Parental units fridge is older than my boys, the one in their basement older than both combined and then some. Our dumb dryer just a few years younger than the boys. Dh still has his "boom box" from high school, our dumb electric roaster about 15 years old maybe older, manual apple peeler about 20 years old, just change the blade every few years, I now have one for each kid:angelic:

All good points. Maybe this isn’t the case at all of them but the one closest to me has a ginormous conveyer belt that makes at least the glazed doughnuts fresh. And even when they’re not technically fresh they still taste higher quality to me.
That is one of the calling cards for a Krispy Kreme store. They have spaced out store locations because, as you might imagine, startup of a store with that conveyer belt and windows to watch them being made is a pretty large investment. I have only seen the glazed done there myself but in 15 years I have only been to that store maybe three times. That store in Raleigh is the place where all those kiosk grocery store items are produced for our area. Sort of like miniature factories.

It is without a doubt the place to go if you want warm, out of the fryer donuts. But it is hard to know just how fresh the store bought ones are. Anyway, the flavor of them is OK, but I hate glazed donuts and the sticky fingers that they produce. Just a personal whim but why I have never been that impressed. Fact is, I have only been to a Dunkin once in all those years as well. It is a sugar high that my body can do without.

I have an example of that and this was about 50 years ago, in both cases. When we had a house built around 1976, I bought a new "brand name" refrigerator. It lasted only two years and as I was looking for a new different brand one, my parents where buying new appliances for their kitchen. I got their 12 year old "coppertone", as style would have it, Kenmore to replace the piece of junk I had purchased. It was still going strong until we sold our home and we left it behind still working fine at 41 years old. The coppertone made it quite dated, style wise by then.

I had also purchased a bottom of the line, upright Kenmore** freezer in 1972. The first couple of years it had to reside in an uninsulated metal shed just outside our mobile home. It followed us for the next 29 years until we sold the house and left it there for the new buyers. At that time it was still purring along like new and had never needed any repair.

I will admit though that to my experience it was about that time that household appliances started to be engineered to have planned obsolescence.
I swear that without SEARS and their Kenmore brand I don't think I would have survived those first few years of marriage and family building. Everywhere you looked in my locations you would see the name Kenmore and every tool I owned was labeled Craftsman. For many years I only had two credit cards, Sears and Mobil. That was all I needed.

We had a Krispy Kreme open up in 2000 about 10 mins. down the road from our old home. It was all the rage at first, until it wasn’t anymore, shortly thereafter. We took our (then young) kids there once and never went back.
It wasn’t bad, it just didn’t wow us enough to ever warrant a craved return visit. There are only 2 locations in the whole Austin area.
They just never really caught on here, as there are plenty of other places near us to get good donuts (along with the awesome Round Rock Donuts), as well as other baked goods, such as kolaches.
Also, we had a single location mom and pop-type donut/bake shop within walking distance of our old home, as well as similar within walking distance of our new home…!!!!! :hungry: :hilarious:

This afternoon I stopped by a local shop called Collectors Crossroads. The name pretty much sums up their product. When I walked in my jaw dropped…!!!!! 😲 The sheer size and amount of collectibles in the place is just nutso…!!!!! 🤪

Some examples…!!! :)

This fun Star Wars-related piece, that I’m not sure was an original or a print, and never got a price on…

A 3 ft. tall Terminator big fig for 3K…

A 3 ft. tall Predator big fig for 5K…

An 18” tall Star Wars big fig for 2K…

Collectible/antique firearms…

IMG_2921.jpeg

Militaria, including from WWII, samurai swords and other military artifacts, as well as other general historical pieces…

IMG_2926.jpegIMG_2930.jpegIMG_2934.jpeg

Vampire hunter kits (yes, you read that correctly) from around 1900…the tag for the one on the right shows a price of 10K…

IMG_2943.jpeg

And, a baseball bat prop from the movie “Inglorious Basterds” (yes, they misspelled the movie title on purpose), signed by the producer, director and 6 cast members, including Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt, for 20K…

IMG_2945.jpeg

My pics barely scratch the surface of it all…
Comic books, vinyl records, tons of sports and music memorabilia (including a guitar signed by Keith Richards for 32K), etc., etc., etc.
In the 1+ hour I was there I didn’t see it all, but decided to split before I dropped some serious coin and got myself in a bit of trouble…!!!!! :cautious:😁:hilarious:;):)

Today is Matthew’s 33rd birthday…!!!!!!! :joyfull:🎂🥳
For those that do not know, Matthew is our middle child (between oldest daughter Megan and youngest daughter Sarah).
He was born via c-section, 3 months early and in utero growth retarded, due to an umbilical issue. His birth weight was 1 lb. 4 oz., and he went to as low as 1 lb. 2 oz. near the beginning of his 4.5-month NICU stay. He also developed premature retinopathy while in the NICU and had to have an eye operation to save as much of his vision as they could, which extended his stay.
Shortly after we brought him home, he developed an RSV infection and ended up back in the NICU for 12 more days, before we finally brought him home to stay.
After we were finally able to bring him home, he was on a heart/apnea monitor for the next year, during the night. We also had oxygen on hand. The monitor had to be taken in once a month to be recalibrated as he grew, because his heart rate and breathing slowed, as is normal. We didn’t get much sleep towards the approach of each recalibration period because of the alarm sounding so often during the night. Sure, we could have simply shut the alarm off, but we knew we could never live with ourselves if that was the one time something went terribly wrong. I/we could write a book about his life, especially the first several years…what a ride, but beyond worth it.

He is on the autism spectrum and is legally blind. Although his glasses lenses are very thick, the legally blind aspect mostly has to do with his peripheral vision, due to the premature retinopathy. He sees more than well enough to not need a cane, or such.
He worked at a local Salvation Army store for 3 years, and has now been at a local Goodwill store for 5 years, for which he recently received a certificate and a pin, and was also chosen Employee of the Month…again…also coming with another pin.
He’s caring, empathetic, funny, silly, thoughtful………..
There aren’t enough words to show how proud we are of him…!!!!!

Below are 2 pics of him in the NICU on the day he was born (notice the Bic pen in the 2nd pic for size reference), and 2 pics with him from our WDW family trip last summer…!!! :)
