Parental units fridge is older than my boys, the one in their basement older than both combined and then some. Our dumb dryer just a few years younger than the boys. Dh still has his "boom box" from high school, our dumb electric roaster about 15 years old maybe older, manual apple peeler about 20 years old, just change the blade every few years, I now have one for each kid
My parents had a stove that worked for almost 50 years, and that was with a family of 6! (Although, we 4 kids moved out by our early 20s.)

That is one of the calling cards for a Krispy Kreme store. They have spaced out store locations because, as you might imagine, startup of a store with that conveyer belt and windows to watch them being made is a pretty large investment. I have only seen the glazed done there myself but in 15 years I have only been to that store maybe three times. That store in Raleigh is the place where all those kiosk grocery store items are produced for our area. Sort of like miniature factories.
I have an example of that and this was about 50 years ago, in both cases. When we had a house built around 1976, I bought a new "brand name" refrigerator. It lasted only two years and as I was looking for a new different brand one, my parents where buying new appliances for their kitchen. I got their 12 year old "coppertone", as style would have it, Kenmore to replace the piece of junk I had purchased. It was still going strong until we sold our home and we left it behind still working fine at 41 years old. Love, love, love.Today is Matthew’s 33rd birthday…!!!!!!!
For those that do not know, Matthew is our middle child (between oldest daughter Megan and youngest daughter Sarah).
He was born via c-section, 3 months early and in utero growth retarded, due to an umbilical issue. His birth weight was 1 lb. 4 oz., and he went to as low as 1 lb. 2 oz. near the beginning of his 4.5-month NICU stay. He also developed premature retinopathy while in the NICU and had to have an eye operation to save as much of his vision as they could, which extended his stay.
Shortly after we brought him home, he developed an RSV infection and ended up back in the NICU for 12 more days, before we finally brought him home to stay.
After we were finally able to bring him home, he was on a heart/apnea monitor for the next year, during the night. We also had oxygen on hand. The monitor had to be taken in once a month to be recalibrated as he grew, because his heart rate and breathing slowed, as is normal. We didn’t get much sleep towards the approach of each recalibration period because of the alarm sounding so often during the night. Sure, we could have simply shut the alarm off, but we knew we could never live with ourselves if that was the one time something went terribly wrong. I/we could write a book about his life, especially the first several years…what a ride, but beyond worth it.
He is on the autism spectrum and is legally blind. Although his glasses lenses are very thick, the legally blind aspect mostly has to do with his peripheral vision, due to the premature retinopathy. He sees more than well enough to not need a cane, or such.
He worked at a local Salvation Army store for 3 years, and has now been at a local Goodwill store for 5 years, for which he recently received a certificate and a pin, and was also chosen Employee of the Month…again…also coming with another pin.
He’s caring, empathetic, funny, silly, thoughtful………..
