If you want to see some interesting and incredible stone markers, if you're ever in Vermont go to Barre, (appropriately named) Vermont. There is the famous Hope Cemetery there with some of the most spectacular head stones you can imagine. Being a center for granite at one time, many Italian (and other) stone carvers moved to Barre to ply their trade. They created their own head stones as well as hundreds of others and the place is open for people to just wander around and look at, no admission. Mind boggling sculptures.
