Doctor at the ER prescribed 50mg of Prednisone - 1x/day for 5 days plus the first dose they gave me at the hospital.

At the pharmacy now, waiting for the scrip.

Yes, it's hives. Yes, it's a bad case. Yes, it's an allergic reaction to something. And yes, it will be completely 100% gone long before we leave for WDW.

Keep taking the Benadryl; stop the hydrocortisone cream. Calamine lotion and ice packs are fine.

The prednisone will make me squirrelly. So that sounds like fun.
I've been on prednisone for the better part of two years. The short term side effects are highly variable. Some people are highly put out by those side effects, while others experience virtually nothing. I'll give one bit of unsolicited advice -- take the prednisone in the morning. It tends to cause you to be on edge, which, if it happens at night, can stop you from getting a decent night's (or any) sleep.

She doesn't sleep anyway! :hilarious:

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

Thank you for the advice. I am prone to be squirrelly on medication.

Last year I had to take double dose Advil Cold & Sinus for 36 hours prior to leaving for WDW (due to a fluid build up in my ear caused by my sinuses) and I was literally on my hands and knees in my Buffalo hotel bathroom counting 1" x 1" tiles.

Today's dose was given at the hospital @ 2:00. Good thing 3:00 a.m. is my regular bed time.

I sleep. Just not at night.
I'd be a perfect night shift worker.

Or vampire.

"Squirrelly" is not listed as a potential side effect, nor have any of the others I've talked to (yes, I've talked to many) described that one!

Irritability. Anxiety. Sleeplessness. Itching. Restlessness. Ravenous hunger. Maybe even some dizziness. High blood pressure. Those are all pretty common.

Long-term side effects, though, are way worse.

Squirrelly was the doctor's term.
Maybe it's Canadian, like "cheque" and "neighbour", and the recently discovered "KD". :hilarious:

It's easy. I post right up until 3:00 a.m.; then again from 6:30-7:30; and then not again until 11:30, when everybody wishes me a winky-face "good morning".
I never log in until noon or 1, so I always wonder if everyone thinks that's when I wake up. I usually wake up between 10 and 11, then lay in bed a while and go through social media on my phone. Then I go shower, read a daily column on packers.com, and catch-up here.

Heck. That's 7.5 hours of sleep a night/morning. I'd love to get that consistently.
Oh just because I'm in bed does NOT mean I am sleeping. I play hours of mental "Word Whomp", and the rhyming game, and complicated multiplication questions.

Sometimes I count Hubby's snores in between snorts and grunts. Sometimes I plot my defence argument for when I stand trial for smothering him. Sometimes I play a grade school French counting game called "Pamplemousse". Sometimes I totally redesign and redecorate my house, in my head.

Sleep? Not so much.

I believe anxiety + restlessness = squirrelly

Ahhh yes - ravenous hunger. I remember that one as well.
