Where to Stay?

To save for our WDW trip I moonlighted in retail, as I do every year, from November 1st until this past weekend. I now have the money necessary for our annual pilgrimage and I will book very shortly. This trip will be special as it’s a “milestone” wedding anniversary for my DW and me. Now here’s the rub, which resort do I book? Per my DW and DS we have to stay, not only on property, but in the Magic Kingdom area or “it’s not Disney!” I have been pushing the Yacht Club to them for years to no avail. My DW favors the Grand Floridian but we stayed there last time. My DS loves the Contemporary but likes the pool at the GF better. If the Polynesian refurbishment is complete I would like to give it another try, last time we stayed there was in 2009 and the Poly was really in need of some TLC, but my DW and DS hate the pools at the Polynesian. I love the Wilderness Lodge but we have stayed there many times and DW and DS are spoiled and really like being on the monorail. I don’t want to do a split stay, I just want to “park it” for a week. So will the Poly re-furb be complete by late August? Will the WL pool be open? Should I book the Contemporary as DW and I honeymooned there many years ago? Or, should I just book the Yacht Club and tell my family to deal with it? Experts, please give me your advice

We love the Epcot resorts! If pool is a priority then Yacht and Beach Club have the BEST pool on property in Storm-along Bay. The Yacht Club is a Fantastic resort and boasts our favorite place to eat the Yachtsman Steakhouse. Our favorite resort is however the Boardwalk across from Yacht and beach club however you cant use Storm-along bay. I love the water view rooms at the boardwalk and seeing the activities below, the resort itself is fantastic..you are a 5 minute walk to EPCOT or 15 -20 minute walk to DHS or a short boat-ride to either... the eating places in those 3 resorts are varied and fantastic with signatures, TS, and QS all available..No its not on the Monorail line but I happily sacrifice it..in fact we check-in next week and I cant wait! Is it Thursday Yet?

EPCOT resorts are such fun to stay at. Lovely walk to EPCOT and HS if you really want to, but the Friendship Boats are very nice as well! Love the décor at Yacht Club, and as mentioned above, the POOL!!! I wouldn't do a split stay either. Just try something new and maybe your family will enjoy a walk around the Boardwalk at night or go fishing (did this a few years ago-surprisingly fun!) or rent bikes (bucket list)!

Both the GF and the Poly gave us special surprises on two of our milestone anniversaries .

Agree with @Jessica Meier, you really need to go with your wife's preference. Ask her about the Poly. The main pool will be completed by your late August travel dates (at least it is supposed to be...DH and I are booked then too) as will most, if not all, of the other construction. The Poly rooms have also been recently updated, in contrast with Yacht Club rooms which badly need refurbishment (coming in 2016.)

The WL pool refurb is completed.

We also honeymooned at the Contemporary many moons ago...:inlove:

My vote would be CR, especially if it's a milestone anniversary and you honeymooned there. I think it would be a great sentimental visit. My DH and I honeymooned at CSR and we brought our daughter there on a visit a few years ago. It was fun to share with her where mom and dad stayed at Disney when they got married. I think CR will score you some extra points, especially if you make mention of the anniversary and book a theme park view room.

I love YC but I wouldn't book it if the family really isn't interested. It may cause more trouble than its worth, and for a special anniversary trip your wife should definitely be in on the decision. I would go Poly, the pool area refurb should be done. Second choice GF.

I'm a Boardwalk loop girl myself - but I think input from the whole family is important. You could try to coax them, with pictures & info about the Yacht Club maybe. Show them pictures of the pool, maybe even videos if you can find someone online. Show them what the Kitchen Sink looks like at Beaches & Cream! Tell them you can get one and try to finish it. :) It is pretty awesome being on the monorail, but you can walk to 2 parks from the Yacht Club, and to minigolf too! If they still aren't interested, than I think I'd agree on a monorail resort & try to get everyone to pick one. Poly would be my choice of the 3, if the pool was done. ;)
