Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

How much of a hassle is Customs coming and going? Which way is easier?

I've only been through customs once (twice) and it was in the wilderness so it was pretty easy as we only had backpacks and canoes on us.. The main thing I remember is having to pay because we were using a Canadian National Forest (Provincial Park) so camping permits and fishing license had to be paid at customs.
It's a breeze getting in to the States - where are you going? What is the purpose of your visit?

Going back is still pretty easy, but you have to declare all your purchases, especially alcohol and tobacco. I find it's a cakewalk if I have my hotel receipt and all purchase receipts tallied and at the ready. Except for once, they've never needed anything other than our passports.

Do you have to pay taxes on stuff you bought in US to Canada? I think we might have had this convo before, but I don't remember the answers!

No duty exemptions for day trips technically, but I've had them waive off purchases up to $150.

For trips 24-48 hours:

We usually bring back 2 cases of Yeungling, and no tobacco. We've often hit the $800 per person exemption, but given the current exchange rate, we don't plan on doing much shopping this year.

We're here because we come every year. It's nice to get away, just the two of us - we shop a bit, eat one fancy meal (tonight) and then hit either the Outback, Famous Dave's or Olive Garden the other night; none of which are available in Canada. We'll catch a flick, go to Dave & Buster's, and stock up on pharmaceuticals and food products not available at home.

Not a sexy get-away by any means, but something we look forward to.

You should try Hawaii.

Too bad about the tendinitis flaring up in your arm, but hopefully the lady you helped appreciated your efforts. Did you eat at all in the parks at DLP? I'd be interested if you had the same opinion about the food as I did.
Not even so much as a Merci came from her. That's OK, at least I didn't have blood on my shoes and I am very good at giving myself credit for being a Samaritan.

As for food, I had lunch at a quick service place in Disneyland and dinner at that big Food Court in the studios. I don't even remember what I had so it must not have given me any reason to think it was extraordinary. (Can't even remember the names of the places) However, to be honest, I am never really that excited about food even though I have consumed way more then my share of it. I've almost never met up with a food item that I didn't like (except liver).

I thought the quick service food in DLP was awful and not too memorable. The table service we had was good though. And Yes, liver is awful.

Hubby's calamari. :hungover:

Sausage bread.

Close up.

Our server mistakenly thought I would be partaking in that gross squid nonsense. Ummmm ... NOOOOO!

No worries, I used the plate for my sausage bread.
(The two end pieces and two middle pieces for me. Mike only got three pieces because he had all that lovely calamari for himself.)

Salads:

Mike's. Some kind of "chopped salad". I don't know what it was, but I didn't care for the little taste I had.

More of the same.

My salad. It was very sweet, but lovely. Apples, dried cherries, whole pecans, and a maple vinaigrette - appropriately called The Vermont.

Entrees:

Hubby had the Salvatore's trio - fillet, chicken piccata with lemon caper sauce, and their divine tortellini.

8 oz. (yeah right, that was seriously twice that), slightly over-done prime rib, with horseradish cream aoli. Clearly I shared.

After 30 years, this still drives Mike nuts.

Once I am done eating, I cannot have the plates/dishes remain in front of me. I push them clear to the other side of the table. Son #2 does the exact same thing.
