Where to get "ears"?

Hello to all. New member but long time Disney traveller.
I am taking a couple of friends to WDW in March, neither of whom have been in 25-30 years!!! One of them wants to get a set of "ears" (the famous hat, you know) as soon as we arrive at WDW. Now, not being one to ever really buy ears, I wanted to ask all of you about some possible locations to buy them. I would also like it to be one with her name ('Karen'...pretty common name).

PS: We will be staying at the BW Villas so anything close to that would be great!

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Everywhere you turn will be an opportunity to purchase ears:)

Ears can be found in most shops and on the many carts located around the parks.

Have a great trip!!! And welcome to the boards:sohappy:

You can purchase ears at many different gift shops throughout property. However, they only embroider the names at a few locations. For a nicer stitching with a fee, you can get it done at the Christmas shop at Downtown Disney (I think it's called Disney Days of Christmas, but I'm not sure) or at The Disney/MGM Studios at the gift shop that connects to The Darkroom (again I'm drawing a blank on the name of the shop, but it's part of the strip of shops on the right when you're entering).

In MK, there are a couple locations that will embroider complimentary with the purchase of the hat. This embroidery isn't as nice as at the other locations, but it still looks great IMO. I believe you can get this done at Chapeau on Main Street or at The Hat Shop (not sure if that's the correct name, but it's like a kiosk type stand in Frontierland near the Shooting Gallery) in Frontierland.

These were the locations it was offered at as of my last trip (that I remember). The hats themselves run about $6.00 a piece.

Hope that helps.

Hi... I was at WDW last weekend and picked up a pair of ears on Main Street for a friend of mine. I don't know what pricing is for a kid sized set of ears, but the adult sized hat was priced at $7.50 and was around $8 with tax.

The Chapeau shop does the name stitching thing on the ears as does one of the stands in Tomorrowland as we had a pair of ears done for a friend of mine there. In addition, one of the stores in MGM does this as well, but I Am not sure of the name. Not everyplace that sells the ears does the personalization though. Have fun!!! Belle

The easiest place to get the "standard" ears personalized, in my opinion, is at the hat shop on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom (on the right hand side) They have several sewing machines going at once. Some of the other "stands" only have one person that can operate the machine, and if they are on a break, you're out of luck.

Thanks guys! :)

Not really being a hat wearer, I never paid attention to where you could get ears, especially embroidered ones. My friend, however, is adamant about getting a set once we arrive ASAP.
Additional thought: if you buy a set in one place, can you have a name put on later at a different location (albeit for a price, I'm sure)?

My uinderstanding is that if yu buy it and then bring it to the Chapeau shop in MK or the place in MGM (sorry stilll dont remember the name!!) they will put on the name free!!! Belle

Do they need to be personalized? If you're going to you resort first thing, I am sure they sell ears at the Screen Door General Store at Boardwalk. After you check in, walk down the stairs to the board walk. It's like the first shop on the left.

If you decide to buy the hat and bring it to one of the other locations for embroidery, make sure you hold onto the receipt, they may ask to see it.

The name of the shop in MGM that does the embroidery is the Five & Dime and is located on the right hand side when walking up Hollywood Blvd. I can't recall seeing them selling hats there (lots of towels), but I couldn't see why you wouldn't be able to bring one there to have it done. If they don't sell it there, I'm sure the main shop directly across the street should have them.

The shop in Frontierland, when I was in the park in December, I noticed it was closed, but in July it was open. Not sure, but maybe this is one of those shops that opens according to how crowded the park is on a given day.

I stayed at the Boardwalk this past June, and I don't remember seeing the ear hats in the General Store, but I could be wrong.

The closest place to the boardwalk to get the ears, would probably be the World Traveler store, at the International Gateway. I'm pretty sure they have them there, and can also embroider them. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, of course.

Unfortunately, the World Traveler store doesn't do embroidery. They may sell the hats, but there are only a select number of places that are set up to do embroidery. The ones that I know of are: Disney Days of Christmas in the Marketplace; 5&10 in MGM; Chapeau (next to the candy store on Main Street), Merchant of Venus (or it's the one next to it by SGE, always confuse the two) in Tomorrowland and one in Frontierland (which I think is not open regularly) in MK.

Ahh, good old inflation. :brick:

The prices have gone up in the past couple of years. Last time I bought them was in fall 2002.

I thought the tomorrowland stand closed and was now a DVC advertisement stand. Is there another place that embroiders them in tomorrowland?
