Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

I start work at 11:00, but I made sure to get here early so that everything I need to do to open my office for the day was done in plenty of time. I tuned into CBC because they carry the ceremonies from the National War Memorial in Ottawa.

For those interested in how we observe Remembrance Day here, this was the program this morning ....

The Prime Minister was already there when I tuned in.

The National Silver Cross Mother arrives in a limo, and is escorted to the dais where the PM stands.
The Governor General Mary Simon arrives next. She is the King's representative in Canada, and many such ceremonies (including the opening of Parliament) cannot start until she (or he) is present.
She then stands alone on a slightly raised step and salutes during the playing of the Viceregal Salute (kind of God Save the King/O Canada mashup).
The GG then walks over to greet the Silver Cross Mother and the PM and other people (cadets, active military, retired military), before they all walk over together to stand for the Ottawa Children's Choir performing of O Canada.

Now the formal stuff:
- Last Post (bugle)
21 gun salute starts
- 2 minute moment of silence
- Piper's Lament (bagpipes)
4 CF-18's fly overhead
- The Rouse (bugle)
21 gun salute continues
- Act of Remembrance (poem read in three languages)
(Parade stands at ease)
- Numerous prayers and songs
- Laying of the wreaths

It is very formal, very dignified, and a truly beautiful ceremony every year. The same service, on a much smaller scale, is carried out in hundreds of towns and cities coast to coast.

Ha - I was right! The Vice-Regal Salute is a musical arrangement of the first six bars of 'God Save The King' and a short version (the first four bars and the last four bars) of 'O Canada'. It is played as the musical salute to the Governor General of Canada and the Lieutenant-Governors of Canadian provinces.

Apparently Australia has a similar composition, but with their anthem of course. I'm not sure about other Commonwealth nations.

no, who sings it? ;) JK. growing up we didn't have a lot of money so hunting and fishing helped supplement the grocery bill
I can respect that. Hunting for sport isn’t my thing though.

Ski’s girlfriend is Indigenous, and thereby exempt from the constraints of hunting or fishing seasons - if it’s for food, or social/ceremonial purposes. (She doesn’t, but she could.)
