It almost surely wasn’t a first offense. He was likely warned privately and continued breaking the rules. I couldn’t tell exactly what got him permabanned because he became exponentially more detestable in his last week here.

I thought TROR had some interesting discussions involving Disneyland itself and the history of the park, but when anything got even remotely political then I found myself getting frustrated with their posts. It's bittersweet for me though because he and Darkbeer1 were the first two posters that I really started to recognize their usernames / avatars when I started lurking on these forums at work about a year before I even made my account, so to me personally he was one of the regulars / bigger posters on the Disneyland forum even if it wasn't true, but that was just who I started recognizing in threads while first exploring this forum. Don't worry, I recognize all the regulars here now
