Where to Live?

Hi All, I just applied for the 2010 spring program, and I'm doing some research on the Living aspect. What complex do former CPs think is best? I'd heard that Vista way is a lot of fun, but also a little shady...what are your thoughts?

When I did the CP program from January to Aug 2009, I stayed at Vista Way from Jan to April and I had a 3 bedroom and my roommates were awesome and I only paid $ 77.00 per week. When I moved in April I went to Chatham Square Apts and I had a 1 bedroom and 1 roommate and I got along with him and I paid a little bit more $ 96.00 and It was better than chatham but Walgreens, Wendys, Bennigans, Cici's Pizza and Chick Fil-a is by Vista Way..

I lived in Chatham from Aug. 2008- May 2009. I had a 1 bedroom apt, so 1 roommate. I loved it. I didnt have to move when I extended my program, so it was the same apt the entire time. I think rent was $92/ week but I felt it was worth it. I never had any problems with noise. I was in building 12, which is kind of near the middle of the complex.

It was about a 10-15 minute walk to Publix & there was a walgreens near the publix. It wasnt hard if I wanted to go to Wendy's or the Walgreens by Vista. I just took one of the busses that stopped at Chatham before Vista & got off at Vista. Almost all of my friends had cars there so it wasnt a big deal if I needed to go to the Walmart or somewhere that the bus didnt go to as often.

The only problem i found was trying to get back to Chatham from Vista. The Animal Kingdom & Downtown Disney busses have at least a 20 minute layover before they leave Vista, so sometimes, you kinda get stuck at Vista for awhile before another bus is heading to Chatham.

Vista is the cheapest, it's actually not that great, but they are remodeling it. I've also heard that there are lots of parties there, moreso than the other complexes, so if you like to party, it's your place, but if you like to sleep, it's not. It's also a good location, very close to Walgreens, Chick-fil-A, Wendy's, and a couple other places.

Chatham is pretty good, about the same as Patterson.

Patterson is where I lived, it's great. It's the most expensive, but I think it's worth it. It was just built, I think my roomie and I were the second to live in our apt. It's quiet as well. I've heard that Patterson apts are larger than Chatham, but I've never been in a 1 BR CS apt to compare.

Both are right next to Mickey's Retreat and also an easy distance walk to Publix and Walgreens. Personally, I had a car so location and bus scheduling didn't bother me that much, but it's something to think about if you are riding the bus.

But my vote goes 150% for Patterson. I looooooooove my PC folks.

#1 Why would there be more partying and drug use in Vista than in the other complexes? Is there less security?

#2 Vista as full kitchens, too.

No, as far as I know all the security is the same, and it's all the same company, so security guards can be working at any of the four complexes on any given night.

I really don't know why Vista is worse than the others, but it is. It's just the others are quieter and security makes an effort to keep them quiet, maybe they don't make as much of an effort at Vista. I've never lived there so I can't say for sure, all I know is from what I've heard from other people.

Then there's the rumor that Playboy did a "Top 5 Places to get laid" list and Vista was on it. I actually looked that up and couldn't find any real evidence of this list, but it wouldn't surprise me all that much.

Sorry to ask a question on someone else's thread, but I didn't want to start a whole new one.

I am hoping to do the CP in the near future. So the 1 bedrooms mean there are two people living there right? Are there like 2 twins beds in a room? How does that work? Thanks, just curious!

Vista does have Club 13, a wireless internet lounge, the program support managers' office, the education office, The Disney Learning center and a large mail room for picking up packages.

They also have the pavillion, in which the swap-shop and parties are held.

Vista has its own stop for the bus.

I just wanted to throw in a good word for Vista Way.

I did 2 college programs. One from August 2007 - January 2008 and one from January 2009 - June 2009. I lived in Vista both times and never had a problem with noise or parties. I lived in 610 the first time which is right next to the clubhouse & that pool and only once got woken up by people blasting music at the pool and that was at noon anyway so it wasn't super early or super late to be playing music. The second time I lived in 1509 and the only thing I heard was the volcano blasting every so often from the mini golf course across the street.

I enjoyed living so close to Wendy's and Walgreens. It was just really convenient. Also, that is the main bus station, so like Tinkrbell said, you can just be sitting in the bus a Vista for like 15 to 20 minutes. Like from downtown Disney, Vista is the first drop off (unless it goes to crossroads lol ). So the bus can arrive at say 1pm and the bus schedule will say it will be at chatham at 1:20, so it won't leave vista until like 1:17 so you will just be sitting there. That is what I liked about vista, the busses would just be waiting there whereas, first at Patterson you have to walk to Chatham to get the bus, and at Chatham it will just pull up and get the people on and leave. At vista, if it is not running late, it will wait there so you have a better chance of catching the bus.

I prefer Chatham myself. I am currently staying here (it's my 4th time here), and I really like it. The apartment is really nice and large.

Correct. Each bedroom will have 2 people. So a 1BR has 2 people, 2BR=4, and so on (up to 8 people in a 4BR). The beds are twin sized.

Way back when, I was in Vista (4010...still remember the room number). It was a two bedroom with a large picture window that looked over the highway towards PI. This was back when PI had fireworks every night...perfect location, and quiet in the back of the complex. No restaurants around the complex at the time, but it was still great...my how times have changed the area.

I believe families can get apts together. I know of a married couple on the CP who had an apartment together, and there was also a mother with two of her daughters and they had an apt together. I suppose you could tell them in advance so they could set it up.

I lived in chatham and patterson... I liked patterson better as if you needed somethign you could call the desk adn they would have longer hours and its more quite. Chatham felt more like a home, where Patterson felt like they cramed so many buildings into one area. Everyone was ontop of another, parking near my building was never an option. Patterson was noisy and the front desk was never there. In both places I lived in a 3 bedroom apartment... While patterson was newer, chatham has the bigger bed room and bathroom layout. In patterson the sink was outside the bathroom adn when my roommate who had to be at work eraly would get up, she would turn on the sink light and it would wake me up. In chatham the sink was in the bathroom so i never knew when my roommate was getting up. CLosets were about the same size.
I would go with Chatham, but thats just my 2cents... They both have their good and bad qualities.
