Partly sunny & warm here as well. They were calling for rain here all weekend, but so far it has been nice.

Found out some really good news today. One of my old friends from high school who runs a construction company had fallen 20 ft & broken his back last Dec. For awhile, doctors did not think he would ever walk again. Well...as it turns out, he is recovering so well that by Spring, he will not only be on his feet fully, but will be able to go back to work, jog, hike, like nothing ever happened. We're already planning a celebratory hike up to the top of Mt. LeConte next May when he & his wife come up for a visit. Needless to say, he is beyond ecstatic with how progress is going, and we are all very happy for him! Quite a drastic change from being told only a few months ago that walking may never again be an option to walking by this Oct... to....get ready to go back to work & live your life by springtime!

So we spent a few hours at Myakka State Park today. There's a bridge where you first come in where we always see lots of gators. Today - not so much....

but we did see a mother manatee with her baby. They only surfaced for a second or 2, so the pictures aren't that exciting:

We did a couple of small trails and saw a lot of birds:

LOVE the pictures, @Nemo14 !

Just noticed this gator hiding out in your bird section of pics. Did you see him hiding, or did he secretly photobomb that great heron? :D

One thing they mentioned to us is the reason why the gators aren't hanging around in their usual places is that this area has had a tremendous amount of rain lately, so the gators have a lot more places to explore. There have been several reports of gators on some of the trails and campsites - hence we stuck with some smaller trails.

You definitely don't want alligators hanging around campsites. Granted, they are respectful during quiet hours, but wow, their decorations are something tacky.

Speaking of such things, we drove through downtown Bradenton last night and the streets were all decorated with big gold snowflakes. I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a snowflake, Christmas or otherwise, here in a very long time. Couldn't they have found a more suitable theme, like bells or poinsettias or something? It's just all surreal, driving around in 90+ degree heat seeing snowflakes!

Yeah this is unusual for a lot of us to still be this warm in early Nov. Definitely not Christmassy yet, but that will change....
