I dunno how it has held up over the years. I visited DLP a couple of times when it was almost brand new in the early-mid 90's. Everything worked at that time. Haven't been able to return since then. What's wrong with the AA's now? I wasn't able to discern many non-working aspects from current ride-through videos, besides perhaps one of the rope swinging pirates near the beginning. I'm heavily outspoken against broken effects on rides and am in no way defending them, but i doubt one or two things would completely bring Pirates at DLP down below the others or at least WDW's.

Many AA have very important problem and a big refursh( 3 weeks) is in march, and Jack Sparow is not previous for DLP at this time....

The Jack Sparrow additions really don't hurt the attraction at all in my opinion.

Maybe not the Jack figures themselves but all the "Where be Captain Jack Sparrow" BS REALLY hurts the attraction as well as my brain.
This quote from a micechat member sums it up beautifully.

"My most disliked are the vandalisms to Pirates of the Caribbean and Tom Sawyer's Island. PotC is a textbook case of subtraction by addition: Everything is going well until you hit that mist waterfall effect, when a projection effect (in a ride without any other projection effects) of a squid monster (in a ride with no other squid monsters) tells you that the whole original theme of the ride is wrong. Then we go to a super-realistic Barbossa leading a group of cartoony pirates in attacking a town to find a super-realistic Jack Sparrow. Why is the town hiding Jack Sparrow? Who knows! They just are for some reason. And everyone is calling him "Captain Jack Sparrow" for some reason, even though a whole running gag of the 1st movie, a plot point of the 2nd(!), was that he was the only person who called himself "captain". Nevertheless we go through watching the story of Captain Jack Sparrow from the comfort of our boats, but never seeing any of the good parts. Just him hiding. Until the end, when he's in the treasury and rewarding himself for being a horrible person, because I guess piracy is okay now."

I agree. I defantely am not a fan of the PotC movies, but the fact that they bring those little bits into the actual ride? Geez! The AA's are okay not the speech

Well... at least they didn't re-vamp CBJ to a new show based on the movie.

It's difficult because I do like the movies but I really hate what they did to the ride. If they had just added the Jack AA's without making the ride revolve around him. Also, the man who wrote the plot for the first movie was plagiarized and uncredited.

Was there last night, no video. But man was it foggy in the battle seen.

i've ridden the ride since i was 5 which was 13 yrs ago and they never had the fog, but when i went on it last week there was fog and me and my brother noticed it, and even though u could barely see the water i think it made the scene SO much better

I rode Pirates at WDW as a child from the early 90's to the late 90's, and i never recalled there actually being fog in that battle scene back then. But after returning years later just these past couple of years, i noticed it and wondered whether this was a new thing or whatever. IS the fog fairly new? Last i went as a kid was '97 i believe, didn't return until the second half of 2010. I certainly think it looks awesome. Though it seems to work off and on, visited numerous times during my several visits these past years and it was working sporadically.

Reminds me of the old fog effect at the beginning of the original Mexico ride (sans the animated birds). Fog can REALLY add to these rides' atmosphere in a spectacular way (i'd have really liked to have seen it on Everest as well).

The fog was added after Oct this past year. Oh and Barbossa's neck looked broking last weekend. Also, they to get rid of or change Jack's hat on the first view of him. Stupid Party City pirate hat.

We were lucky enough to visit DL for the first time shortly after it re-opened in November and the alternating Blackbeard/Davey Jones was interesting. It was odd mostly because leading up to it the switch is one after another so you end up seeing it change over 3 or 4 times a ride. Thought it would be better if they stuck with a character for a few lines before they switched, then you could see someone new each ride, and the transition wouldn't be so jarring.

I will give them points though, in that Blackbeard's speech was actually intelligible over there. He just seems to mumble in Orlando (last I was there, anyway).

In general though (IMO) while DL's ride is much longer and has more to look at, most the things MK is missing have little if any impact to the overall story, and at times seem like filler. I think their version may edge out ours by just a bit, but not by leaps and bounds like some would say.

that's the problem i have with the AA's aswell. the rest of the pirates are cartoony and unrealistic, but barbossa and jack are completely normal! i just wish they'd have left the ride as it was, maybe add jack in once or twice for the kids who ask 'where's jack sparrow mommy?' and left it how it was. even the change of music in the first scene annoys me, because the ride already has a theme, it doesn't need to change.
and don't get me started on people who say 'look at the ride they made for the film!' no, just NO!!!.

I totally agree! I'm so upset that every corner you turn you see Johny Depp's face! I wish they left the ride alone!! OK, maybe add in him once at the end, but come on, its overkill with Johnny Depp and he doesn't go with the rest of the ride

I think it would be nice at the end of the ride if they had Captain Jack singing some pirate rap while he shows us all his bling in the treasure room!

Rode last night, and no mist/projection, just audio.

I was there last Monday morning and Friday afternoon. No Blackbeard of course, but I did notice that the area just before the drop had a little bit more lighting than I've seen since the Jack Sparrow refurb. Maybe it's my imagination but in the past few years, that area seems to have been in total darkness and now I could see the rock walls clearly.
