Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Breakfast is good anytime of day or night.*

*You'll notice I didn't say anytime of morning. ;)

You know, breakfast food is welcomed as a menu option by so many people; yet, most restaurants cut it off the menu by 11 AM. But I like "breakfast food" at dinner. Actually, the thought of bacon, eggs, toast, home fries, etc. are way too much for me, first thing in the morning--but if I find a restaurant that serves it all day--I'm in!!

There's a restaurant near us that serves breakfast all day (along with a full menu of regular lunch and dinner selections). I always see people ordering breakfast at night in there, so I'm not the only one! ;)

We took a walk around the neighborhood here last night - still not quite adjusted to the time difference, so we weren't really hungry for dinner, having eaten lunch around 3 local time. It's definitely lively around here at night, and we're definitely old! :joyfull: Anyway, one of the sushi places had a sign out front for Dole Whips, so DH had a pineapple one and I had a pineapple-mango twist. There's a breakfast place next door to us (Cora's) that gets great reviews for breakfast so we'll be heading over there once DH wakes up, then we check out of here and taxi over to the cruise ship! We met a family from Texas on the train yesterday (4 sisters and their spouses) so we're hoping to meet up with them again.

I may have mentioned that this hotel is "vintage". Quirky might be a better word actually. Our room has a window-mounted air conditioner, which would be fine except for the fact that due to the curtain placement, one has to choose between privacy or comfort. We had neon lights from the Chinese restaurant across the street lighting our room all night, but at least we were cool! The bathroom is tinier than ours at home, which is pretty small - I've seen campers with more space. The shower is circular (As in "Beam me up Scotty") with no shelves or spaces to put your soap or shampoo down while you wash. But the best feature is the bathroom window (about 4 inches wide) which continues through to the bathroom in the next room over :hilarious:. From the outside it looks like a rectangle with a capital I through the middle. It served the purpose for the night though , so life is good!

The funny thing about reading is that it is an acquired taste, I think. I have a 15 year old grandson that I do a lot of things with. We play golf, I take him to batting practice, go to just about all his basketball and baseball games. The boy is smart as hell, and picked up on my families skill at sarcasm. In other words, I love the boy, but, he is completely tunnel visioned. He remembers every name of every player in the NBA, NFL, and his favorite Baseball teams. But doesn't want to expand his vision to things other then sports.

His mother spends every single moment she has, which is limited, with her head stuck in a book. He won't read anything more complex then those written for a 10 year old. I have talked to him, I don't remember how many times, that if he wants to expand his world and his knowledge I would recommend reading more. He just says it's all boring. I can relate to that. I cannot tell you how many James Bond Novels I used for book reports through most of my high school years.

My father used to belong to one of those book clubs so popular in the 60's. One of the books he had ordered, when I was a junior in high school, was one titled, "Wind From The Carolina's" by Robert Wilder. It's not even in print anymore and was never a big seller, but, for some reason that I cannot explain, I started to read it. I must have been very bored that day. For the first time ever, I was able to put myself in the scenes. It was a semi-historical novel about a family that lived in So. Carolina during the Revolutionary War. They were strong British supporters. Long story short, he was very wealthy and had his entire plantation, mansion and all, packed up and shipped to Great Exuma Island in the Bahamas. The novel covers five generations of the family and the trials and tribulations that they faced and eventually, generations later, ended up back in So. Carolina.

For the first time ever, I was able to mentally picture the story, put myself in it as an outside observer, and couldn't put it down. I had finally learned how to read a novel. I have read that book so many times that I had to do an extensive search on eBay to find another copy, my original had started to fall apart. I had to learn what my daughter just took to instantly, but, it opened up a whole new world for me. I have my favorites now, mostly 'who done it's' and 'biographies', but, I still read everyday. I wish I could find a way to get him to try a different way of reading, but, I suppose there is still time, he will be a Sophomore this year. He has another year to get to the point of being as great as his Grandfather! ;):joyfull:
So much depends on finding the book you love that draws you in. I am dyslexic, so I really didn't like reading in school. It took so long and was so hard to understand. Moby Dick...that book was the most BORING book ever and I had to read it my junior year. HATED it, and I really didn't want to read ANYTHING because of it. But once I read Harry Potter when I moved over here, I became a pretty voracious reader. It was like a gateway book. Now I'll read just about anything I can get my hands on. (maybe not Moby Dick) I don't like erotica, and I'm not a horror girl, but give me biographies, historical fiction, romance, fantasy, non-fiction...I'm not really picky.

Is it this Cora's?

They're a chain that grew like crazy about a decade ago, and has been contracting almost as fast. Ours closed down twice (under two separate franchisees) and now it's an all you can eat sushi place - which for me is zero bites!

We went numerous times when ours first opened, but the quality and quantity of food did not justify the price.

I'll bet the pineapple mango Dole Whip was delicious! I would just have that again for brekkie. ;)

That's the place. If you go before 8 the prices are quite reasonable. I had a 2 eggs, bacon and 2 large blueberry pancakes and unlimited coffee for $6.95

We went out for coffee/breakfast with our friends Dianne and John today. Too early for me to eat.
The place that we go to sells this brilliant concoction - a latte milkshake! It's coffee. It's a milkshake. It's delicious!

Dianne is doing her first ever solo Disney trip this November. They would like us to book two bounceback rooms if we can for next year. They are such a fun Disney couple. I would love to share a vacation with them. They were also part of our NYC trip six years ago, so I know we travel well together.

No food pics, but I love this lovely little stream that runs behind our coffee place.
