Hi everyone!! So I am taking my sister for her first Disney Trip (she is 22 and I am 27) I would love to take her somewhere to eat that is not at a park on our First Day, but I have no clue where! DH and I always eat at Fulton's on our first night there - so its special for he and I, so I want somewhere special for just her and I! What can you recommend?! We aren't the pickiest of eaters so anything works!
TIA!!!

My favorite out of park restaurant is at Wilderness Lodge - Whispering Canyon Cafe. You have to make reservations for it. But, the BBQ there is seriously amazing.

There are so many choices!

For quality food, I vote for Artist Pointm Flying Fish or Citricos.

For fun and lots of food, I like 'Ohana, Boma or Whispering Canyon.

For a fun sisters-only night out, I would suggest bluezoo. They easily have the best bar on property, what with their very knowledgeable staff, interesting menu, and sophisticated and sexy ambiance. The restaurant proper is a bit more subdued, but still fun and adult. They do a great job with their seafood offerings, and one can easily make the argument that it's the best seafood restaurant within the Disney bubble. Really, any of the Swan/Dolphin signatures would be a good choice, but bluezoo would be my pick of the three for you two (Il Mulino being a respectable second; I love Shula's, but you really have to be in the mood for steak and football decor).

If you're looking for something a bit more casual, I would recommend Sanaa for a restaurant, and the Cabana Bar for a lounge. The former is my "bang for your buck" pick, since it's a beautiful restaurant with delicious food at good-for-Disney prices. It's really close to signature, but without any fussiness. The latter is the partially outdoor pool bar at the Dolphin. They have a limited, but very good, food menu, and a fantastic drink menu. Go and get a Scorpion Bowl of Dark and Stormy. It will be the only drink you need for the entire night, and it's downright affordable for the amount you get.

I don't think the Swan/Dolphin options get nearly enough play on here, in general, but in your case and situation, I can't think of a better option.

I'd second Boma, mainly because the food and the resort are both so extraordinary. Get there early and/or hang out late to seethe animals out on the savannah, take in the artifacts and artwork in the lobby.

Whispering Canyon Cafe is fun, but it is very noisy, at time chaotic. If this is her first Disney Trip and she's not prepared for that decibel level it could be the sort of restaurant that taints her perception of WDW in general for the worse. I don't know how psyched she is for the trip, getting all steeped in the "Disney magic," or if this is a "whatever you want, honey" kind of trip. If it's the latter, definitely Boma. It's simultaneously un-Disneylike and the sort of restaurant few places besides Disney could pull off.

Hmmmm. My DD29 loves Flying Fish over at the BW if only for the bread alone, and it is a fav of mine too. When it has just been her and I, we have dined at the bar and at the counter in front of the grill where you can watch the cooks in action. The latter seating works better on chilly nights though.
If y'all like ethnic food Boma or Sanaa are amazing as other posters have recommended.
And for evening character dining with a decent variety and quality of food, I agree 1900 Park Fare is fun.
One of my favorites is OHANA if you can get a reservation. I eat so many wings and noodles and potstickers, by the time the meat starts arriving I am full. But I always have room for the bread pudding.
And finally, if you just want to eat light and have a few cocktails, then go to Crew's Cup Lounge at the YC and order the Buttermilk fried rock shrimp. That is a really really good.

Some of my favorite spot are:

__Special Spots__

BlueZoo
Kona Cafe/Island
Sanaa
Wave

__Low Key__

Crew's Cup
Grand Floridian Cafe
Kimonos
Turf Club

Wave, I haven't done but really want to. It looks like a neat venue when I walked by it a couple of times in March. I think the Wave for dinner would be cool, then go out on the 4th floor veranda with a cocktail and watch the fireworks. Ride the monorail around a couple of times too. I love riding the monorail, the boats and the train. I am so glad you don't need FP's for them.

I'm not really a fan of buffets, but Boma was an awesome place for dinner. Everything was delicious. Especially the soups.

Plus, it is a great excuse to poke around the AKL, which is just a beautiful resort. I'm booking a table at Sanaa next time so I can go back. Also because I have heard rave reviews about that place and have to try it now.

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
The re jigged menu at HoB isnt too shabby for chain food. But Sannaa was different, in a good way, Flying Fish was one of the best meals we had on our last visit, better than Fultons.

I don't know you and your sister, but I know my sisters at that age would want to go out for some margaritas, and Paradiso 57 is the best place for that IMHO. They have some absolutely gigantic margaritas, ice cold beer, really good nachos, and a table outside by the lake a great atmosphere for kicking back, relaxing, and doing a little people watching as well.

Where is this lovely place, if you don't mind me asking? :)

Edit: never mind... I just found it on Google at DTD!
