the walmart website 2 xbox games halo and something else plus a second controller for a $1. I know it was a misprint but heck I ordered it anyway. they quickly took it down but they did honor it. so I had an option buy an xbox for $200, turn everything in at funcoland and get a gamecube for $149 or turn in the xbox stuff and my current psone and get a playstation 2 and still be able to play my old games. so I added it up. since my wife is a teacher she has the computer alot more then I do so I wanted to get something that had inexpensive games yet had alot of games I liked. since the graphics on all the next gen system were better then the graphics on my origional playstation, graphics didn't play a huge role. so when I looked at game spot and added up the games on each system I liked the 2 top choices were gamecube and playstation 2. when I added in the features the top choices were xbox and playstation 2. then I added together game prices. since playstation 2 was downwardly compatible I didn't have to get rid of my old games and games were like $5 and up I could get gran turismo 3 for $15 (used of course). xbox and gamecube game are still $29 and up I knew eventually they would drop but at this point I wanted to be greedy. kingdom hearts was going to be on playstation 2 and alot of the games on the gamecube and xbox I liked (except for the nintendo exclusives) would be on the playstation 2. so I decided i racked my brain so hard I had a headach. so I just went out and picked up the playstation 2. I am so looking foward to kingdom hearts. so please don't make this into this console is better then this console, the poor guy is trying to rack his brain to figure out which one is right for him. please don't give him a headach.

I got a headache from that HUGE paragraph! ;)

Any one of the next gen consoles will provide hours of great entertainment. I picked X-Box because the hardware is better (the better the hardware, the longer the life of the system) and the games are geared more towards adults, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

The choice may come down to what kind of games you like to play. Most games are or will be available on more than one console (although the adverts always seem the show the X-Box version :D ), so it comes down to the exclusives, Like Mario on GameCube, Halo on X-Box and the like.

Go to CompUSA and try them out! They carry all three systems. Also, keep in mind you don't have to buy games anymore. You can rent them from places like Blockbuster now.

I agree, Blockbuster has like a 30 Day Thing where you can keep the games for 30 days and return them anytime before 30 days and its pretty fun but keep it in mind its $19.99 for them but I never used it the 2nd time.

Garyt977 mine was expired July 02 so what am i suppose to do? rent it over n pay another $20 Buck for it? or ill get a new card or what?

Now Inc., sure X-Box will get lots of games soon, but the loss per counsul is more than of the PS2 and GCN. They made it with stuff most people will never use. Just like the N64.

But it depends on what you like and what your previous video game history is.

I agree. I got my N64 pretty late, but I loved it, and I only had a few games: Smash Brothers, Perfect Dark, Wrestlemania 2000, Spider-Man, Dnokey Kong, Mario Kart, Road Rash, Conker. I remember people bashing it because it didn't have potential, games were for kids, graphics weren't nice... Basically, I play a game if it's cool. I don't care if a game has Gorgeous graphics but sucks... We're getting a Cube pretty soon. My brother is dying for Eternal Darkness. I do like shooters, and the game looks beautiful, but I have this feeling that I won't like it... The whole console thing is too personal. The best advice still is go for whichever has the games you like best.

Dan, doesn't X-Box have this thing that PC games work on it and the other way around? And Kingdom Hearts really is coming to PC?

Nope..but thats not to say it couldnt be done since the hardware is pretty much the same...there is this one company offering 100,000 dollars to the first person who can get a working version of linux to run off an xbox...if that happens..then anything is possible ;)

I just got my GamePro today, and it has some interesting articles in it, like how the editors LOVED Kingdom Hearts!! LoL

Anyway, in the News Bits section, it states that another magazine, has an article that has this info. about Microsoft and the XBox:

"The Red Herring article estimates that Microsoft lost about $750 million in the last fiscal year on the XBox and stands to lose $1.1 billion in the next one."

Interesting, no??

Interesting, yes. I've read just about all of the game magazines, and GamePro seems to have a pro PS-2 bias.

As far as Microsoft losing money, that was expected. They were losing money on them when they selling them at $299, and now they're $199!

Anyway, they expected to lose money on the hardware and make it up on software and X-Box Live. That's the way things have always been in this industry. Microsoft has said from the beginning that they are in this for the long haul, and they certainly have deep enough pockets to stick things out as long as necessary.

From what i have read, GamePro is anything but biased towards any console, or handheld for that matter (even though there is really just one handheld out now...).

X Box: IMO, do NOT get X Box. Its already showing signs of dying, and besides Halo, there isn't really any game worth getting for X Box that isnt on the other 2 systems anyway. Also, the controller sucks :D

PS2 - Graphics are about equal with Gamecube. PS2 already has a big selection of games, and even if a lot of them are throwaway games, you still have a bigger selection. Plus, you can get PS1 games for 10 dollars now and play them on your PS2, and its also a DVD player. Oh yeah, and the PS2 console is cool looking!

Gamecube: Slightly better graphics and speed than PS2, but a smaller selection of games. Like Nintendo 64, expect Gamecube to never get as big of a game library as PS2, but it'll always have the "Nintendo Classics" to make up for it. Downsides: Doesn't play DVDs, ugly looking console, and IMO, the controller layout sucks.
