Where to see Super Bowl coverage at Walt Disney World

Back OT, not on the list, but Mizners (in the Grand) is bringing in two big-screen TVs just for the event, and will be serving a special menu of hot dogs, chilli, and possibly wings. I'm tempted to go just to say I had a hot dog from Citricos.

I am not a sports fan so please be gentle with me .

I know some people like/love sports and I get that thats. But if you are at Walt Disney World or any Disney Park why would you take precious time from being in the parks to watch sports?

Unless there's something going on at the park that isn't going to be going on at another point during your trip - why would you skip out on something else that you want to see such as a sporting event?

Because you've paid quite a deal of money to be at WDW, and if one really wanted to they could record the television program and watch it when they get home.

I think he's really asking - if someone wants to see a television program so badly, why would they schedule a trip during it?

I understand why people who enjoy this sort of thing do, but when you put it in terms of people taking a huge chunk out of a day at the most magical place on earth to watch a TV show, which is really what it boils down to, it is a bit perplexing. Knowing people that are obsessed with such things, I understand it - even though personally if I spend even a half-hour watching any TV at WDW I'm like...WTH am I doing? LOL. I fantasize about being here every day, I'm here - how in the world can I waste time watching TV?

I won't schedule a vacation to Walt Disney World (or anywhere) during October because I'm a diehard Red Sox fan and I want to watch the playoffs (which admittedly have been a non-issue the last few years).

I think Football is a bit different. While I'd say that if you're a football fan that spends all day Sunday watching the full slate of games, it might be wise to schedule vacations between September and February, it's still just one day of a vacation. Even then though, people vacation differently. Most people don't visit the parks from open to close, trying to hit up anything and everything.

I was there over the new year, and we had a long day on 12/31, as well as the days leading up to it. On 1/1, we were looking for a break. We slept in, went to my aunt and uncles for brunch, got an early dinner at 'Ohana and then went into the Magic Kingdom at around 7 PM that night.

People have interests that supersede either a diehard Disney fanaticism, or more accurately, their level of interest in their vacation. Taking a few hours out of a week long vacation to watch a sporting event, or perhaps take a business call or any other number of activities is far more common than you think.

Normally, I watch the Super Bowl, but I scheduled a trip to Disney World during the Saints/Colts Super Bowl. Had the Pats been in the Super Bowl that year, I certainly would have taken time out of the parks to watch it.

I think that it is absolutely normal ... dare I say healthy to wish to view the Super Bowl. Who cares if you have to skip your 69th career trip on Splash Mountain Ghetto Edition to do so? If you're a big fan of the Pats or Giants, then I can't imagine how you'd go to WDW and not go to a place to watch the game (perhaps skipping the 17-hour pre-game show ... no, I don't need to see an interview with Tom Brady's sixth-grade math teacher's brother in law!)

Bottom line is folks vacation in all sorts of ways.

One thing I'll never understand is the people who would pay $500 a night for a room at the Poly or BC or DAK Lodge and then NEVER be at said resort except to sleep. No pool time ... no relaxing ... no enjoying the resort ... sleep, shower (perhaps another s word I can't put here) and maybe breakfast in the morning. I always say those people are insane and should be paying $50 to stay a few miles away ... but whatever, everyone is different. I suppose that's why we're all so special.

I remember being a 12 year old kid and watching my Rockets play the Celts in the 1986 NBA Finals from the snack bar/arcade on the first floor of the Contemporary. Met some nice people from Boston who were watching along with us, and I remember being completely baffled that anyone could possibly not root for the Rockets! :)

I was there during the last World Cup watching alongside people from around the world at AKL and ESPN club.

Fun to experience these things in huge groups like this....but if my Texans ever make it to a Super Bowl or my Astros make it to another World Series, I think I'd prefer being home in Houston for the event, if I couldn't make it to the game, itself. The celebrations after the Rockets two championships were amazing to experience with other hometown fans. I just hope I'm not dead before the Astros get lucky and win one!

At this point, I have been to WDW many times that I don't mind taking time out of the parks to do some other things. I have spent a few hours on a Sunday watching football at ESPN and eating lunch/having a few drinks. The rides were still there afterward and I was able to enjoy football in a place that was different than usual for me. I'm also a huge football fan though, and I like to watch the games (especially the Colts) when I have a chance.

I never understand that one as well. Those resorts are expensive, and if you are paying for them you should really enjoy what they offer. I recently used my points (I know, the dreaded DVC to you) for a weekend stay at the Wilderness Lodge because a number of people I knew were going to be there for a big bday celebration. We spent so much time at the parks, that I was a bit upset that I used the extra points to stay there when I didn't get to enjoy the amenities. If I know I am going to be in the parks for most of the time, I look for a hefty value discount or hit up hotwire for a room.

People were lining up @ 9:30 @ the ESPN Club, my Kids are there already and were just leaving, going to be a loong day but tons of fun I'm sure. Loving the Boardwalk view to keep tabs on the goings on. Hoping for a Giants win of course, also hoping no one gets hurt during the game

It is so funny that you say this. I am a big Cubs fan and I spend time at WDW in October every year...but for me and my team, it has ALWAYS been a non issue :) Each year I think about what I would do during my trip...and each year it is unnecessary to even think about contingency plans.
